They will likely only get a 2nd rounder, maybe, unless they involve more players. But the Kings need to restock their cupboard so better than nothing. |

How can the Kings Trade him? His Contract was terminated, He isn't LA property anymore. - dean98setter
It wasn't terminated, because he left for Russia, no longer necessitating a termination.

The Kings announced Wednesday that they had planned to terminate the final four seasons of Voynov's contract Thursday when they open training camp, saying Voynov will never play for them again. The club says the termination is no longer necessary because Voynov's departure for Russia should eliminate their obligation to pay the $19.25 million US left on his deal. |

That post was from 2015, when they terminated his contract. But I did just find that they still own his rights. |

The Kings "terminated" Voynov's contract on Sept. 17, 2015, but Voynov is technically on Los Angeles' voluntary retirement list. The team retains his rights. According to NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly, the Kings have the ability to trade those rights if they choose. |

When Voynov was arrested, he was suspended indefinitely. He ultimately pleaded no contest, served his jail sentence (60 days) and completed his counseling program. In order to avoid deportation proceedings which are common for certain immigrants, he voluntarily left the country and forfeited his citizenship status, which he will have to reapply for if the courts clear his record. So still more hoops to jump through. If he gets the opportunity, Voynov should be allowed to play IMO. He has served his sentence, paid his debt and is still with his wife. Banning him for life doesn’t help his personal situation or his wife’s. |

Bad message if anyone signs him - thebigjoe
Why? I'm certainly not condoning what he did, but our society habitually forgives people for things like this and worse. I like to think people are mainly good, sometimes screw up, but in general deserve a second chance. We've all made some very bad decisions at times in our lives that we were forgiven for, so lets stop with the holier than thou attitude and perhaps give the guy another chance?

Bottom line, he will get back in the NHL. Many fans will hate him, be appalled by him getting back in. ESPN will finally give the NHL some coverage and sit on top of their self righteous throne and bash the NHL’s policy. However, the story will go away after once people get their fix of outrage and will eventually love him when he scores for their team. |

At least someone has the nerve to write a post that shows a bit of understanding for the criminal justice system. You know, as opposed to the chorus of disingenuous virtue signalling bile streaming from people’s mouths without an ounce of thought. |

Agreed, that’s why I said he had hoops to jump through after the court cleared him. In the end though, I think Russian immigration and our state department will grant him what he wants if a team is willing to sign him. |

Actually if the original record from the state is cleared the Feds don't really have a reason to deny him entry. I don't care either way if he plays for the Kings or another NHL team but he's proven that it was an isolated incident and his wife is still with him so who are we to judge him especially if he no longer has a record? Especially since the league had no issue with allowing Heatley back into the league for vehicular manslaughter.
Also kind of hypocritical for the LA Kings to allow Stoll back after his plea deal
