Boqvist will be a bust, Rundblad 2.0. The last thing this team needs is another Euro-smurf. I bet the Hawks draft Cole Caufield next year. The Hawks should have drafted Dobson or Miller. - DarthKane
In no way am I saying Boqvist was the wrong choice. I have no idea my point is what the Hawks value. Speed/skill is the #1, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 priorities.

You know he Hawks won't take a kid in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd rd that has a 25 goal ceiling that plays tough and nasty over a guy that is smallish with skill that has a 30 goal ceiling. Sure they'll take swings on bigger guys in the 4th, 5th, 6th but not early.

Darth,

Sometimes even I don’t know.
Honestly, I think Boqvist will be a star defenseman. He’s the pick I wanted the Hawks to make.
Boqvist, Jokiharju, Mitchell, Beaudin and Krys are some solid defensive prospects and I’m excited about their future. I will also add Hillman to that list, although he has a different skill set. I think Hillman makes the team out of training camp. |

Not being sarcastic here...I think Hillman should start in Rockford and play every game with big minutes and used in all situations, then make that evaluation. However, like you say his play might force the Hawks hand.

31 players went in the 1st rd last yr, 19 of them played in the Hlinka tournament that same yr! - Mr Ricochet
WOW! This is a very interesting stat. If my memory serves me correctly and its fading fast, the Ivan Hlinka Tourney were for players that did not make the NTDP or if there are a couple of slots remaining to get more looks at some players in international competition

I am old enough to have seen Stan play many times in Toronto. I remember one particular night the Leafs scored just before the buzzer. Both teams went off the ice, except Mikita was was arguing the goal was after the buzzer.
The ref ended up slamming the puck down at centre and storming off the ice. Mikita said later to the media that if there was indeed time left on the clock when the goal went in, that there had to be a face-off until the reaming time ran out, even if it was a fraction of a second.
A cerebral player. He was the guy who influenced me to steam my hockey stick and then bend it under a doorway to create a curve in the blade. He shared the technique he and Bobby Hull used in an interview and all of us kids did the same thing as soon as we could.
He was truly a great one. |

You know what, my pickled mind did not put that together. Indeed no 2001 who played for the NTDP U-17's last yr is on the Hlinka roster! Than you for pointing that out. https://www.usahockeyntdp...u17-team-roster-announced
Those NTDP players, along with others like My Guy Mastrosimone (Chicago Steel) will compete for spots for this yrs U-18 WJC.
Last nights OT loss to Canada was as good a hockey game as I've ever seen. https://www.sportsnet.ca/...-tilt-hlinka-gretzky-cup/
USA was robbed.......... Medal games are today. |

Yes, USA v Russia at 4:00 CDT and Sveden v Canada at 8:00 CDT. Not 100% on the times. If I'm around I'll post a link but I always start here: https://www.reddit.com/r/NHLStreams/
Russia totally outclassed the US a couple games back, 8-3. Put 55 shots on goal. |

Sounds a lot like a game that took place in Madison Square Garden 38 years ago, just before the Olympics. |

Reports out now that Brady Tkachuk is expected to sign an ELC with the Senators and he has already informed BU head coach. |

US v RUS game sucks so far. Both teams look ready to go home. Hopefully they play some hockey in the 3rd period. |

IMO hawks should be looking to maybe make a trade with Detroit, Minn, ST.Louis,Pitt, Washington and Florida what do all these teams have in common is they are all up against the cap. Especially Detroit maybe they be looking to unload a bad contract like Helm, maybe something can be done.

I mean, Washington has almost their entire cup winning roster back so they're pretty set. St. Louis on CapFriendly is showing only $200k ish space, but that's with a 24 man roster, so that'll be well over $1m in space once it's down to 22/23. Pittsburgh already did it's cap dump (Hunwick).
As for Detroit, Zetterberg is going to go the LTIR route most likely, so that'll give them some room to breath. They might want to dump him or Franzen to get out of LTIR-mode but there's no rush when they're not going to be competitive this year. |
