I suspect Manning is in the Indianhead because one of Gus or Forsling won't be. The organization has made the call and they'll be part of some kind of deal either this summer or fall.

And the Hawks would have to be out of their minds (and setting themselves up for the next cap problem) if they give Schmaltz 6x6 after one productive season. Playing with Kane. I really like the kid. If he was a center and a 53% faceoff guy to boot, maybe there is room for discussion. Piling up points on a massively suboptimal team isn't enough for me.

Okay context: Gus saw higher QOC, had marginally higher QOT (like barely worth noting), and had more OZS. Manning's zone deployment was skewed highly to the NZ - he got Murphy's deployment, pretty much, if you want a more direct comparison. Looking at notes from the Flyers SBN guys, it's because Manning was being deployed against the lower comp more deliberately. Q skewed Gus's zone deployment but not his comp; Flyers skewed Manning's comp but not his zone deployment. Both were sheltered in some way but Gus was ultimately better on a objectively worse team, at least this past season.

You missed the point. My question was about that particular side by side comparison chart as a stand alone. Without going to 2-3-4-5-6 other sources of fancy stat info to give that chart context.

I always looked at that particular chart and thought there are so many more variables needed to give that chart context/meaning.

Again in the fancy stat world going by your analysis of them Manning sucks out loud. Bottom 20 of 1,000 players ain't good..... Appreciate your effort very much.

Just a quick look at some more or less comparables:

J.T. MILLER
5 x 5.25

BO HORVAT
6 x 5.5

MIKA ZIBANEJAD
5 x 5.36

NINO NIEDERREITER
5 x 5.25

JONATHAN DROUIN
6 x 5.5

Nice, Walleye. That list tells me 5 mil per for 6yrs is fair if they were gonna bridge him today.

Yes, in general those charts are just the start / basis of a comparison, breaking down by percentile, and meant for a quick look. Which was why when I first posted the chart, I said "in their role as bottom pair d-men" or something like it, meaning I was implying that their context info was similar enough that the charts were justifiable in use of comparison.

This is where I believe the numbers should fall. A good team/player compromise. There is also more upside to Schmaltz as well.

Okay so Bowman is a f up, i get it worst gm in the land. Pitt/Det/Boston/LA were the heavy hitters in the past 10 years including the Blackhawks. Detroit hung but to no avail, Pitt was able to draft enough talent to be a factor again but were quiet for a few years until Sullivan and Kessel came along to put the team over the top. LA old and heavy team and Boston just not all that anymore. Let me know where there is a gm who can manage the cap, keep all his young players, pay all his core players, draft studs and keep all their draft picks? Please enlighten me?

Doug Wilson seems to be doing a fairly good job. They’ve been competitive just as long and are loaded.

I am ok with today.

The Ward signing might indicate some question about Crow.
If Ward, Kunitz and and Manning work out great. If not they can be the backup goalie, 13th forward and 7th defender in the press box. It is better to keep a kid in Rockford playing regularly on an top line or top pairing than having them play every fourth game in Chicago and spend the other 3 in the press box. All are fairly short term deals.

Does anyone know if Forsberg can go back to Sweden with the Hawks still retaining his rights?

I could see the Hawks sending Jersey or Ottawa AA, Oesterle and Hossa's contract for a draft pick. Then trying to sign or trade for a 2nd line center or two. Vermette? D Grant? Wingels? Filppula?

As of now
Saad - Toews - Hino
Dcat - AA - Kane
Kunitz - Schmaltz - Sikura
Martinsen - Kampf - Hayden

Murphy - Keith
Seabs - Gus
Rutta - Manning

Crow
Ward

If Crow is healthy all year and stands on his head the Hawks could battle for the last playoff spot. That is assuming no other major injuries, the core plays better, the D plays better, a couple of the young players step up. A lot to ask (even for an optimist. If Crow goes on LTIR and they do not move Hossa's contract they have $11,275 mil in cap space on day one of the season. Should they be in contention they could make TDL moves.

If things head South the contracts today are small and short term and the Hawks have a very good pick in next years draft. Prospect pool is deepening.

After nearly 50 pretty sad years the Hawks won 3 cups in the last 9 years. I am ok with a few ugly years.

In a major market and with all this “one goal” BS my expectations as a fan is to be in the playoffs.

After they got waxed by Nashville this organization was “mad” and they got worse. Now it seems they’ve accepted their demise internally and have been caught with a lack of nhl ready prospects. So we get the white Sox approach of signing names people recognize but players long past their prime. None of today’s additions make this team better.

Kunitz is timmonen part 2
Manning is a steaming pile of crap
Ward will take forsbergs spot and with CC’s deal up after next year it would be nice to know if this kid has any chance to be a 1

The 3 cup wins are history. Lately this organization has failed and hasn’t won a playoff game since 2016. Baring a string of bounce back years and health that winless streak isn’t breaking this year.

So let’s see what Stan does in the trade market.

I’d also begin to wonder when a 2/19/88 start to ponder asking for a trade for a last chance to win. 19/88 wasting prime years as they miss the playoffs......especially 88

Sure, but it’d take a lot. Probably more than we’d want to give up. He also has a big payday coming up.

Except for Drouin, each of your examples had several years experience, and several years of 20+ goals.

Schmaltz has much less experience, and a shorter number of quality games years.

True but he runs the team kind of like the Blackhawks he played for. Good enough to make the playoffs but comes up short to win a Cup. Rather have the 3 cups myself and be where we are now.

Credit to Blows, they are going for it. But the ask was HUGE, I want to see what the Blows gave up.

So now they’ve added ROR and Bozak down the middle, and Perron on the wing.

Great job down in STL.

Haven’t seen what STL had to give up to get ROR. That was a trade, not a UFA signing...

That's what Buffalo was pretty much asking, I guess Thompson is the top prospect.
