Pens sign Stefan Elliot. Tavares, who? |
|
|
|
You’re an idiot Wilson
This is a ZERO risk move, a free player
We need a new blogger on FA day
Trade Wilson, sign anyone else |
|

3 million is not a “premium” anymore for an NHL caliber D man
Get a grip Wilson |

|
|
“Pay a premium”?
Have you noticed any free agent signings? Jacks deal looks like pennies |

It's not about the money. It's about a subpar dman coming into the lineup when a better option could have been had.
Hunwick is actually a better dman than JJ. |

The Pens turned Shultz, Oleciak, Cole into good to capable Dmen.....There is no reason JJ can't be rehabbed. |

I'd say they are about even, Hunwick had terrible positioning too and scored the occasional goal. Ugh let's just hope for the best haha |

All about system. Hunwick didn’t fit. Johnson hopefully will. Better pick mover and that’s what Sullivan wants in his line up. All 6 defensemen are capable of getting forwards the puck with speed |

The best thing we can at this point lol |

My only hope in the JJ signing is that he and Crosby are buddies, and that Sid will push him to be better and call him out if he's not.

We have to talk about the most pressing problem right now. Who wears 7? JJ or Cullen lol |

All of those D men were in their 20’s. JJ will be 32 this next season.
Spending 3.25 on JJ is one thing if there are no other options out there, but there are. It’s all about alternatives and he’s getting more than lots of other D men who a lot of us would rather have (my pick was Hickey)
Same goes for Cullen. What’re the alternatives? I would take Ennis over Cullen. Jokinen may lack foot speed but he brings a lot of other elements to his game. Cullen no longer has any of these elements |

We can reflect back during the season when we’re making a move or two that this could’ve been us to start the season:
Guentzel-Sid-Sprong
Brassard-Malkin-Kessel
Rust-Sheahan-Hornqvist
Hagelin-Jokinen-ZAR
Dumo-Letang
Emelin-Schultz
Maatta-Rig
Murray
Jarry
I wonder what’s going on with Emelin anyways.. |

I’m not a big fan of either signing... but it sounds like pens should no doubt fire Rutherford, Sullivan, gonchar, Martin just clean house and hire.... Ryan Wilson!!! This is clearly a very easy job and he seems to easily be able do a WAY better job then all of them over the past 2 years as seen by numerous posts. You aren’t allowed to say it would be for sure Stanley cups every year because it’s mostly luck but we would be guaranteed final 4 every year. |

Any player with average speed would burn that third pairing |

Rowney wishes he was Cullen. Terrible comparison. |

No way maaaan. Gonchar is totally working with Rig and Maatta on their footspeed. They’ll never get burned again |

So I've brought this up a few times and I'm not sure the Pens are going to keep Oleksiak. Seems very odd what should be a pretty easy signing hasn't happened yet.
The Pens have a little more than $4M free right now, but I'd say they try and keep around $1M free for deadline deals.
IMO there's $3M on the table and I wonder if they're hunting an RD to go with JJ. Sadly, outside of Green who would cost too much, there's not a great crop of RDs that would fit the Pens.
Something just feels like they may be trying to pull something off. Maybe not major, but something.
EDIT: Forgot Green re-signed |

Oleksiek is more comfortable on his off side. They're trying to sign him long term in my opinion. That's why the delay.

I don't love the Dad signing. I think we need younger, faster legs on the 4th line. I understand it's zero risk, but sometimes coaches have trouble sitting vets even when they deserve it. It sure seems like Brass is going to see a bunch of time at LW. |

If he re-signs I don't expect more than two years. |
