Karlsson is very good. He's not generational.

Doughty is better
Burns and Subban are arguably just as good.

When I think generational defenceman names like Nicklas Lidstrom, Scott Neidermeyer, Ray Bourque, Chris Chelios, and Bobby Orr come to mind.

Not Erik Karlsson

One of these things is not like the others...

Chris Chelios = an overrated dirtbag, who always had one player on defense better than he was on his team. Other than that, I agree with what you wrote.

Fair enough, Chelios may not deserve to be on that list but he did win 3 Norris trophies.

My point was that although Karlsson is very good, he is not generational. That is a word used to describe players too much these days.

Besides the obvious and the fact that you are likely just trolling (Chelios?!?) just curious what you base those opinions on?
- wilkobecks

I'm not trolling.

"Generational" is a term used too widely these days.

What exactly about Karlsson makes him generational instead of just very good?

I believe all of the names I listed have won multiple cups, multiple Norris trophies, and even the Hart/Art Ross trophy. Karlsson has won 2 Norris trophies and what else exactly?

As is your obviously well thought out response.

I may not have thrown Chelios in that list

I get the rest of his point though. We have all had a lot of years to watch Karlsson and some people feel he is a below average defensive defenseman who plays more like a 4th forward.

Clearly Ottawa fans don't want to hear it, but it isn't trolling to have that opinion.

Fair enough, maybe Chelios doesn't cut it.

IMO he was a better D man than Karlsson though.

I'm thinking no deal is done until EK comes back from Scotland, so probably another week at least.

You're defending Chelios as a "generational" defenceman for winning 3 Norris trophies across 27 seasons and 1650 games. Erik Karlsson won 2, and finished as the runner-up twice before he even hit 600 games
