Imagine if shero can somehow pry kucherov lol.. if shero can pick up a nhl player from tampa, i hope its johnson or point.. for being a undersized nhl player, tyler can put some goals in net. 107 goals in the past 5 years , and being right handed, can probably play some rw as well if needed .. would be nice to have him and johansson on the same line

Shero is an awesome GM, but he is truly great at prying more than what a team may be initially wanting to give up (i.e., Hall for Larsson) or at finding solid talent in bad situations (i.e., Neal). I do not think that he's looking at a C though. My guess is that Nico Hischier could play with Hall, and they have Zajac as a decent #2 for now since in reality NJ isn't ready to contend for cup. He's going to look to build a foundation, and he needs young W, D and G. So, my guess is that he'd target Cal Foote or Taylor Raddysh, and would be willing to take on money to make it happen. He'll need something from both teams to take on bad contracts, so if he plays it right, I think he could make an awesome deal....

I could see:
OTT: Sergachev, TB 2nd round pick
TB: Karlsson
NJ: Callahan, Foote/Raddysh, Karlsson $3.5mil salary this year, Ryan, Filip Gustavsson, OTT 3rd rnd in 2019 (or 2nd in 2020)

Essentially, Karlsson for Sergachev and a 2nd. To take Callahan contract AND $3.5mil of Karlsson this year, it will cost Foote (so TB will actually FREE about $2.5-3mil cap space THIS year by making this trade - maybe to sign Nash). NJ Takes on Ryan contract but it will cost Gustavsson and a upper pick.

Miller literally just signed a five-year extension so I doubt he's going anywhere. How are the Devils getting Granlund from the Wild, who want to contend for the Stanley Cup, in this scenario?

I mentioned them but the only realistic one is johnson.... would add some nice secondary scoring to the devils

Even Johnson is a bit far fetched. Our role in all this is to take on cap space and get some incentives to do it. All of tampa's high value assets are going to ottawa.

I really dont think so bro... with johnson i mean.. yes the prospects and picks will be going Ottawa’s way but tampa needs to remove cap. If this trade does happen, karlsoon would be payed 11-12 mil a year.. i dont think its a reach to ask for johnson and taking callahan or ryan contract. The hurdle here would be get both johnson and callahan/ i think... to waive there NTC

Agreed - but I think NJ will leverage this to the limits to try and get a couple of top prospects by taking on a lot of cap (see my above post where they take on Callahan, Ryan AND $3.5mil of Karlsson this year)...said differently, Shero will definitely see this as an opportunity...

we're going to end up with Palat, Callahan, and a 2nd round draft pick and we'll all be sad.

I'd want a lot more than that to take on 15 million of dead space. And I think Ottawa will want more than 2 assets for Karlsson.

OTT would have to take less in order to offload Ryan, plus Sergachev looks REALLY good. He's one of the top young D in the league already.

Foote is probably TBs top D prospect (aside from Sergachev), and Gustavson is probably OTTs best G prospect. Both are among the top in the league as well, about 2 years away from NHL time. $15mil in space isn't much, and I think Ryan would be reinvigorated playing top mins in NJ with Hall and Nico.

At the end of the day NJ will have to compete with Vegas playing this role, so they can't completely fleece either team...

If this plays out with Karlsson going to Tampa and say the Devils taking Callahan the Lightning can only give the Devils a Katchouk/Raddysh prospect with Callahan.

The Lightning cannot give up a roster player to the Devils because honestly if they get Karlsson this year is their best chance to win the cup as the following year tough decisions would need to be made so they need to ice the best team and that is keeping all their roster players.

EDIT: No Ryan contract is involved in my scenario. If Ottawa wants to include Ryans contract I have no idea how it can happen for Tampa.

They still get paid in real dollars and it effects our flexibility going forward. We'd have very little room to sign free agents or add in trades so we'd be banking on progressing by only adding within. Also, Bobby Ryan wouldn't go near our top line.

Tampa gets off light in your trade. They add the best Dman in the league and get rid of a poop contract and only have to give up 2 yound players and a 2nd round pick. The blues just paid more for O'reilly.

If the Devils are going to take cap back, be it Callahan, Ryan or both, why not just cut the middleman out(TB) and take Ryan with a decreased price on Karlsson?

Severson, Bastian, NJ 2019 1st(protected), and NJ 2020 2nd for Karlsson and Ryan

I know some changes can be made, but why are the Devils not just going for Karlsson when we might have to take Ryan and Callahan?

Karlsson said he'll sign extension with Tampa, he prob doesnt want to be in NJ AND Shero is still in rebuild/gathering assets mode. What better way to get top young talent than to eat contracts that will expire in 1-2 yrs. Id love Karlsson, but in the long run and for a better well rounded team Shero is playing it perfectly (assuming things work out like he hopes)

TB loses 2 of the top D prospects in the league and a 2nd rounder for a top D, who everybody knows is going to be traded and who will only sign to very few specific teams. These last caveats limit significantly who can actually trade for him, and hence what they will pay. If this was totally under the radar, Karlsson signed for at least 3-4 more years, etc then it would be a MUCH MUCH bigger deal.

I think ROR deal was not close to as good as this (2 3rd/4th liners, a B+ prospect and a pick), PLUS he could have gone to a variety of places and there were no contract signing concerns.

Tyler Johnson has 6 (palat has 4), they put up similar points, Palat had better advanced stats. What makes Johnson so coveted but Palat terrible?
