Until they trade Gus/AA to make room for all 3 of those guys.

"Russo Update
Traded Sunday to the Arizona Coyotes, the price the Red Wings acquired for defenseman Robbie Russo was a conditional 2019 NHL entry draft pick."

What is this? Why is this worded so terribly? Stick to copy and paste Duff.

not a fan of trading AA. him and larkin are the only two guys who possess blazing speed and can actually finish. Helm obviously but he has stone hands.

Im a big fan of them sucking enough to get Hughes. Its possible. Howard is the only thing standing in the way of this.

The defense will be bad again with Cholowski / Hronek and others still learning.

Same up front with Svech, Zadina, Rasmussen.

If you get Hughes you have him and Larkin as your `1-2 for a long time. I know Rasmussen is a C too but they could have him switch back and forth from winger.

You could have

Zadina Hughes Rasmussen
Bertuzzi/Svechnikov Larkin Mantha

Which would be amazing. The Wings shopping Howard rumors I somewhat buy, knowing Hughes is available next year. Plus with Howard, Krownwall, and possible Hank(LTIR) off the books next year, there would be plenty of $$$ for a smooth skating RH defensemen.

Yeah. They can draft Hughes, whoever they want, doesnt matter if you dont have goalending. They need to find a goalie to eventually supplant Howard.

Their going to have cap space going forward. with kronwall retiring thats another 4-5 mill off the books. they have like 20 mill now even after signing bert/frk.

BOB is also a FA next year, and I have a hard time believing CBJ doesn't roll with their young tender.

There is always a goalie to be had for a fairly reasonable price. For example, Grubauer, Bishop, mrazek lol....

Glad to hear they're giving Frk another year to prove himself and hopefully put up points on a more consistent basis. I think he still has some upside. Being on the 4th line with Glendening is not the best scenario to put up points but he'll have to battle through it. This team needs youth and there's not much to lose with keeping him on.

Hope Holland's offer to Green falls through. Really don't want Vanek back either. Holland just can't stop himself by signing some older vets to the detriment of our young players/prospects... we've all seen this for over a decade. Our young core and prospects really need to step in and battle for roster spots. I really hope AA can take it to the next level like I think he's capable and up points on a more consistent basis. That would be a huge plus for this goal-starved team.

Sven... you have my vote for blogger. Your posts are always insightful. I do miss Mark Spizziri also.

The plan should be trade Howard then resign McCollum and start him the whole year to ensure the tank for Hughes.

Meh at this point I would prefer the youth to develop in at least a competitive environment.

I agree, but our contracts situation needs another year after this coming season to open spots imo.

Forward wise is already manageable.

On D. Kronwall is done in 1 year. Ericsson, Daley and even DeKeyser should be buyout options next year.

See I’d rather wait the two years instead of buying out both Ericsson and Daley. Dekeyser on the other hand......

Plus the FA class in two years is deep, granted that’s looking at it now without knowing who won’t have signed a new deal come that time.

Daley traded at the deadline to a contender.

Errorson can be a healthy in 2019/2020 as they won't be contending at that time.
