Bad day for Taylor Hall as Shero gave him no backup. 2 more years until Hall can give us the Tavares treatment!
- RussH1964

Hall wants to be in Jersey.

We got all offseason - there are better players available via trade route than the crop of FA this year. Shero has done so well so far, no reason to think he lost his mind.

We had Marty - best goalie ever.
Nieds / Scotty - 2 of best D ever.
Kovy

My point is EK65 isn't as far fetched as you might think.

I don’t get it. Santini played just over 20 minutes a night for 36 games last year. Ut up 10 pts, and was an even +/-. He even played some top line minutes. He had some struggles but wasn’t Matt Corrente bad either.

Whoa did you just suggest that because we've had great players in the past, it's more feasible we can get another one right now? That's pretty special.

We don't have the assets to be competitive for Karlsson. Furthermore, and I can't stress this enough, trading for Karlsson whether it be picks or prospects or players would not put us over the top or even make us contenders. We need time

I won't respond to your first sentence.

As for the second, Sev, McL, 1st, 2nd and some scrub will do it. Remember, you are paying up for 1 yr, of his services. OTT cant command a crazy amount because teams will just wait, maybe, for FA status.

I'll respond to your first sentence now, my point was the best players DO want to come to NJ so no reason to think we are some mudpit. (no pun intended to the good folks that make up Newark)

All of those players were brought in via trade or draft though. Yes, Kovy's case was different, but he was probably more attracted by the 17 year deal we gave him.

Yeah but that deal is exactly what I'm talking about. We acquire Karlsson (if that's even enough) who is amazing, don't get me wrong, but we lose a top prospect and 2 picks that would be crucial to making this team actually competitive.

I'd also like to apologize for how strongly I worded the first comment. Unnecessary

Yes those players did arrive via those methods, but also stayed with numerous contracts extensions.
Yes we'd lose a prospect (who hasnt proven himself which could be good or bad for us if trade bait), picks are just picks and arent guaranteed to turn into anything.

BUT we'd also be gaining another superstar player, in Hall. Getting EK would lock in Hall longterm too.

Your apology is accepted, thank you.

We'd have to commit 20+ million next year just to keep them, handicapping a team that isn't ready for prime time.

Teams will focus on MVP HAll as he had over 40 points more than any other player.on NJD . And he will get banged if he does not have protection. Same as NICO.

ALso need secondary scoring. Having Palmieri and Mojo out hurt for parts of last season was not good.

Bratt needs to find his game again or hes AHL bound.

Wood need to take next step gain. He was very poor in the playoffs. but had 18 goals regular season.

There's a documentary on Netflix about this subject, although I can't remember the title. Perhaps if you watched it you'd change your opinion. I'll look up the title for you.

No. 2.5 million for two years, guys never hit 20 points. Coleman and Noesen are fine for 4th line wings.

Sorry more so feeling out what Shero might do based on what he has done. I also read the leafs blog and they have paid the bonus on his contract and all there is left is to pay him a mil a year. He is a good skater for a bigger guy and brings toughness that seems to be this off seasons theme for us as we have already added Gryba and Gabriele who both look like low impact players more likely to bring the rough stuff then contribute pts. If we could get a pick for taking that cap off the Leafs hands then I wouldnt be against it. Worse case we get a pick and he fights a few ppl and best case we get a pick and a decent net front presence at a cheaper hit to replace Maroon.

Still very early but after last seasons trade deadline I would like to see Ray maybe find a contract or to that maybe looks worse then it is to take on and get us some more picks! I think we can all agree the prospect pool is as nice as ever but still just isnt worth writing home about. We have to keep restocking and making picks with all the staff we have brought in to help scout and develop our young players!

It probably won't. It's just the star players always get roughed up by the other team's checkers, it's always been that way. It's also on the decline anyway with how the league has evolved away from nonsense thugs and is more about skating/skill anyway. And in any case, you don't want a slow grit guy playing with Hall/Nico to protect them anyway. That's just bad for the offense.
