Good enuf to win a championship and get to the LCS the next year - and in a playoff position now (Wild Card, but still....) even after losing to the Reds.
- StLBravesFan

Enough with the cubs they 1 championship in a 108 years and treated like they gods.
Cubs are going to be the braves of the 90's get year after year get close but don't win another one. Come back to me when both the bears sox and cubs win multiple championships.

No if trade Saad create another whole to fill unless hawks are getting what Calgary got young LW/RW and top 4 dman for him. Hawks need to move hossa's contract before next sunday. Be nice to move AA contract also, what ever team takes on hossa's contract it will be dead money for 3 years so what floor teams are out there to his contract. Ottawa might be the only team since they are in turmoil.

Phily be a team to watch if hawks think about trading saad. Hagg Sanhiem Morin Konecky!!!!! Here is a question to the panel would trade Debricant for a top 4 dman or second line center with size grit and good on faceoffs and if so what teams and who?

Ok fine....the Hawks can throw in their 2019 1st, DeBrincat and retain 50% of Saad’s contract.

This is not what successful businesses -- and the Hawks are first and foremost a business -- do. Moreover, trading away fan favorites and starting over does not insure ultimate success: example Edmonton. Instead, I suggest a new coach if the team starts out poorly. Jeremy Colliton, Come on down!
- BMWChiFan

It’s exactly what successful businesses that are struggling do - restructure, spin off losing operations, close non-contributing locations, drop and/or replace overhead personnel, look for new directions - products, strategies....

Applied to the Blackhawks: they are struggling on-ice and at the box-office - only 85% season ticket renewal rate.

A possible solution? Yeah, move out under-performing players, go in a new direction....

Note I said “possible solution”.

Hope you and the family are well as well.

I'll admit I was surprised by the Boqvist pick, but by a number of accounts the Hawks reportedly had a really good draft. I didn't catch where Wiz graded it but according to Pronman's take they were one of 6 teams rating a B+ or better.

As you say, time will tell, just like it will with last year's deals. I think Saad very likely bounces back this year making that deal more palatable.

Also, Forsberg is actually a backup goalie and was more than fine in that role. He had to assume a starter role and was ok at times not so much others but if he continues to work with Waite, I think he'll be ok. If they want to get someone to compete with him I'm fine with that.

I also think Murphy will be fine and that keeping Hammer and Panarin last year wouldn't have meant a trip to the playoffs...so agree to disagree.

FA hasn't even happened yet so at least give Stan a chance to (frank) it up and add it your growing list of poopty summers.

Kidding aside, yes, we shall see.

- HawkintheD

Hey D good to hear from you...
I like ROR's list. Maroon and Broziak...Moore...Roussell? I don't know about JVR too much term and cash? Any thoughts on them going after Stastny?

Can Stan get say 4 decent FAs with all that cap space...he still needs to move Hossa's cap hit and that's going to cost. Let's hope Boqvist's ceiling is high. Hawks in general took speed and scoring...not so much about size.

Is Stan going to go all in with several veteran FA's and try to take one more shot at a Cup here. All of it depends on the health of Crawford. We all know a healthy #50 can carry this team. But take a look at the Preds and Jets - there's a lot of work to do here.

Stan will need to move quickly and I'm hoping that this will be a good summer for him as opposed to the last several. If not its time to move on. We'll see what happens.

So who realistically can they bring in to help the team this year. On the assumption that Crawford is back.

Not much out there in the free agent center ranks to bolster that area. Maybe Vermette, though he and Q didn't always see eye to eye.

Probably priority one on any adds will be "helps the special teams."

- jrsamu

Vermette has been a replacement level player for a few years now - he's not helping any team. If you guys thought Sharp was done, then you're not going to want someone with a fork stuck in them like Vermette either.

85% renewal but then they quickly filled the rest with new season ticket owners so why does that matter? Just because some decided it was time to stop doesn't mean there was several people still ready to go. They sold out every game last year so they were not struggling at the box-office in the end. That could definitely change but it's not there yet.

Vermette is too old and done. I will be surprised if anyone gives him a contract.

But it is the start of a trend which will continue if the team does not improve. Rocky has to be concerned. If these renewal rates continue or drop further eventually your waiting list dries up.

Please explain to me how Tavares feels he deserves Toew/Kane money? He has won nothing yet!

When will GM's learn - Don't pay players before they prove themselves.

- powerenforcer

He’s a consistent point per game player, pretty sure he’s proved himself. Individuals do not win championships, not his fault management couldn’t put together a decent team!

Successful businesses don’t wait until the hammer drops to take corrective action.

85% renewal can quickly become 70% or 60% and at some point the replacement money isn’t there.

Then there’s TV (and streaming) ratings and merchandise sales and all the othe ancillary revenue streams....

Why would the Hawks draft a player at 8 who has had 25 concussions?
- Z3Hawk

Its 38 and really you don’t need to start worrying until at least #60.

Agreed, and I really don’t want to see Saad moved. While he had an off season last year he’s the type of winger the Hawks need.

If anyone needs to be moved to create cap space for a free agent or trade I’d expect it to be Anisimov. Maybe Murphy gets dealt but I still think he’ll be better next season and he has a very reasonable cap hit.

Still crossing my fingers that Stan can sign JvR.

Successful businesses don't toss the product when it is still making them money, either. They're not going to jettison their proven money-making players until they are for sure that they cannot make money from them anymore. A full rebuild guarantees less money, so they're not going to go that route until they absolutely have to and they're most def not there yet.

Khoudobin
Moore
Sustr
Roussel
Maroon
Brodziak

Try to work a deal with OTT for Hossa’s deal, a way to get Pageau - we have 4000 D guys now, AA, Duclair....good low to low-mid contracts just right for OTT’s wheelhouse.

And you could get all of these guys with the cap you have to work with on short term deals. Gives you time to see if the vaunted core can mount self-respect again, and if they dont - blow it all up. No added long term contracts and a new CBA around the corner.

The JVR/Tavares/Faulk (and not much else beyond them) approach is not a solution. It adds to the problem. No more albatross contracts.

One thing is for sure - these adds would definitely make this team a lot harder to play against, and give them the sack they lost in the last three years while gving the newbies time to bake in Rockford.

- Return of the Roar

As much as I hate his guts, Roussel is the only one worth anything. Khudobin will be too expensive for a back-up. Moore is 107. Maroon is going to want to get paid. Its his last contract. Sustr sucks. Brodziak had his career year and is also 35.

I would aim younger.

Jay Beagle would be nice one to have. Good in faceoffs and works his butt off.
- MjulQvist

Riley Nash is better. Probably cheaper. Can move up in a pinch. Though, signing Beagle would keep him from scoring against the Hawks every (frank)ing time they play the Caps.

Trade AA and Hossa's contract plus a young D (including Forsling) for Pageau. Sign JVR and DeHaan.

That should leave them plenty of money to add at the TDL, and to sign their FAs next year.

- tvetter

That's a lot for a 3C. Try to remember Forsling is still only 21-22. We saw glimpse of how good he can be last season. I wouldn't be so quick to get rid of him just yet.

I would rather have a Cole /Polak type signing on a one year deal. If we are out by the TDL, flip them for assets. Those type of D are always in demand for playoff runs.
