Gustav Forsling, Anisimov, 1st round pick ?? Faulk and AA nearly have identical cap hits. Maybe throw in a 3rd line center who can win draws if you have one lol. - SoftServe

I’m pretty sure that before Kunitz and Ward were signed, they were something like the 6th youngest - Ogilthorpe2
Including Kunitz and Ward, 5 on the roster are (or will be by Feb 1, according to hockey-reference.com) over 30 - plus 3 at 30 (Kane, Toews, Anisimov.
Not sure how THOSE numbers stack up with other teams, but 18 of 23 are 30 or under. The problem to me is not over-age, but under-experienced: of the 18, so many are unproven youngsters but expected to carry a heavy load next season - the likes of:
AdB, Schmaltz, Sikura, Hino, Murphy, Gustafsson, Forsberg, Rutta, Forsling, Ejdsell, Hayden.
Saad, I guess, is the only "under 30" with proven NHL talent and contribution - and he needs a comeback season. |

For the first time in 22 seasons coaching, his team finished below a .500 point percentage.
He won less than 40 games only four times: (I dont count his rookie year because he only coached 40 games)
1 - 1998-1999 when the Blues won 37 and went to round 2 of the playoffs.
2 - 2003-04 when he was fired after 61 games.
3 - 2012-13 when the Hawks won 36 out of 48 games and then won the Cup.
4 - 2016-17 which was basically the first time one of his teams truly did not succeed.
I'd like to see how he responds to his first really bad season as a coach. - Hawks_49
It just looks to me like Q has thrown in the towel ,and makes line-up like he is pulling cards out of a hat . And really his last 3 years have been suspect ,only won 3 playoff games in 3 years . Regular season is not a great scale for a coach |

Only one guy over the age of 30 right now. AA would technically make it two.
Only question is... uh... are they any good? |

I still want to see how he responds to this adversity. He is one of the greatest coaches in the history of the NHL.
Regular season success does matter, and so does playoff success. Quenneville has plenty of both. |

Real hard to say.
Hawks are on the downslope, but there's so much up in the air in Carolina it's impossible to know how it's going to shake out. |

Bingo... how's Lucas Wallmark looking? Been intrigued by him and looked like he lit it up last year in the AHL.
How's he looked in his cup of tea with the Canes? Projects as a middle 6 C, no? |

Just to add. I think for the Hawks and any of these young players, it is important they have some vets around to help them along and to prevent too many young guys from being promoted before they are ready. I think we've seen in the NHL, that some teams cut really deep to rebuild and then they end up rushing guys into the NHL without much veteran support. (Edmonton is a prime example)
Contracts aside, the Hawks have a number of vets that have gone the distance and the next generation of players can learn from them. Kunitz is a guy that has won 4 cups and brings some expertise. I like that he is a bit of a finisher (about 12.5% shooting in his career) and I think part of the reason they took a chance is that he can bury chances if there are skilled guys on the Hawks setting him up. Not saying he will score a ton, but 15+ goals is attainable.
The success of this team will lie with the young guys and if they are ready and the vets are gonna help them take that next step if they are ready.

Bill Peters jerked him around a bunch. He has potential, no doubt, but they called him up and gave him 4 minutes of ice time before sending him back down one game.
Honestly I have no idea. You'd think he should be middle-6 material, right? But when he's played with the big club he's looked more like an NHL/AHL tweener. Not sure if it's a lack of confidence or what, but his hands and reaction speed seems a little slow for the NHL level. |

Looking at the list of confirmed Blackhawks who will be at the convention at the end of the month (none of the new guys will be there), but more notably...
No Seabrook, Saad, Forsberg, or Gustafsson...
Every other currently-rostered player at the NHL level will be there. Could be nothing, could be something, but worth monitoring. |

Dougie Hamilton is the only newly acquired Canes player who hasn't had his number announced... he's always worn #27, the same as Justin Faulk.... could be they're waiting to see if they can trade Faulk before they make Dougie switch? |

They are rolling them out, it seems. Saad is playing in the Chicago league so I feel like he'll be around during convention time, won't he? |
