Heading to the OHL would be a downgrade in competition and a waste of time

From Boston University?

Not sure that we ever saw Colin White at Sens camp before he left college. I think it's NCAA rules that prevent it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think the difference in competition is negligible....NCAA had gotten MUCH better over the years....I think the big disadvantage of NCAA is how much less hockey you play. you probably play half the amount of games.

I’m from and live in buffalo. After the Sabres, the senators are my favorite team and have been for some time now. I’m upset that Karlsson probably won’t be there next year, can’t imagine how you guys feel.

I think he has to sign to come to camp.

Then his two options other than making the Sens are AHL or OHL.

As far as I know you're allowed to attend camp as a college student, you just have to pay for it out of pocket. The team isn't allowed to pick up any related expenses.

Of course there's been no developments on the Karlsson front. It was all BS to begin with. Notice how quiet it is for new developments now that all the 'insiders' (read: click bait bullpoop creationists) have gone on their summer vacations? I sure do. Kypreos, McKenzie, Dreger, Seravelli, the whole lot of em can take their six figure salaries and shove em right back up where they pulled all their rumours and controversy from...

Since this whole thing started, Karlsson has been quiet and so has Dorion. Karlsson said at the end of the deadline last year that he signed here long term for a reason, he likes it here and would be open to an extension and was happy he did not get traded. One thing to keep in mind about Swedes: they are very serious when they say something about their intentions and expect to be taken at their word. Until Karlsson requests a trade or states he has no intention of resigning here, everything else is just complete and total crap.

I continue to believe he will sign here. They are likely just waiting for the financing they announced before free agency to finally come through and for Karlsson to come back from vacation and for the Stone/Ceci contracts to be finalized before any more negotiations take place. They'll know better how much space and budget they'll have to work with. at that point.

I hope Tkachuk signs here and he, Brown and White all make the team outta camp. Would be a fun line to watch grow together over the next few years, and they'll all be on league entry level contracts. Would be a great 2nd line when it develops and we have Stone-Duchene-Ryan/Batherson/Dzingel on line 1.

I wish there was more clarity on what was happening with Marion Gaborik too, if he plays one more year here it wouldn't be a huge loss and would give some decent depth scoring. If he has a decent season could even flip him at the deadline for more assets from a team making a large playoff run.

Fun times ahead, with EK in the fold until future notice. Of course now that I've typed this he will definitely be traded in the next 24 hours, but I remain confident he's staying.

NCAA does not allow them to attend full training camp, 2 days and all expense must be paid by the NCAA Kid, they can not receive any comps from the NHL club while there such as travel and lodging.

They are allowed to attend Dev Camp but their on ice sessions are limited, same rule applies but must pay their own way (transportation, lodging, food, etc.) and current players may not miss class to do so.

Prospects are allowed to stay after the 2 days but are not allowed to participate after teh 48 hour window and still must continue to pay their own expenses

The majority of the best teenagers are playing in the chl. Just because they are older, does not mean they are better hockey players. If college was so good, why did playes like Crosby, McDavid, Tavares , MacKinnon all play in the chl??

Exactly.

There are good players coming out of the NCAA, and they have made huge strides over the past 10 years, even the past 5 years. The fact that they are generally older is offset by the fact that the talent pool is generally deeper in the CHL I don't buy that the quality of hockey or competition is better.

I think the chl might have better players but the NCAA has better teams if that makes any sense.

If the quality of competition is so much worse in College, the best players should be putting up 80-90 points in ~40 games, but instead really good prospects will be about point per game players or slightly above that. In the CHL, you'll see players have 100 points in 60 games quite often. I'm not saying the CHL is a worse route to go or that they have worse players in their league, I'm just saying that for an 18 year old, it's better to play against young men compared to teenagers.

It's pretty straightforward.
