Everyone stay calm.
Choosing not to do something is, in fact, a concrete choice of none action.
The idea that nothing is happening is profoundly wrong.
Everything is rapidly closing down. The Sens have a skeleton front office. They hardly have any contracts beyond this year. An end to this misery is closer today than it was yesterday.
The players are back on the ice. They all seemed remarkably happy, especially Karlsson. The fans strongly support the players. The fans universally despise Melnyk.
Being patient is an imperative. Staying positive is the harder challenge. But, we need to go through this stage in order to get to the other side.
Change will occur when the will of the critical mass asserts itself. We are at that point. Fans, media, industry, civic leaders and even players are entirely transparent. We all want a change, if it does not happen today, we will wait for tomorrow.

you're an idiot.
all this from a guy who has already ditched at least one team he cheered for. the irony that your former team is in a far better and more enviable position than your new team is pure justice.
youre a pathetic, sad hypocrite. |

I wonder if there are legit rumblings about a team sale and many of the other items are 'on hold' waiting to see if a sale plays out. |

I think we know the answer to the two questions is yes. First, there are a minimum two groups that have made public overtures about having an interest in purchasing the Senators. It has been broadly stated that Karlsson will not negotiate or resign a long term deal in Ottawa as long as Melnyk remains owner of the team. I have not heard anything different but I assume Stone, Duchene et. al. will march to the same drummer.
I am not sure that any of it (in terms of the existing group of players) can be taken off of the current collision outcome. I fear Karlsson, Stone and Duchene will all be traded as we head into training camp and the regular season.
But as long as young quality assets come back in return it will be worth the price of being able to move beyond the Melnyk era.
Everyday it is becoming more apparent that the current arrangement is unworkable. Yet, the building of the LRT ($2.1b.) and planning for LeBretton ($3.7b.) and adjacent properties (over $4.0b.) continue full speed ahead.
Resolution is close at hand.

No chatter is good news for a sale.
Also, chatter is good news for a sale.
Weekdays are good news for a sale.
But please keep in mind weekends are good news for a sale.
Long term contracts are good news for a sale.
But it would be a typical Laffs fan who doesn't see that short term contracts are good news for a sale.
Any second now there will be a sale, but it may make more sense to wait for a sale.

The thing is, there may actually be a sale. The sale may happen next week.
The hilarious part is that he posts like he has some sort of insider knowledge and that he even understands anything about what is going on. He also makes stupid statements like the team having the full fan support.
The fans didn't stay away from playoff games because they hate Melnyk or the parking was bad or the Redblacks were good. They stayed away because, outside of the small, hardocore fanbase, the rest of the city doesn't give a poop.
I also love the optimism about no contracts and new owners... they don't get an expansion draft. They have to pretty much start over with nothing. |

It'd be naive of me (and you) to claim knowledge of these w/o something to back them up. But do you honestly think if either of those improves, that some amount of STH wouldn't increase?
The arena was filled to capacity before (even outside of Leafs and Habs games), and when stability and direction returns, I have to think so will fans. Fans of original-6 teams in huge cities who can take their sheer volume of accumulated fans for granted, don't have to worry about this stuff. |

To your last two points:
1. it was playoff game, not games. Let's not pretend it's a regular occurrence. And yes, many people did stay away (even though it was the playoffs) because they hate Melnyk. I have friends and family who did as much. My facebook account is littered with people who will not spend a dime on this team (and have made it clear for a few years now). My group of friends are part of hardcore fan base and those are the people who are the ones putting their foot down. It's not the casual fans who care (or even know much about it). The movement to get rid of Melnyk and stop spending our money on the team started with the hardcore fans.... not the casual ones.
2. as for the optimism, I would easily give up all our talent and start from scratch if it meant new ownership. I think the vast majority of hardcore fans are in the same boat as me. If he sells tomorrow, season ticket holders would start coming back, immediately. |

Ottawa RedBlacks sold 17,493 season tickets last year. The Senators are lucky if they get half that number for the coming season. In the last year before Alfredsson left the Senators averaged 19,400 in attendance. People outside the region want to believe that the fans don't support the team. Support for the team is as strong as ever. Support for the players is also strong. Players love the community.
Nobody wants to support the owner. It is as simple as that.
When the Sens went deep into the playoffs and they failed to sell out a game it had as much to do with logistics as demand. When you allow your season ticket base to shrink it becomes increasingly harder to sell out a venue.
Fans of other teams want to make this about something other than ownership. They do not comprehend the level of contempt that most everyone has for Melnyk. Fans are not upset with players for not wanting to play for him. Players (e.g. Turris and Karlsson) wanted to stay but Melnyk refused to engage in discussions for a long term deal and shopped Karlsson as a deadline deal last spring. So, should anyone really be surprised by what is happening. |

Why would any team relocate now when Bettman has made it clear the preference is league expansion? Why would he allow a move of a team when he knows he can earn the league another half a billion dollars through expansion fees that are redistributed into the pockets of the other owners?
There is no reason for any team to move any longer with the possible exception of Arizona given they don't have a permanent lease arrangement for their stadium. The Sens come with an already owned arena. There's no reason to relocate, at all. When the team is sold to a new ownership group the fans, including me, will be back in droves especially once all the Phoenix payroll issues are resolved...in 2035... |

I agree with everything except the bolded. until there started to be ownership issues, Ottawa was consistently right near the top of the the league in attendance.
fans started to stay away because melnyk's broke ass started jacking up the prices, while slashing what you got for those increased prices.....including the on-ice product. he blamed the fans for his financial issues............like what did you expect the fans to do?
I don't live in Ottawa anymore, so the whole buying or not buying tickets thing is moot for me.........but I haven't bought a single piece of sens merchandise in the last 3-4 years for the SOLE reason that I refuse to put a single penny of my hard earned salary into the (frank)ers pocket.......and I know most fans feel the same.

this would be so much better of an attempt to troll if relocation was even remotely possible. since you don't understand basic economics, let me explain it to you.
if the NHL allows the team to move, they still have the problem of an owner who cant' even afford to pay his payroll, let alone the actual cost of moving a franchise.
on the other hand, if they expand, the league and owners get 500+ mil to split amongst themselves....while at the same time, melnyk is eventually forced to sell the team and a more financially secure owner steps in.
if makes ZERO financial sense for anyone to move the team, while expansion nets everyone hundreds of millions. |

Good post. This what people outside the region don't grasp. Fans make a huge distinction between the owners and the team and players.

Tomorrow Melynk and the mayor get together for informal meetings. To discuss i would imagine lebreton flats.
So probably a little more nothing to report will fuel the inter net after the meeting. as to the impending doom of the Sens. Over under odds of that happening...... even vegas wouldnt touch that slam dunk. |

You'd probably have to sweeten the pot for any deal involving them with multiple high draft picks. Probably best to just place them on waivers for the purpose of buyouts. |

Judging from the endless stream of drivel you spewed from 2 summers ago until sometime around Christmas last year when you disappeared from the forums, most people would think that you're pretty surprised by what's happening.
It wasn't all that long ago when things like ownership, management and fan support didn't matter because scoreboard. According to you at least. |

Worst case scenario is Ek , Stone and Duschene walk at the end of the year Tkachuk flakes out on you guys and you have no 1st round pick in 2019.
That would be a disaster. |

I haven’t bought a ticket or piece of NHL mercy since the last lockout. I still pay for cable and buy beer when I score free tickets for games tho. |
