That’s not the point. Everything laid out in the article is cut and dry. Everything you’re saying is subjective and arbitrary. Jesus Christ.
I remember a 2nd overall pick from a couple years ago that people thought was on an nhl team, went back to juniors for the year.

Why are my standards for what makes someone a prospect more arbitrary than his definition?

I think mine is as cut and dry as you can be

If you’re on the roster...
*past game 10 to incl your Reinhart scenario
...then you’re no longer a “prospect”

However,
I don’t feel like i need to wait till game 10 to know that Dahlin & Mittelstadt will be here all year...
do you?

Spot on

GREAT POST

You really think “penciling in” Dahlin & Mittelstadt into our lineup is arbitrary?

That’s ridiculous

They will both be here,
and you guys know it

ROR got traded
That pretty much sealed the deal for Mitts (if it wasn’t already a sure thing)

True or false...
they’re both on this year’s roster full-time?

Until they are on the team after training camp mitts and Dahlin are prospects... why has this even been an argument??? Will they make the opening roster, pretty sure that is 100%.

That’s why (even in the meantime) i consider it ridiculous to level them as “prospects”

We all know they’re gonna be roster players

Even Boss & Hank know this...
but they’d rather just TROLL bc they don’t like me or something

Oh well

But until they are on the active roster, they technically are prospects. We all know they are going to be here barring a couple major trades ( yeah I know)

Is it really worth arguing such a mute point...??

Good grief
You know what i meant

Fine, I’ll rephrase...

Will they be on this year’s roster full time?
The obvious answer is “Yes”

So what exactly is the point of calling them “prospects” for 2 months?

Ok, so when does a young player on the roster stop being labeled a “prospect” then?

On what arbitrary game do they cross that threshold?
Game 40? Game 20?

Mittelstadt & Dahlin are roster players,
not “prospects”

- jdfitz77

Schrödinger's prospect.

Your answer begs its own question. When does a young player become “on the roster?”

This is why the best way to do define prospect is the day before the season opens. Not Aug 2. Or game 60.
