No we need players with heart character grit physicality edge board winners net crashers and willingness to do what needs to do to win.
A unified locker room and management and play for each other have each other. Play for the BLACKHAWK logo and not the name on back of the jersey!!! |

Doughty will not be where Seabrook is now at his age.
Hard to compare the 2 at this point. I think doughty will be fine at 34 (end of the contract) - KINGS67
Doughty will be 37 at the end of his new contract. |

This syncs up with what I heard today. Defensive defenseman for Q. They will sign Ward and also want a center. - mrpaulish
Ian Cole isn't a defensive defenseman - he's just not a offensively. Was inefficient when the Pens tried to use him in the top 4 a couple of seasons so, just a #6 now. It'd have been like playing Rozsival in the top 4 anytime he was with the Hawks.
I'd rather the Hawks invest in their younger players than overpay for yet another bottom pair guy.
Sorry, I'm catching up through the posts lol |

^^this
Roenick was 177 pounds when drafted, but played bigger. Vegas was not that big of a team, they just never gave up all game. Don’t care if they are 6’5” or 5’5”, as long as they can play 200 feet and don’t give up on the play all good. |

I'm all for physical guys who are hard to play against / win board battles and more but there are a lot of people on this board that seem to get off on reading the height and weight of players first and foremost. It's almost a fetish at this point.
Focus on the quality of the player - skill, physicality, tenacity, whatever - and not on their size. |

Exactly. Individual willingness to compete/battle. Also playing a good smart team game and executing their game plan. Q always wants guys willing to play their role.
I think line 4 will have some grit/sandpaper this season. I really expect the focus to be tighter defence early on. |

As of late last night, Hawks and 2 other teams trying to sign Ian Cole today. Chi. sounds like the frontrunner. Hawks still talking to camp of James Neal. Watch for movement on AA, but likely not today. |

It’s a matter of physics in a contact sport. If a guy weighs 170lbs, he’s going to lose nearly every physical puck battle against the 210lb player. The Hawk Dman can’t/won’t clear the forward from the slot, and the Hawks Forward can’t/won’t screen the goalie bc he’s tossed around by the opposition defense. Hawks have an entire team of guys who are small and soft with a small handful of exceptions. 6’4” Anisimov plays soft. 6’3 Rutta plays soft. Hayden and Saad and Murphy play tough hockey. Seabrook is tough but too slow now. It’s getting guys with not just height but weight and nastiness in the lineup.
You can make Richard size jokes all you want, I’m not here to judge. What I will judge is your inability to accurately speak to this topic as someone who has never played full check hockey. Fancy stats and no check women’s hockey doesn’t allow you to know the 1v1 BATTLEFIELD that is ice hockey. The bottom line is that a team full of too many guys like Schmaltz, Debrincat, Kane, Hinostroza, Sikura. Oesterle, Gustafson, Forsling, ect is far too easy to play against. The Hawks are not the most talented team on the ice anymore, so outworking and outbattling the opponent is what they need to do. |

How much do you think Neal gets? And can he play LW? Rather he be on a line with 88 and move Cat up with Toews. |

Besides the certainly very possible future in which today’s 17 year old 170 pounder becomes tomorrow’s 22 year old 185 pounder (yes, a couple of years but....) and that Bowman hopefully if going after the bigger players you’d like to see in non-draft markets (including the possibly rightly much-maligned Ian Cole)....
How about not attacking Lady’s hockey knowledge and analytical abilities with personal attacks?
I know it’s tough in today’s polarized world, but let’s start here, OK? |

I agree with your logic. I never played full check hockey however, I can tell you at 5'11 240 i got pushed around in the scrum playing Rugby... size matters. |

• Defenseman Ian Cole won’t be signing with the Blackhawks, a source said on Sunday morning. Cole and the Blackhawks had discussions, but could not agree on term.
6 a.m.
• It doesn’t sound like defenseman John Moore is likely to sign with the Blackhawks. A league executive said Saturday night he believed Moore was considering the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders.

They may be sitting out y'all.
Keeping the D they have, adding maybe Neal and Grabner , trading for Faulk ? We'll see. |
