Never mind, being observant is not a strength today.
Is it possible comparing them based on seasons where the Pens won the Cup and CBJ poop the bed aren’t completely fair? |

I think Johnson has good skills, although not well developed - even at 31yrs old. However, I do think that he has not been used in a way that best suites those skills. If PIT has a strong intuition that their system would suit Johnson well, and that playing a 4-6 D is something he can handle, then I think $3mil(ish) is not that bad of a contract (I'd prefer 3-4 years though). In case of emergency he could play 4D as well and there is nobody on the current roster who could do that, and really nobody in FA who could either (De Haan looks like he may be 4-5mil per season)...
Overall, I am optimistic about this signing...looking at stats from previous years on different teams isn't really a fair comparison because it is about how is stats could look on PIT. Yes, you only have other teams' data, but you can't use it as gospel, that's just not how it works. |

I'm over it. It's not a crippling deal.
I thought Stastny was going back to the Peg. Winnipeg gonna need a backup plan. |

With the cap going up every year his contract will be pennies in comparison to what other d-men are making. |

@joecool: Eh. Johnson has been a done deal for days. I think we’re all resigned to it.
I don’t think we’re demonstrably worse. Sheary would have been a fourth liner this year and I’m not positive Johnson is worse than Hunwick. It’s just the fact that we had a chance to improve and decided not to, as I do actually think Chad is a better defenseman than JMFJ and we had a lot of cap space to play around with. This is the second offseason in a row where Rutherford claims he’s gonna shake things up a bit and we stay stagnant. This is an issue in a conference where our division remains very strong and the Atlantic keeps getting better. The Pens don’t really have an edge anymore, we’re just one in a really talented crowd. |

Still have the best center depth in the league (this year for the entire season), a great top 6 and top 4, and a young two time Stanley cup winning goalie. I think they’ll be ok |

Yeah they’ll be more than ok. Still top tier contenders. But the East is a gauntlet and we had 8 mil in cap space to improve and decided not too. We passed up on an edge. |

It's amazing to think how strong the Easter ne conference is now in both divisions. If Tavares goes then that's 1 less team to worry about in the Metro I suppose. |

Toronto is equivalent if they sign Tavares. Johnny T is a top 5 center and Matthews just keeps getting better. Kadri and Brassard are washes |

We don’t have to worry about the Islanders even if he stays. That organization is that bad but it does seem to be headed in the right direction now. Just too little too late to salvage the Tavares era. |

the Toronto team will be forced to move some players... no telling what kind of chemistry they'll have. hope its like the Selanne Kariya experiment in Colarado from some years ago.
Toronto will be good enough for playoffs first round, not further. its in their dna... also, this isn't going to be the tavares of old. it'll be the toronto version. players are always a few pegs down in toronto... Look at kessel, the guy was essentially the playoff MVP if it weren't for a vindictive toronto media giving it to crosby instead... once he left the oppressive toronto market. |

When the cap goes up, depth costs more
Wilson, you sound like a disgruntled old man “Back in the day you could get a solid 3rd pair D man for a million...”
Cole just got 4.25, anyone want him back at that #? Got more than Dumo.... |
