If Saad stays and continues to skate on the line with #19, the third winger has to be able to skate with them. I don't see the guy out there that isn't going to be a "swallow very hard for many years" kind of contract. I would love James Neal, but I don't know how much he has left in the tank, especially in the next season after that playoff run. And the contract to secure him.... |

Neither are logical. JVR is priced out the Hawks market. Period. We could get de Haan, but it's gonna take more than 1.7 to get it done. - kwolf68
And you answered your earlier post, the list for the most part is not logical. Neal is gonna sign for a yr at 30 yrs old????
At the list's cap hit and term, yea sign 5 of them cuz they are all way under the cap hit they will end up being and be gone in 1-2-3 yrs a term the list gives that is stupid.
Sign 7 of them.

Don't get all this Murphy love? I understand he's one of the rare size defenders we have, but i honestly wonder who would win between Seabrook and Murphy in which player had the quicker first 3 steps, Murphy first step is sooooo slow. - BetweenTheDots
Not to mention the miscast usage of Murphy out of the gate - big body playing patty cake poke check defense.
Comes back to defensive scheme. Players not slotted to play to their strengths and/or away from their weaknesses. |

JVR isn't coming to Chicago. He's going to max out in a bidding war, a war the Hawks can't play in. JVR is this year's special "Who is going to vastly overpay for this guy" poster child. Hawks need to address their pathetic center options. Though I do like the two D-men you mention. de Haan could be in top 4 and GP could be a capable bottom guy. If you bring in those two, other D-men would need to be moved out, maybe for a CENTER. - kwolf68
Agreed, but I did specify at these cap hits. |

Sign up for Hockey TV and watch 100 kids tryout for this yrs USA Ivan Hlinka team. The first look at kids who will be drafted next June........ Plenty to keep a hockey fan engaged.

I also don't get all this Corey speculation either. I'm hoping he'll be healthy and the starter this season. I'm hoping Wards deal is below $3 mil otherwise if we suck we won't be able to trade him for picks. Blackhawks are doing what the Cubs did, i hope, sign guys to one year deals and trade them for draft picks, hopefully we make the playoffs but... |

Or until 7/1 when UFAs can be signed. Two more slow days.... |

Yep. Interesting, too, how the Karlsson hype has pretty much gone away. |

Also curious to see how and where Forsling and Ruuta are this year, developmentally. If these two can resemble a top 4 dman that would be great. I also have a funny feeling Seabrook worked his ass off this summer, he was a bit embarrassed by his play last year. Who knows who and where the Captain will be? |

Ward is official? - Hank3Henshaw
McKenzie and Lebrun have it done.
I guess nothing is official until Sunday, but that one they are putting in the "done" category. |

Can't wait for the Hawks to sign Versteeg. |

I think Rutta might be a good notch up from last year. I think Saad will be another one who might come back this season with a chip on his shoulder a bit. |

I agree on this one about Murphy's foot speed and he's still young. I like him though and think if he played with more confidence (i.e., not benched earlier), he'd be better. |

I know Bowman gets a lot of criticism here, but it seems to me the Penguins are following the same strategy to be Cup competitive. Give away draft picks, and send a low cost productive forward, with an overpaid one just to shed salary. Johnson eeewwwww, but if he helps get to the promise land |

Agree with both of these. Rutta looked good early last year and Saad is poised to rebound. |

Yep. Was thinking the same thing.
I'm not as anti-Bowman as a lot of folks on here. I mean, at the end of the day, it's a group effort by the front office to decide on what to do player-wise.
Bowman is just an easy target because as the GM, you're the "face" of everything. |

Check Maroon of of the list - six teams in on him - reported salary range around $5MM AAV - he gone
Habs after Roussel - Bergie will overpay for him because Shaw is a shell of his former self - he gone
JVR talking to the Bruins (Nash probably retiring if I were to bet) and likely more teams too, so he's looking for a max deal - he gone
Tavares, Panarin, Stastny, Skinner, ROR - pick one and its all you get. Not enough help.
Que up "We like our team" and CC's triumphant return at the Convention. Unless, out of desperation to make moves to overpay for Faulk, or sign Jim Hendry style players to one year deals like Lucic or Nash.
Or...he could surprise us all and make a good deal or two. We will all know Sunday/Monday who is left to pick from.

Seabrook is more useful than Lucic. - L_B_R
Disagree. Usually with ya but not here.
If its a straight up Seabrook for Lucic swap the Hawks save $ and at least Lucic's useless money will stand in front of the net on the power play and he has finish ability that should help.
Anyway to get out of the Seabrook deal would be a godsend for Bowman. The Oilers are this dumb. We'll see.
Seabrook has a full NMC right ? So Its probably a moot point anyways. |
