Hawks last draft pick is winger Josiah Slavin, Jaccob's brother.

UFA market is the way to go.

Teams want too much in trades for guys, and what little the Hawks have in trade chips would either hurt too much to lose, arent enough to get them what they need, or have NMCs and/or albatross contracts.

And again, UFA-based deals remove Stan and the FO from trade negotiations altogether.

Which also means no action there until at least 7/1.

Stan Bowman declined to reveal whether or not the Blackhawks are among the five teams that will talk with John Tavares.

Not a chance the Hawks are involved...and why would Tavares have interest in the Hawks? ...a club on the decline.

Besides, Tavares wants about 12M a year...

Go sign a top 4 D and JVR and call it a summer. Maybe AA gets moved for goalie help.

Cause he could play with Kane, one of the best RWs in the league? Be a 1-2 punch with Toews? Go to one of the few teams that has won a cup (or 3) in the least decade? One with lots of good young forwards but in need of centers? Being coached by a future HOF, who was the pick by players as a coach they'd most like to play for? With an a org with a sparkling rep with players and who is known for paying their stars big money?

Nah, he'd have no interest lol. It's unlikely Tavares will go with the Hawks but the Hawks are still though of as a great destination for players.

Really, GMs can't legally say they're going to speak to him or not until midnight when the UFA talk window opens. They can say interest but not whether they'll talk. Otherwise it's tampering. Also, there is sense that Tavares is now staying with the Islanders but is using this as leverage and to gain a sense of how much he will ask for ultimately.

With the draft the Islanders had and Trotz coming in, I would not leave Long Island if Im Tavares.

Mark my words, Tavares will get 19 money or better, so no matter the interest, the cost alone is a non-starter.

And he most likely won't. Tavares biggest concern was staying on a team that wasn't doing enough to be a winner and they've done everything in their power to prove to him that they are going to contend soon. New GM, new coach, great up and coming players, said they'll be active with trades and FA... Honestly, Barzal alone would have made me want to stay - that's a 1-2 punch down the middle that will be amazing for years to come imo.

What do we know about him and Hakkarainen? I can't find anything other than stats.

Thoughts on going after Robin Lehner to back up Crow this year?

That would be fine by me...

...but I don't expect that to happen either.

Just a gut feeling mind you...I just have close to zero optimism for the Hawks organization, players and front office, at the moment.

So to salvage this up coming season, JVR will have to be a priority, then D. And then somehow find net minder help. If Stan fails to land the needed pieces this summer, he is DONE! And most likely another top 10 draft next year.

No. 139 — Mikael Hakkarainen, center, Muskegon (USHL)

The Blackhawks drafted their third center of the day by taking the 20-year-old Hakkarainen in the fifth round.

Hakkarinen had 15 goals and 31 assists in 36 games for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL last season. He grew up in Finland and has played in North America the last three seasons. He played part of the 2016-17 season with the Chicago Steel. He will play at Providence College next season.

“He played in Muskegon, going to Providence College,” Kelley said. “I think what attracted us to him was, when you went and saw him play, he got on the scoresheet but even if he wasn’t on the scoresheet you noticed him play. He played hard, 200-foot.”

No. 193 — Josiah Slavin, forward, Lincoln (USHL)

The Blackhawks added another college-bound forward by taking the 19-year-old Slavin in the seventh round.

Slavin, who is 6-foot and 161 pounds, had 23 goals and 19 assists in 60 games with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL last season. He is expected to play in the USHL again next season and then attend Colorado College.

“We like the project there,” Kelley said. “We think where he is on the curve he’s gonna play another year and then go to Colorado College. We just like the whole project.”

Slavin is an overager - he'll be 20 in December.

MaxPac has apparently parted ways with his agent, Brisson, though.

Interesting - Matthews dumped him recently, too. Wonder if he's still repping Crosby, Kane, and Toews?

Bowman said they'll make decisions on re-signing Jurco and Duclair in the coming days.

Jurco...why bother.

Duclair...I'd be ok with him sticking around.

Yes Hutton also also former boston back up all good options. Hawks need to move hossa's contract before july 1 if they want to be serious players in free agency plus i do think AA gets moved also just gut feeling for a young center or goalie

Repping C,K and T is pretty easy these days seeing that they're locked up for eternity.

After the 4-0 a$$ whoopin to the Preds and this dismal last season??? ALOT has to go right this year. The team has major holes. And major question marks at key positions.

Sure, but at any point, did you maybe think to idk wait to see what happens before declaring it a bad off-season? Again, the UFA talking window hasn't even opened, it's just stupid early in the off-season to already be angsting lol.

I haven't. That's why I said Stan really needs to fill the holes come FA. Not angsting either. Stating the obvious.

Boqvist is a premium talent. You always draft BPA. Even though we have quite a few defensive prospects, none are at Boqvist’s level of raw talent.

If you’re feeling down just go look up his highlights.
