John Tavares and his 9 years with this organization are dead to us. We will move on from that wolf in sheeps clothing very quickly. New Arena. Real coach. Real GM (we hope). We are prepared to delete him from this franchise and move on. We don’t need a letter from you trying to make us believe you didn’t bend us over like you did. We know the truth and no Islander fan will ever believe a word out of your lying mouth. Our letter to you reads this:

🖕. Blow your knee out

Thanks

- BringNYIhome

I think this post tells us pretty much all you need to know about you. Ever wishing harm on another person like your post above is immature, and shows how much class, and character you have...none

LOL what a dumb comment....all you people on your high horses are ridiculous. Have you never switched jobs for another job because you thought it was a better opportunity for you, or for personal reasons?

Just stupidity. I get the passion from NYI's fans, cause I would be upset too, but from other fan bases, just idiotic...

Barzal is our Franchise player. 85 points in his rookie year. he had more points than JT. I see Barzal becoming a 100 point player this year or next. he is so fast and dynamic. he is a winner.
- Hockeyislife

I love Barzal as a player. I thought he was dynamic back in the World Juniors for Canada. I am interested to see how he does without the shelter of JT however. I think hell take a step back next year, before he takes a step forward the year after.

Agreed, stuff like that is classless. I get being upset, I was pretty pissed when Chris Bosh left the Raptors, but I didnt wish for him to get this blood clot condition he has now. Don't wish injury/poor health on anyone.

it meant so much but now I,m going to screw ya bad. At the trade deadline he should of told them I,m going to leave for the highest bidder july first so trade me and get something back. This way he avoided playing in the playoffs and got the money. not cool and lost respect for sure
- bosman

He didn't sign with the highest bidder ..and was trying to get them(islanders) into the playoffs. .and he said that didn't have the intention of leaving til the last minute until he wayed all his options. .he had his last chance to play with his hometown team. While still young. .rather than at the end of his career. .you being upset doesn't change the fact. And I get it. It sucks having a good player. .or favorite? .leave. .but with brazy .winning the Calder ..the prospects the have. .the vets and the draft 2018 draft picks ..not to mention the 11mil cap they just saved..They'll be fine..and be in the playoffs this upcoming season IMHO

Islanders struggles include a point that you did not discuss. They have been dead last or close to the bottom in attendance in the NHL for several years. They are currently a team that is losing money. Wealthy but horrible owner Wang is gone - thankfully for this franchise - as is Garth Snow - who was (out of the blue) promoted to being GM of the organization, without any prior experience directly from being a not so great backup goalie. His moves included signing perhaps the worst contract in NHL history with Rick Dipietro. A cash poor franchise cannot afford to have incompetent ownership or management - to a greater extent than a rich team like for example the Rangers. Tavares made the right move - it might sting, but the Islanders are not ready to contend just yet. Can't think of many players in the NHL that are more classy than JT.

Nobody said differently. Just addressing the guy acting like Leaf's were bonzo within said timeframe.

There is no doubt that the Isles have faced horrible straits over the last several decades...

A lease deal with Nassau Coliseum that gave them NO $$$ and in 2000, NHL VP Bill Daly warned Nassau legislators that org would be in trouble via that deal.

Milbury burying org in a mess in years of poopty moves.

Charles Wang hiring Snow as he keeps team to cap floor until venue viability

Going to Brooklyn, leaving many LIers with no good way to get there.

Brooklyn falls apart, and now Belmont bound, which at least places them back in area.

JT leaves, as free agents are to do... though he could have been more clear to isles owners.

Isles owners (frank)ed up bigtime in not allowing him to be dealt at trade deadline when he wouldn't give a commitment.

No he didn't, but Karlsson did...

Lie to fans when he said multiple times (even after everything) that he wants to stay in Ottawa and finish his career here.

He did take it far enough, without proof to apply for an order of protection against Hoffman's gf (which has yet to be served, meaning that there was either no enough or no proof it was her), basically forcing Ottawa to get rid of Hoffman for nothing just to make Karlsson happy

He did say he would sign for what he was worth (same as Doughty) and then when it was offered to him he said no

He did negotiate with other teams about a possible extension with them. (even though the team allowed it, that basically states he has no intention of negotiating here)

He did back during the all-star game tell reporters that he would like to play with Hedman in Tampa and then again back peddle and say he meant Tampa has a great group but he loves Ottawa.

Like I said I don't like the ownership of the Sens, but it's not 100% his fault. Karlsson needs to take some ownership for himself as well.

- Maverick1818

Jaysus ..Karlsson took that dam team on his back .and guided them to one game away from the finals. .injured! ..then they get rid of his on ice partner and best friend off ice ..then low balled(slightly) him 10mil after doughty getting 11mil ..Mel doesn't want that contract on the books! ..anyways this is more about the organizations than John or Eric

He can, but its quite the transition being a second line center to first line center. Seeing all the teams best match ups is usually some kind of transition and growing pains. Well see, hell be good for a long time, but I dont think hell replicate the points he put up last year.

I really don't care what any NYI fan thinks about JT leaving for Toronto.
The fact of the matter is JT knew from the beginning that he wanted to be a leaf and the only way he would have remained an Islander was if Toronto for whatever reason didn't offer him a contract. And even then I'm not so sure he wouldn't have gone west.
Get over it.

So i guess his whole article is him lying again then huh? If all of you dopey Leafs fans were so sure he was going to Toronto why didn't you all make a fortune betting on it? Vegas had Toronto at +575 going into that weekend.

I guess none of you knew...

To the guy who said JT never waived his NMC.. He never had one.

To Everyone who said he never said he would STay. that is not just false it's false many many times over.. He said it constantly for years. "I want to remain an Islander for my career. My intention is to stay on the Island. I hope they don't trade me b/c I want to stay an Islander.

In Toronto last season... "Yeah. I was born in Toronto but when someone asks me where I'm from, I say Long Island. And I say it with authority."

The reason this decision was so hard for him is he knew he was going against his word. He knew he was doing the wrong thing. He has to live with that decision. Until that time he always said and did the "right thing".

I will give it a go then. We had a 20 year old rookie last season with more points than any leaf player has had for 20+ years!

Awesome Job!
And you never know. Maybe he'll even get you guys into the playoffs once or twice before he becomes a FA and leaves for the Nucks.

At the end of the day Tavares didnt owe anyone anything. He got paid to play for the Islanders and he did that. When he said he tried, he is talking about winning and making things work in NY. He had a limited no trade where he could specify 8 teams he doesnt want to be traded to. He was never asked to waive it either. Snow chose not to trade him.

Tavares like any other employee in the world took a look at his options and decided to take a job woth Toronto instead. Any hatred towards JT is purely saltiness about him leaving. He did not mislead anyone. He spoke with 5 teams and Isles were reported to be in the final 3. Isles had every chance at getting him back.
