Love what Calgary obtained yesterday-with Hanifin seems - Hamilton is a locker room issue
- Colbyboy

Interesting quote about Hamilton and his being traded again (3rd team in 4 years):

In an interview with Fan 960, Sportsnet's John Shannon said: "The whole team would go for lunch at Moxies, and Dougie Hamilton would go to the museum."

So not sure if Hamilton is the locker room issue or if he just has social anxiety and a tough time fitting in anywhere he goes (shy, reclusive, introverted, whatnot), i.e. goes to the movies alone because others don't like having him around or he is uncomfortable being around others in social situations.

Wonder if having his brother Freddie helps him in any way whether to smooth over any cancerous behaviors or help him feel at ease if he is socially anxious. They were teammates for a few years in Calgary.

I checked several sites that showed Draft grades and they seemed to favor what we did. B+ seems to be the standard although I even saw one A.

Remember when everyone was all TVR sucks? Now they want him back. Go figure.
- Elbows15

I know right?!?!

I was always a TvR fan, I didn’t think he was a superstar but he is a quality depth d-man. It would be nice to see the VR brothers playing together for the Hawks next season.

Maybe Dougie is more cultured than the average hockey player.

Hey Darth hope your summer is going well. Always liked the kid. Played decently enough and Q trusted him. Didn't want him moved especially when you look at the depth issues on defense. What's his status?

I'd like to see them get Maroon, but as Elbows I think mentioned he's going to want to get paid. Hoping the Hossa contract is going to be moved so they get some space but its going to cost.

Hopefully Stan's going to get several mid level solid UFAs here. Wouldn't mind Roussell either - he's one of those hate to play against guys. And the Hawks certainly need more jam on this team. Will they bring back Wingles?

Also wondering if they'll take a shot at bringing the Breadman back next summer?

Should be an interesting couple of weeks here.

I get the sense, unfortunately, that this Cubs team will experience the same fate as the '85 Bears. One and done. Hope i'm wrong, but I just can't shake that sense for some reason.
- BobP.

I'm there as well. The same inconsistencies as last year....too many strikeouts because of poor strikezone awareness. I can't believe some of the pitches these guys swing at sometime.
Do they actually analyze their at-bats after they're done ??? They have to lead MLB in swings at pitches outside the zone....same as last year.

They need a true hitter in the middle of that lineup. Somebody that will hit for high average and put the ball in play because good pitching will destroy this lineup post season once again.

Let's go Theo and Jed....you know the move that's needed !!

I would rather have a Cole /Polak type signing on a one year deal. If we are out by the TDL, flip them for assets. Those type of D are always in demand for playoff runs.
- 67hawks

I agree with you there, but my only concern is, you bring those two guys in, only to have Q Jag those guys off like he did Kempney and Franzen. And Bouma. You don’t think this year is free agents didn’t take note of that last season.

That's a lot for a 3C. Try to remember Forsling is still only 21-22. We saw glimpse of how good he can be last season. I wouldn't be so quick to get rid of him just yet.
- Elbows15

I wouldn't want to give them Forsling, but to take AA's full salary, and Hossa's cap hit for 3 years, it's gonna cost us something more than a Svedberg. Keep in mind that gives us another $7M in cap space. When's the last time we had $16M to spend in an off-season?

Polak is terrible. Cole is just a guy. Apparently the Pens didn't think they needed him for a playoff run. Honeslty don't think either are better than what they currently have.

They're both, at best, #6s and the Hawks have plenty of bottom pairing guys.

Franson was so desired, no one wanted him for free. Or Bouma either. Wonder why.

Panarin dream my friend. I don't see Stan ever doing that because that would be an admission of a mistake. ....a HUGE one at that. That should have cost him his job !!

AA salary is perfectly in line for what he is. Pageau isn't worth all that. Hell, they would actually be doing Melnyk a favor trading Hossa's contract to the Sens.

IMO, moving Hossa's contract would nice but it isn't worth giving away assets to accomplish.

Yeah, he's pretty much replacement level.

As for Cole, Idm him as a #6 Rozsival type but that only works if the 4-5 above him are strong or the forward core + goalie is stellar. He'd have fit in fine on a 2013-2015 team, but the Hawks currently just don't need an extra bottom guy. They need to be looking at the De Haans of UFA or the Faulks of trades if they're trying to upgrade the defense in a meaningful way.

Honestly, best two outcomes to me: 1) find a guy who can skate with Keith and it has a ripple effect of putting the others in their proper place or 2) find a capable #3 that can help balance the TOI for the entire group, closer to what Anaheim did in 2015, Pens did in 2017, and Vegas did this past playoffs.

Polak is a nasty SOB who would be a perfect 6-7/PK guy. That guy would keep the crease clear.

Polak isn't any of that. Except a cheap shot artist who still can't stop hitting guys from behind. He is not a good player. I prefer guys who can get out of their own zone. Polak bleeds SAT against.

Now we can see more clearly how the next few years probably shake out. It is not all bad but Rocky needs to temper his expectations if, indeed, he is somewhat disallusioned with their performance last year. It may be that he is or upset with the effort from his top playerss last yeat than anything else.

Bowman does not appear too concerned as we heard little about them actually close to trading a draft choice. A very likely outcome came about after they made inquiries, maybe some offers but were rebuffed. As part of a rebuild churns along slowly - because they do not want really suck - there was probably a limit to what Bowman would surrender in a trade. He will try to do what he can in free agency. Without the Hossa contract moved, throwing a top market dollars at a dman may be his best recourse. I Cole cannot play at speed, either, which is why he sat in his second year in Pittsburgh and then was traded. If you go for Cole then know that either him or Murphy is to be used as a second pair. Which is out of their element.

I bet both Toews and Seabrook play secondary minutes until the time comes when their on ice ability has decreased badly enough to warrant press box visitation. May come about after one more season? Which coincidentally is when SOME prospects begin to pop up in Chicago

You think next draft Bowman would consider a Wahlstrom or Tkachuk type? That power forward is last on his to acquire list. I think he hopes the grit and size and power forward comes from finding a lower draft choice who develops.

This all probably makes Z3 a happy camper. Myself and I am sure some of the fanbasr not ahteeing 100% but understand Bownan"s direction.
