That's a lot commitment in money&years... good luck with that one. At least its a winners (czech-)surname, Tomáš Dvořák was a world-class decathlonist...

There was literally no reason to sign him right now. Chayka had nothing better to do?

The money is not bad at all. Being locked up for six years stings, but it’s through his peak years so it’s not that bad.

What in James eyes could the best GM in hockey do to make it a bad move?

He could trade for lucic, sign Orpik, or whoever and jimmy would slurp all over him.

Whatever it takes for blog hits, that’s what Tanner is prepared to do.

Overall this is a little too much money and a lot too much time for a generally unproven forward. Yes he has the potential sticker on him, but proven to hit 15 goals in two years does not scream value at 4.5 per year

I wonder how many people who think this is a bad deal think the Elias Lindholm one is a good one?

If he comes close to earning that money the six yrs are a huge advatage, as they are his prime years .

Could have gotten him cheaper for less lerm but then bridge contracts are generally pretty dumb of you think the player is good at all.

You clearly have no understanding of how the salary cap works

Kadri signed for 4.5 mil for six years after 35 and 45 point seasons...as a 24 year old.

Dvorak is 22 and sighed a contract when the cap has grown 10 million since Kadri signed. There is nothing wrong with this deal. They chose to take a bit of a risk in order to have a steal contract...much like Kadri

They're already way over, but don't let facts stand in your way.

I’m more like we have a better understanding of it than you do, but this is not a d!cx measuring contest.

Unless if you were describing the need for the yotes to reach the salary cap floor as the above poster described, It seems like this is a miss use of salary cap and I think my assessment stands.

Do you honestly believe this is fair market value for a 15 goal scorer?I’m sure you have already hand-picked and shine some nice stat to back up your argument, so let’s hear it

Marian Hossa 5.25 million
Dave Bolland 5.5 million

Honestly, with how much players are asking nowadays, if he was a FA in 2 yrs he prob could ask for 6.

This could actually be a great deal.

COULD being the key factor. Back to back 15 goal seasons isn't impressive thus far. Ya if he can be a perennial 25+ goal scorer then its a good deal. Does he play any specialty roles? PK??

If you understood the cap - let alone as much as me (can't honestly believe you wrote that haha) - then you would know that 'market value' has nothing to do with it, at least not directly.

The Coyotes are signing him 1 year earlier than they have to. The reason is that they commit more than he currently deserves in order to avoid paying him more if he breaks out this season.

They could easily have signed him to a 'market value' deal, but it would be a short team deal that carries the risk that if he scores 30 goals, he's now super expensive.

In a salary cap league, it's key that you get players locked into to contract that provide good value. If, in 2 years, a 24 year Christian Dvorak scores 30 goals, then this deal is an absolute steal.

It's all about risk vs reward, not about market value.

Also, the Coyotes are way beyond the Cap floor, even without this deal they're already approaching 60 million for NEXT season.

His 5v5 goal scoring is really, really good for a second year player.

Christian Dvorak had 25 5v5 goals across his first 2 years, 0.76 5v5 g/60.

Here are NHL forwards who scored goals at a comparable rate at 5v5 the past 2 years:

Panarin 0.75 g/60
Seguin 0.75 g/60
Pavelski 0.76 g/60
Horvat 0.76 g/60
Hornqvist 0.76 g/60
Little 0.76 g/60

Considering all those goals are scored at even strength, its actually extremely impressive.

Yeah. Why bridge until they are 25, putting up much better numbers when you can sign them until 28-29 when they might command the same because of peak performance averaging out.

Hes a real good PK guy. over 150min of pk time. faceoffs greatly improved since last season its just over 51%. he plays a soild game. fast. battles infront of the net. and really doesnt take stupid calls. 22pmin last year. so i think it makes it worth the gamble. fairly low risk high reward potential.

Kadri signed a two year deal after his entry level, then another “prove it” it 1 year deal before his long term extension. 3 contracts through his developement years before the team decided to commit long term. The leafs were about as cautious as they could have been.

Dvorak probably turns out but with the CBA as it is, and the RFA status being pretty much the only thing giving teams any kind of protection, its weird to see them not use it to its full advantage.

Bridge deals have varying levels of success but they are rarely a big mistake. The worst that happens from a bridge is a player does better than you thought and you have to pay them what theyre worth. At least there you still have a good player making what theyre supposed to or a valuable trade asset. Bad long term deals are much more damaging either by taking up valuable cap space or having to lose assets in order to get other teams to take on bad contracts. Its all about managing risk and using the RFA status wisely.

In Dvorak’s case they're obviously trying to get a bargain and taking a decent risk, we’ll see how it plays out. I’m guessing itll be fine.

palatable 4.45 per? Might be palatable in years five and six. He had better improve on past numbers. They are banking on that
