Hey, I'm a Habs fan.

I like paying goaltenders lots of money.

In all seriousness, yeah it's a pretty big deal but Hellebuyck is older than people think.

He's already 25, so this deal actually buys out alot of his UFA years.... I think.

And with the team the Jets have, he should have a similar level of success, if you bridge him, he'll most likely get even more money in 2 years.

He's been excellent at every level he has played.... only had a rough time adjusting to the starter role 2 years ago.

I like it.

Seems steep Scabs

If I were the Jets I'd prefer to bridge him on a 2 year prove yourself 4.5M AAV type contract and then give him the term. He had what, one solid year as a true number 1?

- RickJames77

A gamble on both sides IMO - $6mil not bad from Jets perspective- who need some cost certainty because looming contracts. They have lots of money for Trouba this year but Laine, and especially Wheeler next year will have an element of challenge.

Where does that rank him on the highest paid goalie list? Like 6th or 7th?

Agreed, they'll have to make some choices down the line.

Their time is now.

- Scabeh

I see your point, but I have a hard time committing to a guy that had one year as a true #1 for 6 years as the League's 6th highest paid goaltender.

With the Jets including Cheveldayoff being on the cheap side of things, it will be hard for them to stomach paying Laine $11 mil next year and even harder when Wheeler wants $50 to $55 for five years next season. Another 91 points this year will almost guaranty that number.

Completely agree, how much more money would he really get after his bridge, I mean there are only so many Bergevin's out there to overpay goaltenders.

No way do the Caps sign him for 10M per year.

Then again, I thought Price was gonna get closer to 9 and here we are.

I am conflicted on what Wheeler will do. I have a feeling Wheeler might test free agency, but he is their captain, so maybe he takes a bit of a discount?

Wheeler might be the most underrated player in the league. His name is never up there with the best from what I've seen at least.

Ahh another ex-Bruin flourishing elsewhere

No one knows what Wheeler wants or how he feels going forward.

But he's one of the best player in the NHL so someone is going to give him alot of money if it's not Winnipeg.

Any predictions on how much Trouba will get? I am thinking 5.75M-6.25M for 5-6 years.

He's got the Cup and he's gotten a Vezina, a Jennings and three All-Star appearances.

He's getting 10

Without a doubt. Plus you have to factor in whatever the cap has gone to compared to when Price signed that contract. 10M seems like a lock.

I wouldn't go that far. Wait until he has a few consistent years. Look what happened to Talbot.. it happens to many goalies where they have a random good season, then go back to being mediocre. Dude did have a great year though let's see if he can keep it up. Having good defense in front of him certainly helps.
