Makes sense.

Stevie Y is going all in. There are ways to do this,

The trade itself could be:

To OTT: Taylor Raddysh, Cal Foote, 1st
To Buff: Tyler Johnson, Ryan Callahan, Slater Koekkoek (I believe they have the cap space for this? Pretty sure they have 13m left)
To TB: Erik Karlsson, Buff 7th round draft pick in 2056 (or before).

A huge payment to make it happen re: trading futures? Yep. Insanely yuge. But... frig...

Hedman
Karlsson
McDonagh
Sergachev

Your top 4 for the next half decade+ on a team with loads of scoring depth and a very good young goalie... dayum...

In fairness, my parents tried to raise me a Leafs fan. I jumped ship in '98. It's been a fine time, since.

For taking Callys salary. The salary dump is badly needed to make this work.

Like I said, it's not pretty... and probably an overpay on many aspects from TB... but I'd rather think in terms of overpays than underpays.

You would think that Ottawa would value rosterplayers like TJ, Callahan (meh, you can atleast hope) and Koekkoek. They need to be somewhat competetive next year.

But i dont think there is any way we can get EK without giving up Serg, Point or Vasy (as have been discussed among Eklunds sources aka twitter). We can give them our first next year even.

If Serg has to go for Karlsson to come to tampa, then so be it.

Why the Sabres would even do this is beyond me. Seems like a lot of money to take on just so Tampa can afford Karlson.

Tyler Johnson is really good.

Buffalo can send back Pominville or Bogosian to Ottawa (For Cap purposes to get them to the floor)

Buffalo has no need for another center in Tyler Johnson. Understand the need to take cap with Callahan. Like the idea of Koekkoek as a young d coming in the trade. Would prefer Brayden Point and either Girardi or Coburn to make up the cap difference for Johnson.

Callahan we could maybe keep up for this year and then send him home (pronounced bury him) to Rochester for his final year.

As far as your D-line then... Holy Crap it would be great.

Wouldn't want to play them, and Vassy would be getting the Vezina for the next 5 years.

But probably not gonna happen, I am guessing Dallas, and not through Buffalo.

Point would be a tough sell. The kid has the potential in the Bergeron mold (key word: potential).

Johnson is a damned good player. Great on the PK, can play multiple roles on the PP and is clutch. He's tiny, but feisty.

Not saying this is 100% the way it WILL go... but TJ is a damned good piece with loads of playoff experience (and still young).

Um, yes they do. It would shelter Middlestadt minutes for this year and allow him to shifT to wing for a few games.

It would push Berglund down to line three, where he belongs with Callahan and Sobodka on his wings.

Doubt TJ would move his no trade clause to go to Ottawa. A three way trade could make sense though. Yzerman definitely wont trade Point, and I dont think he's going to give up Sergachev if he can get Karlsson with other pieces. I think Foote, and Raddysh or Katchouk would be a good start, but we would obviously need to add more to that.

Pretty sure there’s quite a few GMs with cap space that would be willing to take on Callahan’s contract if it meant getting Tyler Johnson and Koekkoek and only giving up a late round pick.
