If Reinhart wants $6 mil per on a long-term contract, he is going to price himself out of town. I would say Max he is $5 mil per season player... and I would still deal him for the right return.

Look inside the numbers of Larkin, Reinhart and Nylander and you will see that they all have identical offensive productions.
-Garf

You say this and then you post their stats. Did you even look at them, or just look at total points in their careers?

Nylander has 5 fewer points than the both of them but has played 64 fewer games than Samson and 57 fewer than Larkin.

"Identical offensive productions". Good one, Garf.

Now, now ... Garth wrote "GM Dylan Larkin Ken Holland," which isn't wrong. He just goes by Ken Holland because his full name is so long and to avoid confusion at work. After all, he can't have this happening all the time:

1. Larkin plays C Sam is RW
2. Larkin has more leverage than Sam
3. Larkin is their ONLY C (refer back to #2)

I think Reino is great, but it would be a huge overpayment if we paid him this. DET doesn't have to worry about working around Mitts/Dahlin/Okposo/Eichel and probably Skinner.

I'll be thrilled if we can sign him to less than 5 but they shouldn't go any higher than 5.5. If that's not good enough for him and his agent then the only choice is a bridge.

Yea but what does a guy get that most of his production comes in the last 3 months before his contract is up. I say 5.5M for 3 years or let him walk

YEAH I doubt the will either...tho a trade with Buffalo for Risto would be a good move for the Leafs. You won’t get much better than that in trade and he’s still young, on a good deal and improves the defence while as good as Willy is, he’s sorta expendable , considering the Leafs forward depth.

Ristolainen improves no one's defense. He's awful defensively. Not the answer for the Leafs

Anywho, you guys already have the better Nylander.

Awful is a bit Harsh, tho he struggled last year. The idea of trading Nylander for a defender isn’t very popular I take it ?
Is there a defender out there you think might be available in a trade? And for whom?

"Reinhart and Nylander are smelling ear to ear at Larkin’s $6.1M AAV." - I wonder what that sensation is like, being able to smell through one's ears. 'Sports Journalist' #oxymoron

If Nylander signs the deal I’d be happy with that. Its a number that they can work around. 6-7 is fine, Marleau is off the books in two years so that makes up for that.

I don't think anyone is against trading Nylander for the right defender. The problem is Ristolainen is not the right defender. You want to say awful is harsh, that's fine, but the reality is he is below average to very bad in his own end. Where does he play on the leafs defense? He isn't better then Rielly, and I don't think he is better then Gardiner either. At the same time, unless on the PP, or late in the game when down a goal, playing any combination of these 3 at the same time is asking for trouble. So were does he fit?

I guess if they trade Gardiner, he can replace him, but then we would be wasting are biggest trading chip to do nothing but move sideways, because if Nylander can't bring the top 4 D the leafs need, I doubt Gardiner will either. Gardiner probably brings back a forward worse then Nylander.

"Gardiner is OUR biggest trading chip" not "are", proofread for goodness sake. Sorry, I thought this blog was "learning to proofread 101". Just kidding around. I am pretty sure Buffalo is just fine hanging on to Risto, If he is at best, slotted a 3-4 D-man, he will be a beast. I love how everybody loves to bash a player and comment how bad he is, while at the same time trying to come up with a trade offer to acquire him. He is a young player, who has logged a ridiculous amount of ice time, on a bad team with poor depth. The hope is that Dahlin is the #1 guy every team wants and if he is, that gives Risto less minutes and keep him fresher. Then we will see the true value of Risto.
