They'd have to clear waivers. As you said, with bad camps, there's more. Those are just the obvious.

I don't think there's any question they'd walk away from Okposo's deal right now, if they could.

- Lunaion

So then u think the Sabres will send him through waivers to see if another team will take his contract?

I’ll take that bet
There’s NO WAY we put Okposo through waivers

Baseball is by far the most boring sport. Pace is a big issue there and they're starting to see attendance/viewership suffer. I heard a stat that it takes about 3m 40s on average, for a ball to be put in play during the game outside of the pitcher and catcher. No idea if that's true, just heard on the radio, but sounds about right.

I do wish the NHL did more "fun" stuff. The All Star game for starters...mandatory Ice Girls could be the other.

- RhinoFan

I read about the same thing back in the day.. there's only ~3 minutes of actual action in a baseball game.

I used to be a producer for the Bisons... did a lot of napping during those innings waiting for the call sign to go to commercial break.

He's one of the worst players on the worst team. Maybe, maybe someone would claim him off waivers but I don't think there's a team that does Larsson for a pick
- jcragcrumple

Agree to disagree
Also,
That’s a secondary point to whether or not Botts would want to send him through waivers to begin with

Botts signed him to the 2yr deal,
not GMTM

Unless Larsson has a great camp, the only way he gets claimed is if someone has a rash of injuries and is desperate for a center. He really was that bad last year.

Never said anything close to that. They know no one will claim him and they aren't trying to bury him this year.

Won over 54.5% of his faceoffs in a highly defensive roll
That’s pretty good

I’m quite sure there’s teams that see him as an NHL player

U guys are basically saying that EVERY team would see him as an AHL guy

How do the KNOW no one would claim him?

You’re making A LOT of unsubstantiated assumptions here sir

And if the Sabres would be happy for someone to just take him off their hands...
why wouldn’t they put him through waivers to see?

And placing someone on waivers DOES NOT mean they actually have to be sent down (buried)

He might have been the worst regular in the NHL last year.

Agree to disagree i guess

Maybe u guys are right & we will send him through waivers

I’d be willing to bet he’s claimed if that happens

Also...
haven’t see any response to the fact that it was Botts who signed him (and Girgs) to their 2 year deals
So obviously he sees some value in them,
even though many on here just want to dump those guys

That’s all fair
I think some assume that he will just dump Girgs or Larsson through waivers though
I don’t see that happening
Botts signed them to TWO YEAR DEALS for a reason
And he QUALIFIED Bailey & Baptiste,
so i think it’s reasonable to assume he doesn’t want to lose them for nothing either

Thompson can be sent down without having to clear waivers
And Botts is HUGE on developing players in the AHL

We will see what happens...
but counting Thompson, we have 15 NHL forwards
Eichel, Mittelstadt, Okposo, Sheary, Reinhart, Berglund, Sobatka, Rodrigues, Pominville, Wilson, Larsson, Girgensons, Bailey, Baptiste... and Thompson

I know you’re aware of this...
just made the list for Luni,
since he thinks Moulson, Criscuolo & Porter should be counted for some reason

- jdfitz77

The Girgs and Larson deals were to help finish last.
Pretty simple too me.

Then explain why they were 2 year deals instead of just 1 year

There's still a full camp for things to play out.

Larsson was a decent player two years ago, and truly terrible player last year. Things change.

When did i say that?
I think we should do a lot of things...
but I’m not the GM

Botts signed him to a 2yr deal
I don’t think Botts thinks Larsson is as bad as you do

I think he's just trolling. His first defense of him was FO%, which is pretty funny if that's his goal.

If your insinuating that someone would claim okposo (for free) and botts hasn’t found that team yet and gave him away I would fire botts tomorrow. Okposo contract is an albatross and will just get worse.

No, I don’t think anyone would claim him. He’s a top 10 worse contract in the league.

If the Sabres would be happy with someone just taking that contract...
then there’s absolutely ZERO reason we shouldn’t place him on waivers to see if someone bites

Why wouldn’t we?

Pretty sure at LEAST 75% of the team was available at the deadline last year and im probably underestimating.
No bites. We sucked and most of our players sucked.
Including Larsson.

Your the one that said he would be claimed. He wouldn’t. No one wants him.

By you saying he would be claimed means some team would want him. If that’s the case Botts should of gave him away already. He hasn’t because no one wants him, so that dude is right, okposo can go through waivers and no one will claim him.

Yeah, but he wouldn't clear because he's not talented like Larsson likely would. He's still a productive player.
