Been looking into a couple things since the trade... sounds like CHI could actually look to help out TB with that Karlsson trade.

My contact didn't know what stage thatwas at or if the Hawks are that far along in talks... but maybe that idea I had about Stralman (or something similar) could come to fruition.

Would be nice to take advantage of someone's cap hell for once.

As long we Stan finds a way to benefit from that.

I get they are not elite talents, but both were very good players on the Hawks. Hartman did a lot of the work that is needed in the corners and kept guys honest when on the ice. Hino was a 0.5 PPG player playing all over the lineup with minimal PP time.

People are allowed to not like how they are being used at work. I've left a couple different companies when I didn't think I was put in position to do anything worthwhile. Heaven forbid, they give an honest answer to a question.

Guess what - professional sports is a tough gig and teams replace players they don't think they can win with or are good enough. Both Hartman and Hinostroza fit into that category. You can send them a sympathy card but the bottom line is the Hawks didn't think that highly of either one of them. Because on the expenditure side of things, both of them were cap friendly. They just aren't very good NHL players.

The upside is that while Ward doesn't have the best numbers he was 23-14-4 last season, which wasn't bad. I think sometimes it is about if a guy makes the save at the key time.
- breadbag

He doesn't.

Ward will be perfectly adequate for 30 games though.

Any more than that and you'll have a problem.

I love the deal. It gives the Hawks almost 5 million additional in cap space. Vinny is a Smurf which is a big complaint on this board) whopp
0 tops out ideally as a third-line forward. Oesterle is one of those bottom pairing or 7th defenseman types that the board has been saying we have too many of. The Hawks get a decent Prospect, a potentially solid Face-Off guy who is known by Q. If he doesn't work out, the Hawks clear his cap at the end of the season when he becomes a free agent. It did not cost a first round pick, it did not cost number 12 or Schmaltz. It restocks some of the IceHogs roster and it buys flexibility. The only thing that makes this a bad deal in my opinion since dance is unable to prove the defense with the extra cap room

With this trade going down today do see other moves being made soon? Any rumblings starting up now that hossa was traded about Faulk or even Truoba I mention that I would pass on Patch and skinner rather see them go after someone younger plus the hawks should be looking at teams that would like to shed salary might be able to acquire a really good young player.
- Scott1977

Hey Scott - just posted something below.

Hawks sound like their willing to help (see: help themselves) with a TB salary dump.

Would a Stralman + Mitchell Stephens/Anthony Cirelli to Hawks for lower level prospect(s)/late round picks(s) makes sense for Stevie Y?

If it meant having Erik Karlsson for at least one year (word is he wants an extension in TB as well) when the Lightning are primed to win a Stanley Cup... then maybe, yes.

May be confirmation bias on my part, but it seems we've had multiple players leaving the Hawks in past couple of years who've commented on how they were unclear on their role, felt yanked around or underutilized or unfairly sidelined for mistakes, etc. You also had the Captain, Hossa, and other vets saying how the constant line blender was affecting chemistry and ability to perform at an optimal level.

This was rarely done in prior years, but I guess winning cures all ills.

Goes back to my belief that Q needs to start fitting his system to the player skillset he has rather than trying to make the players fit a predefined system.

Agree

As a Stan basher I still like this move

Maybe they snag a real nice prospect like Cirelli or Stephens.

The American Society for Orthopedic Medicine says:
About 90% of athletes who have surgery for a sports hernia are able to return to competition at the same level or higher to where they were prior to their injury. The timing of return to competition for laparoscopic surgery is typically within 6 weeks while for open surgery it is usually a few months to as long as 6 months.

I say this is optimistic BS.
Had one of my young teammates go through this and it took him about 3 months (so double what they say) to get back on the ice and 6 months (no description from them on returning to "normal") before feeling and looking fully healed.

Maybe Kruger is 100% by end of October/early November.

- savvyone-1

Since its not the dark ages anymore, odds are quite high it was done laparoscopic. 5 week full recovery. Speaking from personal history.
Measuring Freddie's recovery based on a non professional athlete recovery time, and then doubling it to support your narrative is silly.
Not saying if Freddy has found those elusive 10 lbs and offensive capability, but he will be ready by camp

Know what Scott, no matter what anyone thinks of yours or anyone else's proposal the fact is they can logically afford these moves due to the cap space now available.

Opens ups 75% more of the playing field.

Killhorn makes any team better, that kind of IQ middle 6 player with decent skill. But IMO does not fit where the Hawks are now. A guy like him in 3 yrs? Yes, but IMO not now.

- Mr Ricochet

ok sounds good just looking at teams up against the cap and how the hawks could possibly take advantage of the cap space they have now. Killhorn is example of a player the hawks should be looking for.

Not denying it is a tough gig. Hartman was acquired by Nashville for a playoff push (you think they wanted to give Chi a first rounder for an AHLer?), and Hino was the main active player going back to AZ in this trade.

I don't feel bad for any pro athlete. They get to make money to play a game. The point I was making was that you can't realistically say that they are not good hockey players. Not right for the Hawks right now? Maybe, but they will both be playing a lot of minutes in the NHL next year.

I would do Stralman Cirelli in a heartbeat fills 2 needs wonder what the hawks would have to give up.

that's with 17 players....add 5-6 more guys (who are currently signed) and that cap space goes down.

Well I know Wiz mentioned Jordan Maletta and I know little about him, but it appears while he has very little upside, he is a potential bottom 6 center who can play the PK, plays hard and ...wins draws.

Last year he must have been injured because he only played 28 games in the AHL, scoring a measly four points. Year before he scored 23 in 76 games. Not gonna translate into anything much in the NHL, BUT if he can play good 200 foot game, kill penalties and win faceoffs, which sounds like he can....he may get a look in Chicago ... with Kruger and Luke Johnson in tow I really am liking our bottom 6 center...trouble is, none of those guys project as Line 3 Center...
