Justin Lowe: Prospects All-Star Team I love prospects. There, I said it.

I'm going to jump the gun and pretend that we're at July 21st of 2018. The Chicago Blackhawks prospects development camp has just end (runs July 16-20) and we're all on the messages boards and reading the twitter about who the most impressive players are in the system.

What I'm going to do in the below is select a 1st All-Star team, followed by (you guessed it), a 2nd All-Star team.

I´ll pick two names above everybody else. Tim Soderlund and Henri Jokiharju those are the ones that will impress most. I´m also waiting to see how Lucas Carlsson and Dennis Gilbert do. Not expecting much from Boqvist but next year he´ll be the name out there.

Of course another real defense-man would help.

But its all about Corey.

As Metallica would say "Nothing else matters..."

Im more obsessed with Corey's status than Topanga

Nice blog, Justin. I'm like you: I love prospects and prognostication even if I'm just an armchair GM/scout/player personnel staffer or what have you with little to no sources other than what I read on the interwebs or see on the YouTubes.

My picks for camp standouts:
Evan Barratt (F)
Mathias From (F)
Jacob Nilsson (F)
Niklas Nordgren (F)
Tim Soderlund (F)
Jake Wise (F)
Nicolas Beaudin (D)
Adam Boqvist (D)
Henri Jokiharju (D)
Chad Krys (D)
Ian Mitchell (D)

My "just for fun" picks like your Peyton Jones pick:
I'm guessing that one of the 4 college goalie tryouts (Peyton Jones, Chase Marchand, Linden Marshall, Mathew Robson) will have an impressive camp.

I think Lucas Carlsson, Dennis Gilbert, and Blake Hillman will have solid camps where they won't stand out per se but show enough to the coaches that they have what it takes to have a strong year in Rockford this year as reliable, defense-first blueliners. Then one or all 3 may possibly earn a call-up later in the season and potentially crack the starting lineup next fall.

I prefer wingers play their off side. Soderlund is left shooting LW and Nordgren is right shooting RW, at least that's what their bio says. I'd rather have them switch to off wing and would love to see a prospect camp line of Nordgren-Wise-Soderlund.

He might score a few but you'll see his skating needs a lot of work..

Good read Justin.

I know Stan gets bashed a lot in this blog. And mauch of it deservingly. BUT....I, for one, am in agreement of the way he has handled this off-season so far.

If Tavarez and karlsson were not options...and his only possibilities were the Neal, Beagle, Van Reimsdyk, Kovalchuk, Stastny and the like....well, I think he did EXACTLY as he should have done. Nothing!

There is not one contract those guys signed that I would like to have seen the Hawks enter into.

For the first time in years we are NOT in CAP Hell. We also have some decent prospects, that I also agree he should NOT part with to move the Hossa contract. If he can move it for some "B" prospects then so be it...or involved in a bigger trade...then OK. But to move a top 3-4 prospect to get somebody to take on Hossa....not a chance!

Nope....Stan has done what he should be doing.. Short term...low cost contracts....until he finds a player that can be a "Difference-maker".

Patience Stan....another 5 x 5 million 2nd line winger is not going to make us a contender. Stay the course...so far...so good...

I liked this draft pick....low risk but huge upside.

JL...I share your enthusiasm about Carlsson. He could be a surprise prospect to make the team in the next year or two. Everything I've read/seen points to him being a solid overall d-man, not flashy but solid.

I can't wait to see Soderlund play on North American Ice, maybe after one more season in Europe he can come over.

Maybe they are more comfortable playing on their strong handed wing?

The hyped guys like Boqvist/Joki/Mitchell are great and exciting but primarily offensive focused.

Someone will have to play defence in the future - that's where a guy like Carlsson could come in handy.

Let's see how that works out for them. He needs to put together a string of good seasons to prove his worth.

Imagine if the Oilers signed Cam Talbot after his 1st good season in Edmonton? Woof.

Bowman with an 'ace up his sleeve". The fact he has really done very little, other than waste 6 million dollars on aging/washed up/not good free agents, may not be a bad thing. Just call it a summer and hit camp with this crew and tell Bowman to clock out a bit early today.

I'll defer to the guys and gals more knowledgeable on the rookies. Just glad there is some excitement.
