Not questioning JJ's sources but a move for 3 yrs for Ward at a cap hit more than his last one or to be the Hawks' #1 makes little to no sense. Not that they wouldn't do something like that but it's plain dumb.
- Mr Ricochet

i saw somewhere the ward deal will be for 1 year.

See EK rumor about Lucic

One possibility. Just matching salaries. Lucic and RNH ($12mil cap hit) for Seabs and AA ($11.425 mil Cap hit).Maybe a few other pieces going both ways. I am not crazy about that deal for either team.

Edmonton gets rid of Lucic for Seabs a 2nd pairing defender.
Edmonton sends their #3c RNH (behind McJesus and Draisaitl) to the Hawks and get a #3c (Anisimov) back. RNH would be a good #2c for the Hawks.

Hawks would then have to use any available cap space for one or two top 4 defenders.

JJ's latest info on The Rink

https://www.the-rink.com/...fa-targets-plan-emerging/

And regarding the Ward deal, it appears it may be more then we think. Is that to secure Ward into coming here? Still say CC isnt healthy. And Connor Murphy being shopped hard??? Fn dumb. This team has not learned. He the type of big/strong stay at home clear the crease type we need.

If Jokiharju is in the Chicago line-up at 19 - with no pro experience - then they are doing a disservice to his hockey - and personal - development.

Has it been determined whether or not he can go to Rockford this coming season or must he go back to Finland?

- StLBravesFan

Same was said about Debrincat. (Granted Defenders generally take longer to develop, but there are exceptions.)

Friedman and McKenzie have both said it's likely 1 year, though someone else (LeBrun?) said it might be 2.

Ian Cole would be a good place to start.
- RickJ

I agree. Could be a nice add.

Call me crazy, but I think Ward signing has more to do with CC starting on IR then anything else....all 2012-13 (if there hadn't been a strike) for Hossa.

Would love to have a big/bruising Forward like Lucic.

yes, I know he's slow, but I think he'd be a better fit on the Hawks than the Oil.

If the asking price for Faulk is Saad as has been speculated, why not expand the deal and do it?
To Carolina: Saad, Anisimov, Ruuta +prospect (defenceman)
To Chicago: Faulk, Staal, Darling (at full cap hit)

This would help solve our D, C, and G problem in one deal.

- 67hawks

Staal is done. To many concussions. This wouldn't be a bad trade
to Carolina: Saad Anisimov hossa and rutta or a d prospect
to Chi: Faulk Darling and prospects Carrick [big hitter tough] and Roy [young center]
I would do it.

I think regardless of who is brought in, this coaching staff needs to find a way to get everyone on the same page with their defensive structure. There simply were way too many times last year where either players were out of position to defend, or not covered on a pinch, or chasing the puck, etc...

At this point, I wouldn't really mind if they traded everyone and started over from scratch on D. Unless Keith comes back with a vengeance this year, there isn't a top tier D-man on the roster. Get everyone to understand and execute their responsibilities and you will have much better results.

- Chunk

Totally agree with the first half, not as much the 2nd half. It’s easy to lay much of the blame on the defensemen, but to my eye far too often they were hung out to dry.

I don’t know how many times I saw forwards caught out of position with three in deep behind the net. Neutral zone pressure by forwards was frequently non existent. Defensemen were at times trapped in our end with minimal or no outlet choices.

Now this doesn’t let the Defensemen off the hook, Seabrook and Keith were often slow to get back or just plain couldn’t stick with their man. Others pinched when they shouldn’t have and at times appeared to not know where they belonged or should be going.

Bottom line is the team often seemed like they were not on the same page, sometimes not even in the same book.

Correct..........that was worse than Panarin for Saad....... and I love Panarin too.

I've seen the Hull, Mikita, Savard days as a STH but nobody ignited the TEAM like Jeremy Roenick. He did it all and was totally mistreated by the organ I zation. He is my all time favorite Hawk.

I would do it in a heartbeat as long as Lucic plays physical. Good net front presence and tough. Seabs deal is going to get tougher the longer we wait.

You are so unbelievably clueless when it comes to Panarin.

When Washington started to play big boy hockey - Panarin did his usual spring disappearing act. The last four games of that series - Panarin had 0 points and was a -6.

So please just get over your man love with him. There is a reason why he was traded - and a reason why Columbus is in no hurry to resign him.

If a contending team pays him - it will cost that G.M. his job.

- dahawks8819

You do realize Columbus WANTS to resign him but panarin is not interested, at this time?

Just clearing that up.

I'm hearing a 1-year deal.

If that's the case I can see it being in the 2.5-3M range.

Lol, I was at the first game they lost in Columbus. Panarin was hands down the most electric player on the ice. He is an incredible talent and he is the one who said he wasn't ready to talk about a contract extension so you are incorrect about a lot of things there.

The team with 3 hall of fame calibre players and the better coach won. On paper and behind the bench and on the ice Washington was better as they should have been.

Panarin was traded because in a years time he will cost 9 or 10 million and Saad will cost 6 for the next few. Pretty simple math.

- fattybeef

The hatred for panarin on here by some is comical. When Bowman signed him for 2 years and 6 million, you knew where that was going LT and the Hawks couldn't afford it.

NOw as far as Saad goes....turning point in his career....he either bounces back or becomes a 6 million anchor that needs to go in March.

Not so sure about this, In the days of Dollar Bill Wirtz, though, it is guaranteed that at least 75% of the blame goes to the organization. Even with the teams issues today, we'd be comparing apples and rotten, worm infested apples.

If I'm told otherwise from HB crew, I will let you know but it doesn't bother me. I want to promote as much Blackhawks' talk as possible!

This has nothing to do with Panarin not liking the pierogies and borscht in Columbus.

Any agent would wait to see what James Neal, JVR and Paccioretty get on the open market in the next couple of weeks. And they already knows what Evander Kane and Kovalchuk got and how much Lucic makes.

Panarin is going to get $9-10M from somebody eventually.

Roenick's ego got the best of him, and you had a cheap owner.

Past is in the past.....Honestly, I don't know if we will see 27 or 28 in the rafters as I don't see either getting in the HOF. 24 may have the best shot out of the 3 of them.

Wilson, BTW, and I know he hasn't won a cup......but he's reloading San Jose....again for another run.

I thought no way, he's drafted out of Major Junior and is therefore subject to the CHL/NHL Indentured Servitude clause. I just can't remember the comparison but read in The Athletic, Powers I believe, that another player (Nylander?) under exact circumstances was allowed to go to the AHL as a 19 yr old. The work around was Nylander was "loaned" to Mississuaga from his Swedish team the yr he was drafted and the Hawks are claiming the same thing.

Haven't read that its settled yet though.
