38 year old Kunitz??? Just wow! |

Ward is going to payoff, I'm telling you.
Def an upgrade over whatever revolving door of goalies was used last year. |

I would actually - at this point - prefer a trade. Provided it’s a hockey trade that makes the Hawks better now and future. - Marlowe
As Hawks fans we are not past walking thru the minefield that is free agency but I have new found respect for StanBow. We don't know what's said internally but we know Rocky said publicly there could be changes after the clown show in net and on defense last yr if improvement isn't shown.
Again we aren't out of the lunacy that is FA but we got thru the draft and StanBow didn't move any picks for short term help and seems he's not doing anything in FA to kill cap flexibility in 1-2-3 yrs when the Core 2.0 should become difference makers and an expensive add might help get the club deep in the playoffs.
So far Stan has done everything for the long term health of the organIzation. As a fan I'm very thankful for that.
You too Marlowe, thanks a bunch for keeping the board up to date on the tons of info out in cyberspace. Very helpful.

Hearing the #blackhawks are pursuing veteran forward Chris Kunitz - DarthKane
This would be a good consolation prize. Although not the biggest but he plays big and tough, an honest player that has character and has won many cups. His overall play is on the slightly downward trend but his expectations are far different than Toews, Seabs, Keith, etc. Besides I think he has a Chicago connection, maybe due to having played at Western MI

Hawks are hoping to be able to apply for elderly discounts at the Waffle House. Hawks going the older/slower route. Though knowing Bowman this probably has to do with Kunitz's propensity to be on very good teams. In Bowman's mind it's probably because of Kunitz and not just the fact he was on a really good team to start with. |

Those 29 points for a 39 year old guy will be the last piece to the puzzle. Unless the guy can take a draw this is a worthless move.
Ek is reporting it so hopefully there is nothing to this. |

Hopefully they were/are doing both! - Marlowe
Probably. Others teams would have been waiting for the free agent picture to clear also. |

Who, Mr. SoxFan, Pete Ward? Or Ward Cleaver? Both more likely than Cam Ward. |

Thanks! Love your breadth of knowledge on USHL and other levels below NHL/AHL and that you share it so readily (and enthusiastically).
Btw - Sun Times Sachel Price is keeping a FA tracker here

Working on the aav for Paul Statsny in Vegas, but I believe he’s agreed to a 3 year term.
Also others confirm that a Stasny deal doesn’t have any effect on VGK going after Karlsson. |

You know Darth depending on term, 1 yr deal a must, Dan Hamhuis at 35 had a fine season last yr with DAL under Hitchcock, has a tad left in the tank and has tons of back class. I'd be fine with this guy to steady a pairing and serve as a bridge.
He logged 20:00 a night last yr FOR Hitchcock. - Mr Ricochet
If he's available and price/term is right Hamhuis would be the best and best fit given what's has been and currently out there. Steady and D first d man!

He is likely committing himself to the city he chooses for the rest of his playing career, which will directly affect a lot of people in his life. Of course he's taking his time and making an informed decision. Pretty sure he doesn't care who is annoyed.

If the Hawks get Kunitz that would be a fantastic addition. Versatile guy who's been through it all. Another high quality locker room guy for the young guys to gain good habits from, and he can still produce on the ice at both ends. |

You don't think he has already been doing recon on the cities? "Informed Decision"....he wants Toronto, I think he just wants to make sure he gets paid there. |

Hawks have plenty of old guys to show young guys "good habits".
He is neither a D-man or a center nor is he a top 6 winger. So now he's taking a spot from a young kid the Hawks need to develop.
Bowman stated a year ago he wanted to get faster and younger and now this?

Of course he has done recon. Now he's deciding where he wants to sign. Not sure what the big deal is. This is a regular occurrence every July 1st. |

No.
Hes old. Hea done. No reason to take ice time from younger guys that could learn on the job. |

Yeah agree did t want them to sign a JVA for 6 yearX7 contract . . The reality is this team needs to rebuild with youth for a few years. We need to save cap space for the younger players when they are out of their first contracts. . I just don't unrstand bringing in ward and Kunitz or Cole unless It's to trade at the deadline for assets. I think are a long way off from the playoffs |

He's a versatile winger who can play up and down the lineup. If they sign him, Kunitz certainly is not going to hurt the team in any way. |
