He cooperated and served jail time and completed whatever else comes with that (community service or counseling or whatever idk). He has been deemed fit for society. He could apply to a non-sports job and get that, why can't he "apply" for a sports one too?

Mike Vick is a splendid example of what could happen when a person with a platform (which Voynov would have playing in the NHL) realizes the error of his ways. No reason he shouldn't be able to play again.

Actually if the original record from the state is cleared the Feds don't really have a reason to deny him entry. I don't care either way if he plays for the Kings or another NHL team but he's proven that it was an isolated incident and his wife is still with him so who are we to judge him especially if he no longer has a record? Especially since the league had no issue with allowing Heatley back into the league for vehicular manslaughter.

Also kind of hypocritical for the LA Kings to allow Stoll back after his plea deal

You understand he isn't the only one to ever do this that is playing in the NHL right? Austin Watson just got picked up for it last month and I don't see many of you outraged calling for him to be kicked outta the league. He did his time and US courts agree. Move along internet hero's...

He's a PP QB and that's it.

His scoring in the KHL is mostly pp and he sucks 5v5

Lou Gherig hit Marilyn Monroe and was nothing back then and the guy is STILL in the HOF. Sport difference aside.

Guy did the crime, sucked it up, got help, did his time, and now has to move on with life. IF he can play and get into the states where most of the games are played then so be it. Nobody is condoning his actions, but he paid for it huge already and time to move on from it. Fact his wife stood by him, he got help, and they are still together also says something there.

Bottom line, he will get back in the NHL. Many fans will hate him, be appalled by him getting back in. ESPN will finally give the NHL some coverage and sit on top of their self righteous throne and bash the NHL’s policy. However, the story will go away after once people get their fix of outrage and will eventually love him when he scores for their team.

What he did was sickening but give the guy a second chance. Put him on a tight rope, telling him, One more incident and you're banned.

There's a big difference between making a mistake and beating your wife within inches of her life. Imagine that happening to your sister or mother. Voynov doesn't need to be in the NHL to get his life on track, he's making millions in the KHL. I hope the league refuses to allow him back in. Comparing Giroux and Kane's incidents to what Voynov did is ridiculous.

Why? I'm certainly not condoning what he did, but our society habitually forgives people for things like this and worse. I like to think people are mainly good, sometimes screw up, but in general deserve a second chance. We've all made some very bad decisions at times in our lives that we were forgiven for, so lets stop with the holier than thou attitude and perhaps give the guy another chance?

Within inches of her life is not even close to accurate. She did have to get stitches but there are pictures of her after the incident. For sure it was bad, I also think maybe it's a good idea they say no but lets not make it something it isn't. He committed a crime and brought violence on his wife, which is terrible. No court in the world would have seen the injuries as life threatening or attempted murder.

LA being freed of that caphit was a life saver for them (not to mention the way the Richards' contract situation was dealt with).
LA would have needed to deal away at least 1 key player if they had 1, let alone both contracts fully on their caphit.
LA was given a free pass by the league on both those cases, and definitely do not deserve to get an additional return on top of that - even if it's 'just a 7th round pick'.

This is 2018 and senses and sensitivity towards violence against women has and will continue to evolve. Great, he’s paid his societal debt. That doesn’t mean an employer has to hire him. Citing the crimes of other athletes doesn’t validate his actions, it shows why there should be zero tolerance no matter who you are.

The same would apply to another team if they had a player do the same thing and go through the same type of process. Stop being a damn cry baby. Teams retain rights to players in all sorts of situations.

If Voynov would have stuck around after his conviction and avoided deportation somehow, then yes, I would agree that he probably should have remained suspended and his contract remained on the books (under LTIR rules as the league allowed back in 2015). If the Kings then terminated his contract due to ethics, then they shouldn't have retained his rights.

However, Voynov didn't wait for the immigration hearing and voluntarily left the country, abandoning his contract. The Kings terminated his contract due to his being unavailable to play. He was listed in the NHL as a "voluntarily retired" player, just like Kovalchuk was when he left for the KHL in the middle of his contract.

If Kovy returned to the NHL prior to age 35, New Jersey would have retained his exclusive rights for a year. The same should go for Voynov. If he wants to return to the NHL, the Kings should retain his rights for a year. They can choose to re-sign him or trade his rights in return for compensation.
