Yeah, IF he has a handshake deal for a proven star, then I can understand this. If it's a salary dump, then I still shake my head.

Agreed. Because they could have just LTIR Hossa in season

Hearing CHI/ARIZ working on deal where Coyotes take Marian Hossa’s contract. Believe Hinostroza is part of deal

- mrpaulish

Make it happen. Hinostroza is definitely a nice young asset, but there are plenty of young players chomping at the bit right now. If they can move Hossa's contract now and give breathing room for some impact trades, I think it's a wise move.

Vinnie is a nice versatile player but I just don't think he has the offensive upside of Schmaltz, Sikura or DeBrincat. Plus the Hawks strength is on the wing so I'm fine giving him up especially with other smallish forward prospects coming up soon.

Having him on LTIR affects how they accrue cap space during the year. It would limit or eliminate the daily savings and make any in season moves much more difficult. Moving Hossa gives them much more flexibility.

I’m hearing similar about @FriedgeHNIC’s report about Hossa and Hinostroza being traded to AZ. Working to confirm and get more detail.

For the folks who went to the Chicago Pro League games last night, what did you think? See that DBC got another hat trick. Vinnie seemed to be trying to emulate Kane.

They had said Toews and Kane might be playing, but not this night, at least.

- pdx2ord

It was interesting, no hits, no slap shots. Kind of really talented beer league haha. Kendall Coyne was cool to watch too. Shes quick and has a really quick wrister.

ADB looked good, but he should have been. Scoring 20+ goals last year, he better average a hat trick.

Hino was looking really good actually. He's actually bigger than I thought too. Excited to see what he can do in camp and how can improve this year.

Oesterle (robbed like 4 times) and Louis played.

Others who are on the rosters, but didnt play: Toews, Kane, Saad, Schmaltz, Jokiharju, Kahun, and Delia.

Other notables, Bollig (fans loved him, he waved while on a breakout with the puck), Luke Johnson, and Hartman (on the bench in street clothes).

After the game, ADB Johnson and Hartman were hanging out and talking for a while.

It was a cool experience and for those who have kids, would be a fun time to spend. We stood along the glass next to the locker rooms and on the way in, the players reached out and signed some autographs (mainly Bollig). Out of the rink, Carcillo was there talking with some people as well. My buddy was walking into the rink with 3 beers and couldn't open the door, he asked a guy next to him to open it for him. Turns out he asked Bowman to open the door for him. He did, but we ragged on him for asking. It's $5 and a portion of the proceeds go to a charity. I recommend it.

Dang - would hate to lose Hinostroza and to be honest... why wouldn't Stan make this move prior to July 1st so he could use the cap space?

However, shedding this Hossa contract would be great for the Hawks over the next 3 years.

Guess is the move wasn't there before July 1. Both teams, at least Arizona, probably had to wait and see how things shook out with the free agent signing spree before making a deal. Or perhaps Stan didn't want to part with Vinnie until now.

I think Niklas Nordgren & Jake Wise will stick out, IMO they were steals. They'd be 2nd round picks in most "normal" drafts, but this past draft was deep so a lot of teams got lucky.. Niklas Nordgren is a pure goal scorer, a DeBrincat type - and like DeBrincat the knock on him is his size, and I wouldn't be shocked if he was ready next season, much like DeBrincat... Teams will be kicking themselves for letting him slip. IMO, Nordgren makes up for the fact the Hawks passed on Wahlstrom.

I'm EXPECTING Adam Boqvist to stick out, he'd be a top 3 pick in most "normal" drafts - not to mention he was ranked top 5 pretty much all season until the final rankings.. So yea, I would expect he sticks out...

I would expect Henri Jokiharju to impress - this is his time to shine, and the Hawks could really use him (depending on how well he does of course) but if he's not ready, then he's not ready - no need to rush him. However he will certainly get his 10 games to start the season..

At any rate our defense is still broken, Jokiharju could be a nice add but I'm not expecting much out of him if he makes the team.... I would rather Jokiharju get top 4 minutes in the AHL than play 10 minutes a night with the Hawks...

And like Debrincat, Nordgren's skating is a question mark. Debrincat's skating was fine this past season so this may prove to be the case for Nordgren as well.
I researched Nordgren this morning and was quite intrigued by what I read. A lot of supporters of other teams (eg Oilers, Habs) wanted to draft him as early as the second round. We may have something here.

Yes and how crowded was it?
- Rota's Rooter

It was actually pretty packed. Stands were full and along the glass (half of the ice) was full. Concessions and Bar was opened, and reaaallly cheap. Labatt was $3, so we went to town. It really was a cool atmosphere.

Thanks for the notes on your experience at the game. I remember looking at players Instagram feeds a while back and remember this picture of Hinostroza working out on his driveway (from last summer):

https://www.instagram.com...aken-by=vinnie_hinostroza

Hinostroza is a great example of not letting size be a factor. He's dedicated to staying in shape and fine tuning his game, especially by learning from and practicing with the best (i.e. Kane). Staying in great physical shape and constantly looking to get better are a great way to keep yourself in the running for a starting job.

I like Hino but I don't see him any better than a bottom-6 winger. I would happily lose him in a trade that get's us out from under Hossa's contract for the next 3 years.
