Yes. It was. Happy to have enjoyed the hell out of the Blackhawks then.
The 1980s were full of heartbreak for me with the SC loss and the player movement of the 1990s. The last 9 seasons have been everything I thought winning would feel like.

Lets see what the management does today.....

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
But sometimes the best move is the one you don’t make.
So what’s a GM to do?

Explore trades and find a market inefficiency . We'll see.

As we speculated for a while now, the Canadiens will announce the return of Tomas Plekanec today once the market opens. One-year deal. He had some serious interest from Chicago, I believe, but returns to the Habs

With the money being thrown around for a lot of meh...other than Ward signing, I'm with the people saying "hopefully nothing".

Would rather they try to keep developing their own. If there's a trade or two out there that makes sense, great.

Any updates if the Hawks are making an offer to Rusty?
- HawkintheD

That would be awesome, but he’s likely out of the Hawks price range.

Action picking up on Erik Karlsson trade talks in OTT. Some with teams prepared to take Bobby Ryan but some with teams not taking Ryan.

This is interesting. Does Lou go all in there after (apparently) losing out on Tavares?

Expect D Greg Pateryn to join #mnwild on 3-year deal around $2.25 million.

Another one off the list...

Easy to hang back there and pitch stones. What would you do to fix this?
- Marlowe

Been pitching 'em for quite a while.

Got a Delorean or Tardis I can borrow for a bit?
I'd have done things quite differently going back several years. Water under the bridge. Not sure this mess is "fixable" under this current regime. Yes, thrilled with 3 CUPS. And not happy either because I believe with some different moves, there should have been more. And now you've got some of the core that are past their prime.

Agreed that we are where we are and all of us can look backward and find things we would have done differently. Where do we go with what we have now? I think they can’t go halvesies or you end up in no mans land for years. Don’t think they have the stomach for a full rebuild so worried we are in for years of meh.

The list is made up of a pile of insignificant crap, most of whom will either get too much money or term or both.

A lot of posters here commenting on the amount of money being played to players as too much. Why? That is what happens when you start off having cap space, and then the cap goes up by $5 million. Players get paid higher salaries. And seriously, you give up nothing to sign a free agent other than money. Many here commenting on upgrading via trade. That is all fine...but you are then giving up assets to obtain assets. And really, how many trades has Bowman really "won"?

On another topic I mentioned "IF" the Hawks want to move Hossa contract, they likely have to give up a first round pick to make it worth to some other team. I did not say they "SHOULD" do that. I am saying that is the cost of business. Many posters here think it is just a piece of cake to shave off $5 million in cap space. It is not. You have to pay up the butt to move that contract.

They will certainly LTIR Hossa again. Not as ideal as trading his contract, but better than nothing.

Difference there was Oduya was plugged into a lineup that had Hjalmarsson in his prime, a very solid Seabrook, Keith pre-knee injury and at the top of his game. There isn't any under-the-radar addition you're going to plug into that D mess since you only have 1 top 4 guy (Keith) and everyone else is at best a 5 (Seabrook) or 6/worse.

I'm just waiting to see McDonut jump ship before start of the 19/20 season when this one turns into another lottery pick season.

Hey Savvy hope you're summer is going well. I'd like to see McD as the new NHL commish and bag on Bettman. Let Blunk run it and hire a new Pres. of hockey ops and get out of the way.

So it's Xmas in July and what's under the tree (hoping its not Turco 2.0.) in Cam Ward. Hopefully Ward still has something in the tank. Meanwhile Stan still has Hossa's cap hit on the books - will someone dance with Stan - I think the price is a lot steeper than folks think. Other teams have the Hawks over a barrel. AFter the Ward deal what 6mil left in cap space...So with little cap money what can the Hawks do?

Van going to grab both Rousell and Beagle - two guys who could have/would have helped here...? I'd certainly like to see this team more physical and playing with an edge, but that will quickly be denied by Q's stick check ballet. Kempny seemed like a decent player and how serviceable he was is certainly debatable. But he spent a ton of time riding the pine here. And yet he's about to sign a 10mil deal with the Caps.

And as far as some of the deals the players are signing - well folks can say those are ridiculous prices, but its what the market bears. Look at what Greene just signed for in Detroit and Hammer in the desert. I think we were all hoping the Hawks could nab a decent vet dman or two. Not going to be a whole lot left. And the center depth isn't there right now...heck you don't even have Kruger there after another overpay by Stan and then he was forced to move the kid.

Interested to see how this plays out...but not hoping for a whole lot at this point.
