We went into last season not knowing what the likes of Butcher, Bratt, Coleman Gibbons, etc could do. Here's hoping some other young guys step into the lineup and surprise. |

I'd take Callahan with a pick and a decent prospect and just buy him out.
They don't need to go after Johnson that much IMO. It would cost them, which means they aren't really... erm "weaponizing" their cap space but making a hockey trade.
SJ "weaponized" their cap space when they took Malakov and a 1st round pick from us back post lockout (we got a couple of nobodies). |

I'm not taking Callahan for just a 1st rounder, which will probably be near 30th overall. There has to be more, and that's probably why no trade has occurred yet, because Steve Yzerman is a stubborn SOB. |

That and a lot of Tampa’s players have NTC’s, why would anyone waive their NTC now when Tampa is probably the Cup Favorite this season |

^This!
The lightning's 1st rounder for 2019 will go to the NY Rangers if they win the cup, so if we are looking for a 1st round pick for Callahan it might not be until 2020! My guess is since they are so much in win now mode they don't want to part with any players of value in return. |

What about getting somebody like Gourde or Point? I don't want the first rounder. You'd think Ottawa HAS to be demanding Sergachev plus picks. They probably want one of Gourde and/or Point as well. If I'm Tampa, throwing all these assets around just to get Karlsson back and a C level prospect from the Devils, is just all too much. I'd back out. |

We should've drafted Point in the first place, but there is zero chance they trade him or that we'd be the ones getting him. I would suspect Gourde to be the more likely trade candidate, but one year is a small sample size and Tampa is stacked, so the verdict is still out on him for me. I'd be more inclined to go for something simple if Johnson appears to require more than McLeod from us. I'd do something like McLeod for Johnson and Callahan or a 7th round pick for Raddysh and Callahan. |

I can only guess at the insanity going on between Yzerman and Dorian to get a deal done. Not to mention whatever Karlsson's demands are. Ironically Ottawa has the cap space to get this done without any help but are probably refusing to add salary... They have almost $ 18M with Karlsson's $ 6.5M included. |

What if the Devils are in in EK all alone? Could explain why SHero skipped od Dehaan |

Yeah, I agree. We have to get something of value though. Not just picks and eat up Callahan's contract. I'd take Gourde. I believe he's promising. Better than Zacha! |

Devils may have kicked the tires on acquiring Karlsson but my guess is they didn't have the pieces or Karlsson refused to sign an extension and be traded to NJ. |

Remember when you traded us Andrei Loktionov, Jaccob Slavin and Morgan Geekie for Alexei Ponikarovsky and Tuomo Ruutu?
Good times. |

Not interested in Gourde. He's 26 and he's only done what he did for one season and did not maintain it in the playoffs. High potential of Fool's Gold (like Cory Conacher). |

And still owed you a draft pick or two up until last year I think. |

I thought we traded you Loktionov and a third for Ruttu, and separately we traded Joe Sova and 4th for Ponikarovsky.
Anwyway, LOVED Poni for his help in the season ending goal by Henrique vs. the Rags in 2012. He threw the eventual game winner on goal, then went and threw it back again before it was buried over Queenie Lundqvist. Good times. I was there!

What the hell is going on in Newark? If they aren't going to sign anyone and aren't going to do straight up trades, I cannot understand why we are not getting in on the type of action like this AZ/CHI deal that just happened. We couldn't eat Hossa's contract for those three legitimate assets they gave AZ? For all this inaction TB better be sending over Point, Gourde and a pick for eating Callahan's contract. |

I wouldn't be too upset about De Haan. Played more than 65 games in a season twice, & just had shoulder surgery. High possibility you'd be using ltir on him.
It is strange that a playoffs team hasn't improved their team. Shero is probably brewing something early season or waiting to pounce on a cap overflow situation before the season starts. |
