He should at least make an arguement that makes sense. The past has literally nothing to do with the future in this instance like how many years did the cubs go and they (frank)ing won like what the hell does not being run well in the past have to do with moving forward ? They have 2 franchise caliber players now its hard to argue they wont have a real shot anytime in the next 3 years to win.

He's just jealous and that's the way of him expressing it.

Leafs are far from a garbage team right now, he knows it but for some reason since we haven't won a cup since 1967 they are garbage. Like that's relevant or something..

He never told them he was going to resign, otherwise he would have signed the goddamn contract extention months ago.

It was his right as a player to keep all his options open, including coming back to the Islanders.

They decided not to trade him and take the chance he'd come back. He didn't. End of story.

If I was an Islanders fan, I'd be much angrier at the team's management than John Tavares.

Yeah no need to bring God into this. I'm glad you knew what was going on between them. You must be one of Garf's insider.

It’s like 1983 was just (frank)ing yesterday!!!

It’s certainly been a quick three and half decades.

If I was a player I would take less money to go on a Stanley cup team. I would pic Washington Vegas Tampa Boston or Nashville. Those teams have a great chance of winning the cup. Leafs provide nothing they haven't won a round in 14 years. Arizona has a better chance of winning a round than the leafs I would pic them over the Leafs. When leafs win a round come talk to me. Until then they are a joke

You have a player, not a cup, so lets wait and see, might not be the Isles knocking you out, but you better hope E. K. don't end up in Tampa, or you might not ever see the finals.

Probably hasn’t occurred to you that maybe Tavares himself didn’t know until the off-season or when teams began their pitches? On maybe Lou completely botched the NYI pitch?

People sometimes change their mind. Opportunities sometimes present themselves out of nowhere. Didn’t think that would be hard to figure out.

- As_I_See_It

That is exactly what I heard. He wanted to stay but Lou completely butchered the pitch. Made JTs mind up for him.

Toronto currently reminds me of the early Penguins when Crosby first there. Overhyped due to amazing offense, but still weak at defense which is why it took them a while to really get past hype to be a true contender. I think Toronto is now at that juncture. Must shore up D and learn how to become a contender as opposed to just being a playoff team.

I get being upset about losing your franchise player for nothing but trying to trash the team he signed with, especially when they are clearly leaps and bounds better than the Isles is just a little juvenile don't you think?

JT just wanted out of that poophole.

Literally didn't care where just wanted out. Even picked the Leafs instead of staying with that debacle

Barzal is our Franchise player. 85 points in his rookie year. he had more points than JT. I see Barzal becoming a 100 point player this year or next. he is so fast and dynamic. he is a winner.

I heard that of no other team showed any interest he was just gonna retire.

Couldn't face pulling that jersey on one more time.

I have seen my team win the cup. I went to game 3 vs the oilers in 1983. How many Stanley cup games have you seen.

I get it, the NYI fans and organization are pissed and rightfully so. I’d be livid too if Matthews walked as a UFA, but seriously, name ONE thing the Islanders did during Tavares’ time there that would make him want to stay there? Name one and make a case for it.

This isn’t meant to be a slap in the face of NYI fans, it’s simply a brutally honest question.

^^ This question still hasn’t been answered by a single NYI fan. ^^

Yeah. I wasn't alive when the Islanders won the cup so I'm not allowed to count them. Same thing with the Leafs

Not being a fan of the Islanders and hating the Leafs I wasn't invested as some people. I thought JT pulled a scumbag move by not allowing a trade and then waiting until the end to sign kinda like a Lebron type sideshow but after reading that my mind has changed a little bit. The guy has a lot of class and I can see why he was the Captain of the team not just for his skill. I still don't like what he did but I do have a lot more respect for him...
- Mino42

Honestly it shows a lot about loyalty. The fact that he knew that he was going to sign with another team and didn't even ask for a trade so they could recoup assets. His 30+ goals are going to be hard to replace. Really not impressed by JVR these days.
