1) I checked you're twitter Todd, Thank you hopefully football is coming home

2) did we poop the bed in this free agency, because we also lost McDonald.

3) now can we push the panic button, cause most people are saying Carolina and Florida are better than us.

Coleman needs to prove himself again this season before asking for more money.

I just read players are gearing up for another lockout, what a surprise. Thats why most of these contracts are all signing bonuses.

He’s arbitration eligible, so he can ask whatever he wants. He’s a 26 year old that just got his first real shot last year. This is probably more about trying to coax a year or two more term out of the Devils than they were offering. These things rarely make it all the way to arbitration so it’s likely they will find a compromise before then.

He is such a team first guy, his right is to file, probably a formality anyway. With all the stupid contracts being handed out I think its a non issue. He is our Parise without the skill, the engine that keeps going.

Coleman's salary last year was actually slightly LESS the he made the previous two years according to Capfriendly.com. He made $ 660,000 on a two way deal. Noesen, Wood and Santini are also RFAs.

Ray probably wants to keep him on a 1 year deal. Coleman likely wants 2 years and of course a one way contract.

anyone else feel like we're worse than last year? Greene, Lovejoy, Zajac, Boyle will all be slower and worse.. and it's not like they won't get ice time. We're banking on Zacha, Severson, Butcher, and the kids to all take steps forward.

top 10 pick, a year late.. but here we come anyways!

I do not. Shero knows a competitive team is key to resign Hall, be patient my friend.

Ray is pretty shrewd but it's disappointing to see him get shut out here.

I mean we lost DeHann to Carolina?! and not a word about Patrick Maroon. It's just been a big zero.

I mean we know Cory is expected to miss the start of the season and our goalies are Kink and Lack? I mean Lack might have been a fair return for Prout but seriously?! Lehner signed for $ 1.5M and at least he looks like an NHL player.

I think its good he isn't overpaying for C-B level players. There are a slew of great (potential) FA coming up, Seguin and such...

I feel he shouldn't do anything crazy, like overpaying, until Hall and Nico are locked up.

If the team decided right now to pay Hall and Nico BOTH the same $ 11M each that John Tavares just got from Toronto we'd still have $8M in cap space.

By the time we actually do need to pay Hall that kind of money we will be done with Andy Greene's $ 5M a year contract. The year after we'll be done with Zajac's $5.75M contract. Not to mention Nico is an RFA and won't be seeing that type of money in two more years when he'll need a new contract.

The big names like Sequin usually don't make it to market and aren't likely to pick NJ as their destination if they do. So I sure wouldn't hold out hope for that. DeHann was signed by Carolina for a little more then we are paying Severson. Not cheap but not crazy money.

I don't want to see Shero do anything crazy or wasteful either but I don't want to see guys like Stafford and Hayes in camp either.

Some of this may be the ownership group. Vanderbeek pretty much let Lou spend right to the cap, and if some rumors are true even pushed him to hand out contracts Lou may not have wanted to (Kovy). Devils weren’t in great financial shape when they took over and have been bottom 3 or 4 in actual payroll each year. No one knows what kind of budget Ray is working with, he may be limited on spend until the big $ Hall extension happens.

Everybody complained about Lou signing old bad players for too much money and that we should try to build our team through the draft. Now that we're doing that, you're complaining that they didn't sign old bad players for too much money. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Well in those peoples defense, we were in win mode then, so im sure there was a want/need for those older guys. It wasn't until Shero the rebuild happened.

DeHann is 27. Tavares is 27. Maroon is 30.

That's hardly Ryder at 33, Zids at 36, Zubs at 35, Jagr at 41 and Salvador at 37.

You can build thru the draft and trades and still pick up a couple of good pieces in free agency.

You act as if since deHaan signed in Carolina that means that they didn't try to sign him at all or didn't want him. Then making this leap that means they aren't trying to improve the team, or whatever.

We were never going to get Tavares, we didn't get deHaan, Maroon is still unsigned. So how many free agents are actually out there that are good that we missed on. Because it doesn't look like any.

We signed Lack and Gryba for (frank) sack. Both 30 years old and poopty.

We aren't even rumored to be in on most folks.

Does that look like we're trying to improve the team?

You don't think Stasny, JVR, Reider or Perron could help this team? Admittedly Stasny got too much money.....

Depth signings isn't a problem, every team does that. There is nothing to complain about there.

Stasny overpaid, Reider is bad who cares, Perron is not good, JVR got paid off of his best season ever. He's good but still overpaid, plus do you think he was going to sign with us over Philly anyway?

Per Capfriendly no signing or performance bonuses. It is a one way contract.

We really couldn't offer more than league freaking minimum for Duclair? I'm all for standing pat generally, but buying low on talented players is exactly what we should be doing.

Several of you seem to be under the illusion that if you don't make big offseason moves, you get worse. Nashville says hi.

Basically ten teams made headlines with high draft picks and high profile FA signings and trades.

NJ has had a "quiet" offseason, that doesn't mean they don't have a pipeline going.

The only team I see get "that much" better in this offseason in St. Louis. Philly is a fair bit better. Buffalo is obviously going to be improved with Dahlin (but tbh they kinda lost the trade with StL). Other than that, some teams got a "little" better with the FAs, but not a whole lot. Toronto took two steps forward getting JT, and two steps backwards losing Bozak and JvR.
