Dont hate, dont really love, but it fills some much needed NHL depth. These are fine moves. I like the Cole move over the Calvert one. Current team

Landy Mack Rants
Ghetto Jost Kerfoot
Nieto Sodaberg Calvert
Wilson Kamenev Compher
Bourque

Zads EJ
Cole Barrie
Girard Nemeth
Barbs Alt

Varly
Grubauer

Would like one more winger added to battle for those 2/3L Winger Spots. But its not a bad looking roster especially since the rest of the Central teams didnt do anything drastic today either.

Definitely expecting more from Josty and Compher this season, hope they can stay healthy. We need another 1-2 top six wingers to balance out the scoring. I like the direction where we are heading.

Avs sorely need playoff type of experience and players who don't break down in the playoffs . Hopefully they can produce too. Can't imagine what a player like Wilson from the Caps would do for this team , even though I know his hits are borderline at times. Calvert is a tough nosed hard to break down type of player and got they same pay . Cole got a nice raise, so hoping he can bring the Vet and Cup savvy to the Avs lineup. So many want Jost and next years #1 to go and try and snag Panarin.. oh and don't forget they want Barrie tossed in too. I think it is simply too much to give up .

Not exactly what I thought they'd do, but adding plenty of depth never hurts. Might as well kept Orpik for the one year IMO. I hope I'm wrong on him though.
The term isn't bad , not crazy about the AAV for him though. The Calvert deal I don't really mind, it may be bit more then I'd of liked to pay not terrible though. But he adds good 6-13 depth, good PKer, can score abit and skates very well. I think we all need to pump the brakes on all of our young forwards, cause not everyone of them are going be taking the giant leap forward in their evolution next year. I think they will be better but not "Rants" better.

A couple of thoughts on Cole. First the three year deal will make him expansion fodder for Seattle at the end of the second year of this deal. Second, the Avalanche can now deal Barrie to Toronto for perhaps Nylander. They will have the depth and reinforcements coming such as Timmins and Makar during the 18-19 season. With WIlson coming off the books at the end of next season, potentially Varlamov and Barrie gone, the Avs continue to have salary cap flexibility to address the numerous ELC's that will be ending in the next two years.

Cole is fine at 3 yrs. He is a guy who will not be as dumb as Orpik can be but still not fizzle out in the playoffs. I do like the idea of that Trade to the leafs seeing they got massive salaries for their forwards now with Tavares . Do they pay out 11 million to "let us down in the playoffs" Matthews

My point is with the length of the contract is that it could be only a two year deal then Cole is lost in the expansion draft to Seattle. I like what Cole brings to the team in the short term.
