That would be a great offseason.
1. Sign De Haan or, as a consolation, Kempny (still one team besides Washington in the mix for him according to the athletic)
2. Trade for Neiderreiter at depressed cost due to eating the final year of Ennis's deal.

Shero should continue to grow our own Defense so we don't have to overpay in a always in demand D market. If Butcher, Smith, Sev can live up to their potential, this team will be so damn good.

Apparently Lucic is on his way out... What do you think Maroon AND Lucic?

I'd love that.

I think Maroon is signing elsewhere and unless lucic is real cheap I doubt shero makes that move

With how hockey is played in 2018, what about having Lucic is at all appealing?

You ALWAYS need big tough guys. And he can score. Whats not to like?

Didnt you have enough of the wussy version of the Devils. We need some anger and hate.

The term on his contract, you can find plenty of snarl if you need it without taking on a Lucic contract.

He’s 30 years old, had 10 goals and 34 points last year and has 5 years left at 6 mil per. I don’t care how much the Oilers eat, I want no part of that.

It's a pretty easy take away from watching Tampa Bay knock our Richards in the dirt with impunity.

Yes the league has changed from Neanderthal Hockey. But your cup winner certainly has a good bit of snarl, as did most teams that went far. Even having a guy like Maroon to compliment Woods was a help to NJ.. Toughness is an asset. Just in today's league the tough guys need to be able to play hockey too. I don't want anything to do with Lucic's contract but NJ's softness was a problem.

No Tampa just had more skill, and better players, maybe even coaching

I didnt mean to start any type of heated argument, I just assumed we all watch the NHL and not roller hockey

There will always be a douchebag on the other team you need to handle otherwise we'll just take penalty after penalty from slashin instead of ending it with a hit or a fight.

Tampa definitely had more skill and better players. Coaching is harder to quantify, but sure. They probably do. But they ran us took an ass load of liberties with our players with little concern about a response. We wouldn't have beat them if we were tougher because they're that much better but that doesn't mean toughness isn't still a need.

Remember when MoJo got his top knocked off by baby Marchand and NOTHING happened to him? poop like that is just not acceptable, even in todays league.

This exactly. There is no amount of grit that would have stopped them from scoring goals and toughness doesn't put goals in the back of the net. I would first rather have good puck possession players who can skate and shoot and if "toughness" and "grittiness" comes with it that is just a bonus.

You don't want guys like Lucic on your team, but you'd obviously take a Corey Perry.

Not sure if its an age thing, but on Boston, Lucic was excellent. He was the whole package. Not sure what happened but if Oils eat 2 mil I'd do it in a heartbeat. But i get your point.

Even five years ago the league was a lot slower. If you look at our cup team from '12 we weren't a fast squad by standards of the time. The league has sped up a lot in the past couple of seasons and that's why you're seeing the idea of "power forward" being phased out. There is definitely a place for a big guy who plays physical in front of the net, but he also needs to be able to shoot and skate.

I think you're starting to see an evolution of the position. Miles Wood is the kind of hybrid power forward guy that we could in the future. Not necessarily the most skilled but incredibly fast and can play with an edge.

Lucic is signed for five more years. I wouldn't want him on our team for league minimum so if Draistl isn't coming with him too or the Oilers' first round draft pick for the next 3 years, I wouldn't even entertain taking him. He is pure dogpoop and completely useless.

De hann sounds like a perfect candidate for the team. He can play defense and can maybe chip in from every once in a while.

A solid 19 point season for him if he’s signed.

1. Yes on de Haan. I just feel sorry for him if he's slotting in 1-2. Not sure he's worthy of that.

2. No to Neiderreiter if Ennis is coming along. If you owned the team, would you pay 8 million dollars for a fringed second liner? The right answer is "interjection no".

3. No to Lucic. Size still important in NHL. The Kings and the Bruins won three, and the Caps just grinded theirs out. Sure, if you have Malkin, Crosby, and Kessel on your team, or Toews, Kane, Keith, you can get away with that, but if not, you gotta grind to win in playoffs.

It's one year of Ennis and yes I would if my GM pointed out the Devils only made the playoffs by one point and could very well miss this year if the Panthers or Islanders have a better year and that Neiderreiter is a great player who'll help the Devils return to the playoffs and more than make up for Ennis with the playoff revenue.
