He could have privately told Isles management his intentions, and helped them get the most for his rights, or as a sign and trade. He didn’t, drug it out til the last second, then headed north to TO. For that, I’d wait til he had his down, and make him pay for it. All he had to do was be honorable. He wasn’t. And by the way, Snow really crapped the bed. Better off w Uncle Lou.

Why ??? Cause he followed his heart. I've been an Isles fan since '78, and don't blame JT for a second. Look what he went through with this team/management. He was a class act for 9 years with us !!! Our horrible owner/management did nothing.

I respect your maturity. Not easy to calmly look at something like this. Sure in theory you could have asked him to do even more. I think at best he could have made a decision earlier than he did so the Islanders could have an earlier heads up. But I think someone wanting to take as much time as they need to decide their future is reasonable.

Best case for the Islanders probably would have been at the deadline saying "sorry but we'll move you to a team not on your no-trade list because we can't afford to wait and possibly lose you for nothing." But that's on Snow and perhaps ownership for not taking the situation seriously enough. If things get to that point and you are not currently in as good a situation as say Tampa a few years ago, the risk is too high.

Luckily it isn't as if the Islanders are doomed here. Barzal is amazing. Just had a strong draft and can aim for the future. It's never a good situation to have a star player leave. There is good still there though. But obviously doesn't mean much coming from me.

I’ll take your word for it on the American Dollars thing. However, the cost of living is still much higher, and a sign and trade would have given the Leafs an extra year, but more importantly some assets back to the Isles. The main point was, he screwed the Isles who have been nothing but straight up w him. He knew what he was doing. That just annoys me.

Some “hockey guy” you are. You make comments without knowing anything
All NHL contracts are in USD
Taxes? Sure. But taxes are very high in California and NY too
Sign and trade? Please tell me the last sign and trade deal in the NHL? It is not a thing
How do you know the Isles have been “nothing but straight up with him”? The franchise has been a joke for years. Now they won’t have their own arena for 3-4 more years
Why is Tavares obligated to ensure the isles receive compensation during the free agent process? He was a UFA not an RFA.
It reminds me of the time the Raptors lost Chris Bosh to free agency. They had been nothing but good to him but he still left. That was his prerogative.
