This has nothing to do with Panarin not liking the pierogies and borscht in Columbus.

Any agent would wait to see what James Neal, JVR and Paccioretty get on the open market in the next couple of weeks. And they already knows what Evander Kane and Kovalchuk got and how much Lucic makes.

Panarin is going to get $9-10M from somebody eventually.

- RickJ

I don't disagree....the original post had Columbus NOT wanting to sign Panarin which is 100% false.

panarin has been betting on himself for awhile, and I haven't dove into STL cap situation but it wouldn't surprise me to see AP play out this year and go skate with his buddy Tarasenko.

Well then...Jack Hughes come on down! Or Kaapo Kakko. Draft him for the name alone.

Not questioning JJ's sources but a move for 3 yrs for Ward at a cap hit more than his last one or to be the Hawks' #1 makes little to no sense. Not that they wouldn't do something like that but it's plain dumb.

Lou after a Crow makes sense. He understands the value a of a top tier #1 and with his history of giving up an 8(?) for Schroeder and IIRC he was the guy behind acquiring Andersen in Toronto.

As an aside if Lou is talking about Crow does that mean he's comfortable in Crow's health?

Actually Ward’s last contact was two years at $3.3m. Personally I wouldn’t want him (if that’s what we’re going to do) for any more than one year at about half of that amount of money, say $1.5m - $1.75m

I would do it in a heartbeat as long as Lucic plays physical. Good net front presence and tough. Seabs deal is going to get tougher the longer we wait.
- vandymeer23

Agree here if Lucic can still contribute and the Oil take part of the hit or enable us to get a big contract off the books. He had the world’s most electrifying player on his line and put up so-so numbers.

Not sure why but getting Lucic reminds me of when we got Chris Simon and that Nikolishin center for Nylander in the early 2000’s. Horrible trade. Simon played slow and with lack of interest while Nylander really helped the Caps.

Spoke with Gerry Johannson of The Sports Corp., Lucic's agent.
He has not heard from Chiarelli, nor any other teams today re: a Lucic deal.
Also, Lucic due $3.5 M bonus payment July 1.
May be smoke. No fire at this point however.

That was kind of my feeling too, assuming he is going to be the backup. If the plan is to bring in a CC replacement, I'm really hoping they'd aim higher, as I don't have confidence in Ward as a #1 right now. Ward would probably be a good mentor for a young goalie and if the team is going to rebuild, then I could see signing him as platoon goalie with Forsberg to help him become the new #1.

I agree. Has to be cheap.

I can't find it but curious if Forsberg would have to pass through waivers to be sent down. Would be nice if capfriendly would make that information available.

He is not waiver exempt.

Edit: It is noted on cap friendly with the little green down arrow if they are.

If Crawford cannot go, then Ward is going to be a slightly better Glass backing up Forsberg imo. Doesn't particularly help much but I guess it's better than nothing? Ward's just one of the worst goalies in the NHL for like a decade and it's weird to me people are so happy with him.

Also, idk if Ward is worse than some of those guys - Hutton hasn't ever been a good backup, last year's abnormal performance is clouding people's opinion of him; Lehtonen hasn't had an average season in 4 years; Bernier is somewhat inconsistent, two good years followed by 2 mediocre. Halak is the most consistent not bad of that group, I guess.

- L_B_R

This. The group at best is not bad. Pick any one of them and the important thing is do not give him more than 2 yrs and over pay for one that will take 1 yr........ None are long term answers except for maybe Lehner or the lefty from WPG. Nothing more than a a 1 yr improvement on the horror show that was last yr in goal.

I think Lucic only happens if you move Seabrook because their contracts are pretty much on the same playing field.

Uncle Lou L. tells people nothing, he just goes and does it and answers questions later. He acquired Corey Schneider from Vancouver for the pick that turned out to be Bo Horvath and yes he snapped up Freddie Anderson from the Ducks. Marty Brodeur showed him that you don't win nuthin in the NHL without a top drawer netminder.

The situation with CC is a bit mystifying. Without him or somebody of equivalent calibre between the pipes, the Hawks go nowhere in the Central Division.

- RickJ

An understatement. With him not being on the ice in 5 months the Hawks it would seem, along with a list of other things, have to be tired of his act whether some things are his fault or not.

Same was said about Debrincat. (Granted Defenders generally take longer to develop, but there are exceptions.)
- -Doh-

And my opinion is that AdB’s development as a complete hockey player would have been enhanced with some time in Rockford.

That may be but I'm just thinking on the level of too much term for the $ and age. Two contracts that don't look good in the second half of the deal.
