I doubt NJ would have to take on Coburn for Johnson. It'd have to be Callahan and that pesky extra year. TB really needs the cap space next year more than this year.

Perhaps:

TB: Karlsson
OTT: Sergachev
NJ: Ryan, Coburn (to eat his 3.7mil salary for this year) or Callahan (5.8 for next 2 years, TB may need to add another prospect/pick though), 1st from TB?

I'm sure I'm reading this wrong but youre not suggesting that the devils just accept a pick or Callahan without Johnson being involved right ?

This is awful for the Devils. Two terrible contracts and a likely super late 1st round pick.

Also the Lightning probably can't trade their '19 first because if they win the Cup it goes to the Rangers.

I'd take on Coburn if it nets Johnson, and doesn't require an overpay. We could use a LHD with some toughness, and it's only a year. I wouldn't mind that at all. Johnson seems to fit the bill of speed and skill, and his contract term is something you have to figure Shero is drawn to. I'd like to see this happen...

Johnson, Cally and a second. Cally for two years isn't bad. Would provide good leadership . And he'll get injured so his salary wont go against cap when on IR.

They need tons of $$ to sign Kuch so we can rape them.

And I must confess, when Cally was on the rags I really wished he were with us instead.

Not sure why folks think that TJ is a defensive liability. He's a great penalty killer (a real threat for shortys) and is positionaly sound. He can have some trouble with power forwards due to his size, but it isn't for a lack of determination or commitment to his own end.

I really hope we don’t add Callahan. Was never a fan of his, he’s in steep decline and a (frank)ing Rag. No thanks

Boyle is whispering into Shero's ear about getting his best bud. "Ray, Ryan completes me."

I’d make a move for him for sure. I just don’t want anything to do with any trade that lands Bobby Ryan in NJ.

It's basically, NJ getting a 1st for taking on salary and Ryan...I think Ryan could do well though on top line mins with Hall. Maybe they get Gourde or other prospect(s) from TB...but on the OTT side, I think getting Sergachev would be exactly what they need.

Bobby Ryan is 31, has 4 years left at 7 mil per and has a whopping total of 58 points combined over the past two years, and he’s a Flyers fan. Hard pass.

I'm pretty sure once you're drafted, and definitely after 11 seasons in the league" you drop your "fan" status. But for the other points you bring up I agree it's a tough sell. The contract is absolutely brutal and even if Shero does think he'd fit in he better be getting back some good assets to take that type of gamble and provide OTT that type of relief.

Would love to Add Johnson to the Devils he could be a perfect 2nd line center which would allow Hynes to move Zacha to the wing and Zajac can Center the third line would definitely improve our roster even if we have to take Callahan we could put him in the bottom 6 when he’s healthy hope Shero can make this happen

LOL WHAT ABOUT WHAT WE NEED mventres, bloody hell it's nice to know you care. Karlsson something for Tampa fans to get excited about, Segachev something for Sens fans to get excited about, Devils Ryan Callahan, cause where all buying his shirt , and a first round pick from Tampa is basically a second, yippy.

I doubt the Devs get far in this discussion. No way TB wants to help improve a team in their division where they can get the cap help elsewhere, only perhaps the Rags because they should be awful...so that is how I see this play out.

Except every team has their own blueprint going forward. Not every team wants/is able to take on extra cap, or they would need to shuffle on their end. They have a plan in place like Shero does.

Well the devils aren’t in their division but they are in their conference if that’s what you meant and there aren’t many teams in the west with cap space

I'd be happy to add Girardi or Coburn and a draft pick to aid tampa in this transaction. But absolutely not Bobby Ryan unless they retain 2M AAV. 7.25M for each of the next 4 seasons is way to much, especially if we want to retain Hall,Palms,Vats down the road.

Johnson has value, so if TB were pawning off salary, that means we are losing more picks or players. He's a legit 2nd C (not that we need more Cs, but if we get him, we might swing a deal with another team from abundance). I'm guessing the discount price would still be Joey Anderson.

I think with NJ's cap space, they might be looking to get more assets or prospects. For example, taking on Ryan's contract, or Callahan's contract, who both have insane negative value, especially Ryan's, can get them picks or prospects at basically the cost of money. Shero's probably seeing what he can get.

The only thing I don't want NJ to do is trade for someone at negative value as if he has positive value. Shero isn't that stupid, though.

This division stuff depends on the GM. You "don't want" to do it, but if you have no other choice, you do it. Ottawa likely doesn't expect to compete next year, so they're looking at best deal possible. When they traded Hoffman away for magic beans, they probably expected to have a chance to retain Karlsson.

If the Lightning are offering you a better prospect than the other guys, you take it. I already get the sense that the Stars and Knights are not giving Ottawa an ace prospect and the Lightning might be.

Have seen a few reports stating that Ottawa wants Ryan included in the Karlsson trade if that’s the case Shero should stay away unless Ottawa retains some salary and we get Johnson without having to give up much that Ryan contract is garbage
