Jan Levine: Kucherov no longer a possible option for NY, impact on Rangers' rebuild? Not a good one, as you can easily deduce

IF Panarin signed and we were able to aquire a RHD, I'm not sure we're too far off from contending.

Kreider Chytil Panarin
Buch Hayes Kratvsov
Nam Andersson Zucc
Vesey Howden Fast

Skjei Dumba (used as an example traded for Zib+)
Smith Shattenkirk
Hajek/Staal Pionk

This presumes the growth in the younger players and the rookies contributing.

Wow, so much complaining about the tax advantages in Tampa. How about the endorsement opportunities large markets provide? The Leafs brought out the whole dog and pony show with sponsors when they tried to lure Stamkos away from the Lightning. You can’t regulate everything to be completely equal.

Not really comparable. The cap hit ties directly into the Cba and part of his nhl contract. This can be regulated on the next agreement. Endorsement are 3rd party where the NHL and Nhlpa have little power over

Wasn't complaining, so much as highlighting that disparity exists. As mentioned in comments, tax impact can be regulated by CBA, endorsements cannot. Plus, as we have seen, superstars will get endorsements regardless of where they live. More so in NBA than NHL, but still can have national endorsements even if not in "major" market.

Why trade Zib? Do you realize he had same amount of goals, in 8 less games, than Stamkos? Maybe if he was on the top scoring team he’d have all those extra assists. I think Rangers where 10th or 11Th worst in goals for.

Sorry Jan, but there's a clear error in the 9,500,000 earnings chart.

Ottawa doesn't do that.

Ok, I'll read the rest now.

One of my biggest complaints about the NYR management over the last few years is resigning. They need to stop waiting until a player is about to finish their contract to resign them. Stevey Y signed most of those years the summer before they were to become an xFA and it probably saved him millions in cap space. Signing when you're up against a deadline leaves no room for negotiation and I can't honestly remember the last player the rangers signed the year before they were due.

Was him coming to the NYR an actual possibility cuz I haven't seen it on anywhere besides on here? To me that would be a loss for the TBL to give up NK straight up for EK65 let alone after all the picks and prospects they would be losing to make a 3 team deal work.

Was a potential option for New York, dependent on if he signed long term in Tampa or just played 2019-20 on a one year deal as an RFA to become a UFA. Obviously, no longer a concern any more.

Another potential issue is the player having that unresolved contract hanging over his head during the season. Will I be re-signed or traded, how will negotiations go? That can impact what happens on the ice. Look at Zucc last season, he was a bundle of nerves until the TDL. Not saying that goes for every player, some use that tension to play harder.

Just a comment on Kovi...

Didn't realize he was moved from 1st line to 4th line after a players meeting during Olympics.
NHLXM was just discussing it. Craig Button was saying that LA might regret signing him big time.

Maybe NYR dodged a bullet?

As a lifelone NY'er I have to agree with LJBoltsfan
The big market teams offer players chances to make ancillary income off the ice. The tax difference is not a loophole, nor are endorsement deals, there are pros and cons to every market (taxes, cost of living, endorsements, etc). Each market has its own.
What about all the years that Florida was an undesirable place to play because the fanbase wasn't there yet?

If Tampa sucked and was paying a bunch of guys more than other teams nobody would be complaining, its only now that they are competitive that people want to talk about it.

Nobody is complaining about the Panthers.... Texas and Vegas also have no personal income taxes. Pennsylvania has the 10th lowest tax rate (slighlty more than 3%), Tennessee is also extremely favorable.

So is this the official year two of the rebuild ? Im just a little confused as to how much is exoected to change in 365 days that makes panarin want to sign here. This has nothing to do with nj so dont attack me for being a devils fan just curious and looking for some hockey talk. Obviously the rangers have been an attractive ufa destination forever but if this is for sure a rebuild season and more nhl players are to be moved out making the nhl squad weaker then whats getting him excited to sign here ? Money and location is that really it or that he 2-3 years if developed properly he will have some guys to play with ?

Im just havung trouble because it seems you guys think they will some how be able to pull everything off ( rebuilding, contending and signing the top free agents all at once )
