Stan gonna get canned or what? - z1990z
Doubt it. But given everything (VABesr, Zawaski and JJ), def think something’s up and likely out of left field. |

Nothing earth shattering, but for those who like to track jersey numbers, the new Hawks will wear the following:
Kunitz 14
Manning 23
Boqvist 27
Jokiharju 28
Ward 30 |

Dougie Hamilton is the only newly acquired Canes player who hasn't had his number announced... he's always worn #27, the same as Justin Faulk.... could be they're waiting to see if they can trade Faulk before they make Dougie switch? - BINGO!
I remember when the Canes had Kruger, Lindholm switched from 16 to 28 in what I assume was a move to accommodate and pay respect to his elder countryman.
With Kruger in Arizona now, he is slated to wear 26 but that was before Domi got traded who wore 16. |

They [probably] won’t because they both play the right side, but if all goes according to plan, Boqvist and Joker on the right side for the next decade is quite nice. |

Knock him all you want, but his decision making led us to three cups period. Everyone focus on his decisions like they are each an individual decision? When it's really a big picture decision.
Okay let's say we don't pay Toews or like the past owner gets into a feud with his star players and drives them away. To me it's worth it since i get to continue to watch Kane finish his career here. The past owner would of driven those 2 players away probably would of never agreed to sign Hossa so...
We really don't know how things unfolded, the people behindthe scenes do and that's why i believe Q and Stan have till the new CBA to improve this team.
Btw what really hurt him was the stagnant cap. - BetweenTheDots
Repectfully disagree here BTD...
Bowman added nicely around an extremely deep core (that was already in place) to help the Hawks secure two more Cups and he should be commended for that ...but his moves for the last several offseasons speak volumes and its not pretty.
This is the same guy who prioritized signing Rundblad after the 15 cup instead of getting the 4D he needed. The same guy that was fleeced on the Leddy and Sharp trades. The same guy that handed Danault to the Habs for hot garbage.
Then take a look at last summer - making moves for the sake of making them and how did that work out?
As far as the cap - every team has the same amount to spend. Blaming the cap is a reach especially for the capologist that Stan supposedly is. You need to be smarter and yet he hands that deal to #7.
Folks are wanting AA moved, but then who goes to the net? And how many #6 defensemen do you need? It'll be interesting to see what Bowman does here?
We'll see what happens. |

With the Leddy trade, they were already over the cap. Bowman was in a no win situation there. Sharp trade, yes, but Leddy trade he had no hand.

I'd love if Forsling can find his way to be a top 4D on the team, because they could use someone with his shot from that Left Side. While I don't know how long the Hawks are gonna hold onto him, I hope he puts it together. |

Actually I wouldn’t be surprised if Darling has a decent comeback year. I think last year was a big wake up call for him. Heard he started the season over weight and not in the best shape. - walleyeb1

I didn't see John's post on twitter but hopefully Bowman is listening on almost all his players. Doesn't he should or will trade any of them, but if something makes sense for short/long term he should be active. From all accounts that I have read, including Pat Boyle, not many are impressed with his UFA signings and current roster.
Long way to go before camp starts so lets see what Stanley has up his sleeve.
Have a great 4th everyone. |

They - TommyHawk[probably] won’t because they both play the right side, but if all goes according to plan, Boqvist and Joker on the right side for the next decade is quite nice.
As a fan who has grown to be excruciatingly patient during down times, I do get excited about the future of some of the Hawks prospects and you are right that Boqvist and Jokiharju could very well be in the Core 2.0 or baby core or whatever we want to call the next wave. Barring any future trades, free agent signings, and draft picks, the future blueline has these prospects competing for the starting 6 + 7th man:
LD
Beaudin
Carlsson
Forsling
Galvas
Gilbert
Hillman
Krys
RD
Boqvist
Jokiharju
Mitchell
The right side has great potential while the left side has lots of options in the reality that some of them won't pan out.
Sleepers could include Raddysh and Snuggerud, possibly Dahlstrom.
This also assumes Murphy, Gustafsson, Oesterle, and Rutta are no longer with the team, plus Keith and Seabrook are retired or traded. |

They are rolling them out, it seems. Saad is playing in the Chicago league so I feel like he'll be around during convention time, won't he? - L_B_R
They just rolled out Toews, and usually he is the coup-de-grace for the whole thing.
Seabs and Keith seem to alternate years.
Saad is getting married in July (and is also skipping the summer league because of that)

Between Custance and Powers articles about Larkin and Schmaltz's new contracts, here is a table of comparable players.
They believe Larkin and Schmaltz will get similar deals because their PPG is the same and they have the same agent. Schmaltz has a slightly weaker argument since he's played and scored less as well as being on a team where he is not the 1C / star vs Larkin.
Quotes on projections for both:
Craig Custance has written a lot about Larkin’s next contract the past few months. In his latest story, Custance projected Larkin’s AAV to be $6.7 million. Matt Cane projected six years with a $6,320,945 cap hit. Larkin will likely sign for 6-8 years.
The length of the deal will factor into Schmaltz’s asking price. Overhardt will want to make sure Schmaltz is receiving a competitive salary with the rest of the league if he’s signed for 5-8 years. One league source believed Schmaltz could ask for $5.5 million-$7.5 million depending on the length. Another league source thought $36 million over six years would be fair. |

Yesterday, Blackhawkup had an article about who they think will be the starting blueline for the Hawks in 2018-19. Don't agree with some parts of their analysis (a lot of their articles make you scratch your head as to the credentials to be hired to write for them), but here is what they project so take it FWIW:
Keith - Jokiharju
Gustafsson - Seabrook
Hillman - Manning
Forsling
Before ending the article with their projected blueline, they mention Murphy as a given to be in the lineup assuming he's not traded yet he doesn't make the starting blueline projection. |

God I hope so. He looks like he's recommitted himself, anyway.
Mrazek is going to try and push him for the starting role. Not sure if he'll do it, but on a one year deal he'll be highly motivated. |

Perhaps on July 1, or earlier, there would have been a better market for Leddy than right before training camp. |
