JVR is one of the few 29-30 year old guys I think might not regress as fast as people would think. He has never relied on speed to score his goals and he has a knack for being in the right spot at the right time and being crafty around the net. I've watched him play a ton over the time he has been in Toronto. You barely notice him on the ice until he has the puck in front of the net.
If he was signed to a 6 year 5 million a year it might not be too bad. Anything more and I would walk. Plus he's from jerz so that's a bonus.

I think nothing big is happening and it's nuts crossed on our guys being good.. or getting a good draft pick. I still don't see this team as a contender with it missing a big forward and a big dman.. and I doubt you buy both as free agents vs maybe drafting one. Yes, it's great our guys developed last year, but lets be real.. the reason we picked 17th and not 10th was because of Hart winner Hall. The rest of the team was OK at best. we needed a top 10 pick. Things will either workout for us, or we'll just go through another cycle and rebuild and be back here in 10 years.

I get what you are saying, but it might be a little too pessimistic. We might miss the playoffs next year, but the building blockks are in place for the near future. You are correct though we need another stud forward and a #1 dman, who are not in the system, perhaps in FA over the next 2 seasons.

Might not land them through f/a but you never know what situations will unfold within other orgs that will cause the players we need to become available. Just need to be patient and be ready with cap and assets because it could happen whenever...

I will say it seems like its been pretty tight lipped around the Devils org. I can only hope something is brewing but if its nothing it wont matter, we are on the right path.
