Anyone else feel like the price tags for Couture, Kane, and especially Hertl, are way too high??

$5.6M per season for Hertl??

cost of doing business and in a few years, will seem like a steal....only Kane is questionable but a new full year in SJ< could net him 60-70 pts. 7 mil seems to be the going rate for that production.

Being a leaf fan, future looks bright but I really like SJ as well.
Pav's/Couture/Thornton/Kane/Hertl/Meier/Donks/Karlsson/Burns/Vlasic/Jones/etc.

Love this team. Win now mode for sure

JT in going to TOR saved the Sharks from themselves. 13M for one player not named Thorton is a contract that would have bit Wilson et al in the keester big time. The money saved can afford the Sharks some dough to buy the parts needed to fill out the roster. SJ has long been a one line team that relied too much on the PP in the regular season resulting in early exits in the playoffs where PPs are not as plentiful. Kind of like Vancouver only better because Jumbo Joe and more recently Pavelski made them better. With Jones the goaltending is good enough to go deep, but JT wouldn't make the Sharks better as much as he would have cap strapped them. A great trade that never happened. Lets see how TOR manages their cap with an albatross contract going down the road for 7 years.

I don't see adding Tavares as getting them "over the hump". The sharks haven't exactly had a shortage of elite centers. Not to say it would have been fruitless, but this wouldn't be all that new of a concept to the team.

There are many very interesting young players to watch in the developmental camp and I hope there is an extensive written review of the top impressive players.

Seriously? You think JT is an "albatross" contract?? SJ signed Logan Couture for 8 years, at an AAV of just $3M less than Tavares. Logan Couture isn't even in the same stratosphere as JT

Would you rather have Tavares + Kadri for $15M, or Couture + Kane for $15M?

Leafs will be fine...

DW did good after losing out on Tavares.

Kurz was bummed writing that he figures the Sharks are a bubble team...I disagree. They'll be fighting for the division and should make a deep run next year. And a lot of cap space to improve if the opportunity presents itself. It might come down to trade deadline.

Do not want Karlsson. Trade a bunch of prospects then need to pay 10 mil for 7 or 8 years.
Be nice to sign Rick Nash if he wants to keep going on a somewhat team friendly deal and maybe an established 4th liner.

Nash is too slow. If theres one thing we can take from the vegas matchup, speed won. Only reason we crushed the ducks is because they're that much slower

Put it this way. I'd rather pay $15m for Kane and Couture than $17.6M for Tavares and Marleau ... if you want to discuss top paid forwards on each team

Well I think he was referencing term as well. Marleau is not much of an issue in that regard

It's funny how people from the East underrate Couture. Great contract for a great player.

Really?? I think most people would disagree with you on that one

JT and Marleau combined for 131 points last year. Kane and Couture combined for 115

And we only have Marleau for one more year. Which is why we overpaid on AAV

I'd rather pay Kronwall and DeKeyser 10 million than Matthews and Marner 2 million.

Even with the baggage, I kind of wished we held on to Hoffman, especially since DW paid so little and the cap hit was good.

To each their own. Just telling you i'd personally prefer couture and kane over those two.
I wish the sharks would have landed tavares ... that said - i would not have wanted to pay him $13m/yr. I think thats way too much. Especially considering what mcdavid is getting.

No argument there. I don't think he's underrated by many tbh

I think we're good on C for this season. Would have been nice to get Tavares but it wasn't meant to be. We'll get another big fish sometime. I think for this season we just need to grab one more impact winger.. whether that's trading for Skinner, grabbing someone like Maroon.. I don't know. One more piece and we could have 4 legit scoring lines.

To Steve Palumbo:
If not you, I really would love to read some professional reaction to so,e of these young kids in the development. Some have extremely impressive last couple seasons although in minors. I am intrigued to see if Merkley was worth the first round pick. He needs to grow up but the existing Sharks players can take care of his attitude very quickly. I’d love to see act up around Jumbo and Burns!
Names I wanna hear more about
Suomela, Letunov, Halbgewachs,Chmelevski, Chekovich, Helewaka, Gatenby, Gregoire plus progress of Norris and Gambrell. I was not overly impressed with Norris and his first year at Michigan and I know Gambrell was a terrific set up Center for Denver so perhaps he can slip into a future bottom six center?
All and anybody who gets down to the scrimmage tomorrow and or game on Friday please feel free to comment on any of the players. I can’t get down for either.

SJ should be returning its exact top 7 this year as last year:

Vlasic - Braun
Burns - Ryan
Dillon - DeMelo (UFA they didn't qualify b/c Tavares but will likely sing now)

Tim Heed - He should be in the 3rd par anyways. He led AHL D in scoring two season ago

Paul Maritn was the 8th Dman and spent most of the season injured/in the minors.

Look forward to Steve and anyone else’s take on this Friday night scrimmage/game of the prospects.
Saw Wilso was pretty quick to sign Kotkov today who looks like a great prospect on paper.
What I really want is any Sharks fan take on tonight’s game and who to really watch.
Thanks
