Always really curious to see the lists these guys put out. I don't know why teams keep them so "hush-hush."

Why does it matter?

- Hank3Henshaw

Because if a team knows they're on the list of places the player would accept a trade to, they can (frank) around and lowball offer for said player knowing the options are limited, at least thats what i assume

Stan would be far better off to come out and state the team's plan going forward is to draft, develop and promote from within to the maximum extent possible. .
- RickJ

Yes he would, but a con man runs the messaging. And worse it would seem he has a say in the hockey decisions.

Moving along, anyone have a list of the 2019 UFA's for me to start dreaming about not getting?

Rocky: "I'm happy to announce today that Stan Bowman has been made the VP of Hockey Operations. With today's announcement, Joel Quennville will be moving from behind the bench after a HOF coaching career leading the Chicago Blackhawks to 3 Stanley Cups during his tenure as head coach in Chicago, to GM of the club. John McDonough has decided to pursue other opportunities and we want to thank John for his many contributions and ONE GOAL leadership during his time as head executive of our franchise."

Calgary loaded up this year.

Noah Hanafin
Elias Lindholm
James Neal
Derek Ryan
Austin Czarnik

- Hank3Henshaw

Still boils down to their hosktenfing and top players. They are improved more due to Neal than other roster changes. Reloaded yes but they traded away talent too.

Hmm...but I would have to imagine that teams would know they were on the guy's list if the Hawks were shopping him to them. Plus, these GMs are talking all the time to teams (both on/off lists) to see what could bring back what, etc.

If the selling team is willing to discuss a trade of such a player with another team, that team can pretty well assume they are on the players acceptable destination list. So publishing the list should not really make a difference in this regard.

Not contradicting you SR but more thinking aloud....

What is the point of terminating anyone if the roster is hot garbage and there is no real room to manuver and make the team competitive? Why let Bowman handle the draft and FA if he is to get fired midseason? It seems to me that this would have been better to do once the Hawks were in the 17-18 toilet than it does now.

- phantasmo

They should have cleaned house immediately after the Nashville sweep. The fact they didn't do it then and more so after this season tells me Rocky is either too loyal or too inept to run a franchise. McD on down should have been long gone.

Yes but they don’t know what other teams are or are not in the list. Players game the list to prevent trades or to direct a trade to none, one or a handful of teams. It’s an advantage to the club owning rights not to have the list made public.

Yeah, the owner and president that brought in 3 cups after a 49 nearly 50 year drought and being one of the most successful teams in the last decade have no idea how to run a franchise. Kay.

Couldn't say it better!

Unbelievable how fast people call someone from hero to zero... Though I am not sure if the front office has ever been seen as "heroes" as the 3 cups were something we could expect

I love Rocky, have total faith in him, but I don't know if he has the hockey acumen to ask the tough questions of McDonough, Bowman and Q...and the "reporters" covering the Hawks are basically corporate mouth pieces.

Ok so if not inept then he is too loyal. Either way major changes should have implemented if not after 17 then definitely this offseason.

Why should they have? Was 2 years removed from a cup the official cut off for removal of the org leaders?

Idk one way or another about Rocky's hockey sense but I also think he's a business man who wants a profitable and competitive team, so he'd be the first to make a big move if need be.

Maybe they don't think the move is right now? I know we as fans sometimes think we know better than the owners, GMs, coaches, and such - and they might not be wrong in some cases - but come on. It's been all of 3 years since the Hawks won their last cup and only two teams have shorter 'droughts' currently. I hate some moves and decisions made but I'm also not going to throw the leadership under the bus so quickly.

I don't know if Q, Bowman, whoever are the right guys for the job in terms of the current or near future teams, but I know that calling for the heads of everyone just comes off as fans who became entitled and are now impatient.

Everyone suggesting trading Toews should just stop now! It doesn´t matter how frustrated you are with his playing last two or three years. He will be the last Blackhawk to wear number 19 and for a reason. Captain of a three Stanley Cup champion team. That is what he is going to be remembered one day - as he should. He is not going to be traded. Enough with that nonsense.

Especially after leading the West during the regular season - a dubious accomplishment, perhaps, and misleading in this case, perhaps, but still....

2 - 1st round outs, the 2nd of which was a complete and utter failure. No compete whatsoever. Then a complete miss of the playoffs.

While you may say entitled, many of us think these are wasted years of some of, if not the best, talent the Hawks have ever had in total. Hate to see those "best years" go to waste. If not a CUP, at least compete. My expectation(s) are make the playoffs and at least get past the 1st round. 3 years in a row.

Simply not acceptable.

Eh, most of the people who are coming off entitled also want to jettison the best and talented Hawks players to start a rebuild so that doesn't particularly jive. Not everyone, obvs but most.

And again, 3 years removed from a cup - literally only two teams with smaller 'droughts' and one of those was the perennial loser before this year. You'd think we were fans of the Canucks or Blues with the way some of y'all go at it. I'm not happy with things either, like I said I haaaate some of the moves lately, but some need to maybe take a step back.

Tell that to the season ticket holders who were promised big changes this season.

So McDs answer to solve problems was to hire “hockey consultants”. Why? First of all, so if they make recommendations and they go wrong, he can blame someone other than himself. Secondly, because McD knows nothing about hockey.

Certainly lots of circumstantial evidence anyway that SB and Q arent on the same page sometimes. Like after draft day last year, Weise, Fleischmann, Daley, Kempny. Great leaders find the root causes of these problems and solve them. Sadly, it seems to be continuing. When Q has to go to a media outlet to get the word out he wants defensman that can play defense....not a good indicator.

Sometimes change is necessary, and as others have pointed out, it has been successful elsewhere.

Amen Brother👍,I am not one advocating such a move. I am in total agreement with you, that number 19 will hang from the rafters after his last Blackhawk game which will be at the end of his career and no sooner. But I share others frustrations with some of the moves or non-moves being made.
As most fans know, whether you have season tickets or go to a couple Games a year it is not cheap, I am one of those guys that have to write the big check by August 3, and I think a lot of us share those tickets with other people on a year-by-year commitment and you know how it goes, when your name is not on the invoice, excuses start to come in why people cannot take the same amount of games that they took in the past. Our tickets have been in my family since 1972, and I got to say for the first time I am thinking about this being our last season if we at least don’t have a playoff team. We sat through one massive dark period of time, but we’re not getting any younger and I’ll be damned if I’m going to fork out $10-$15,000 a year at almost 70 years old by the time these guys get good again. The big screen TV will then be the best seat in the house! Here’s hoping that Stan Bowman pulls a surprise out of his sleeve.
