Just asking Leaf fans...if you think Nylander should be a bridge contract, do you think Matthews and Marner should be bridge contracts as well?

Long term here. You may pay a bit more than worth the first couple few years but the value the last few years more than makes up for it. Bridge to long term means the money goes up up up and the player gets older so the last few years you get terrible value.

Mathews and Marner are ahead of Nylander and warrant a long term deal. Have to choose one to help manage the cap for the future. Bridge deal still leave the option to trade at peak value or sign long term afterwards.

I think most people just want it to be a bridge deal because then it gives us a buffer financially so we can pay a defenceman. It's nothing to do with skill/attitude like most bridge deals appear to be about.

another outstanding blog that took what, 30 seconds?

"There are still a number of significant restricted free agents (William Nylander, Sam Reinhart, Dylan Larkin) unsigned and now the question is whether teams like the Leafs, Sabres and Wings will sign them to bridge deals or long-term contracts.

Will be posting a blog later in the afternoon, but watch the Buzzcast at 1pm as Mike, Russ and Anthony discuss this subject: "
