You know, I don't hate this trade tbh. I get where you're coming from with the picks, but picks are extremely overrated in my mind. The draft is a crapshoot and it is more likely that the pick is a bust than a gem. That's just the way the draft works. I've never really understood the value some people place on draft picks so I don't get worked up over losing one to acquire a prospect who might have potential value.
The kid is big and strong and plays a defensive minded game. I'm all for some added center depth and maybe he finds his game with a new home. |

It’s to bad graves never really had any real shot with the organization. He doesn’t have to point totals to warrant a big opportunity but you need to get some opportunity to show what you can do. Hopefully he gets some ice in the A at least. |

Picks are a total crapshoot, and there in lies their value. You don't realize how valuable they are until they're gone, and you see your team sit at the draft and do nothing (which I've seen many times in my lifetime).
Picks, even late ones, give you a pipeline of young, cheap, sometimes exciting players coming up. A player like Mckinnis is below replacement value. If you need depth for the AHL there's a long list of vets that are actually good at that level, or intriguing European players who can fit that bill. They cost nothing but an spc. You don't need to give up any pick for a 3rd line AHL player. |

Assuming this season flops, I'm sure jarmo can get some picks back I mean 6th overall, people are acting as if it's liquid gold ..... |

To be frank, if this season flops I don't think it'll be Jarmo getting any picks. Never know, but I feel like there is more urgency to his job this season to win a playoff series. |

Honestly they should trade him before the season, not quite sure I would like having a player going around giving out deadlines (sept 13) for god knows what.... - Alexzanki
It would be nice to know if Panarin told JK there was no way he'd sign an extension, or if he just wants to see the market. However, it's usually not a positive sign when the player starts dictating terms, and using leverage.
If it's about $$, I would hope that Jarmo would go up to $11MM/yr for 8 yrs. Although Kucherov signing @ $9.5MM AAV should temper Panarin a little.
If he's not going to sign with the CBJ, then tell JK so he can make the best trade, and both parties can go on their ways.
As I've said before, I'd hate to see AP leave, but he doesn't want to stay in C-Bus, let's make a trade and move on. |

I'd trade Panarin if his asking price is above $10 mil/yr. I like the guy, but I don't like him that much. We had Panarin on our roster last year and still didn't win a series so one guy is not a fix and if you give him $11 mil for 8 years you're pretty much ensuring cap issues in a few years.
Looking down the road, with potential contracts to sign in the next two summers (not including this one) including Anderson, PLD, Milano, Sedlak, Murray, Werenski, Bob, Korpi. That's a lot of players who very likely will be getting some kind of bump in salary.
I want to sign Panarin, and I want to do it for more than 3 years, but I think at this point Columbus should really see what they can get for Bread and pull the trigger. He isn't going to sign here as a UFA. I'd be thrilled if we can get a 1st and a good young player out of it. |
