Sign Kunitz for $1M. Nothing bad can come out of this. |

Buyout. All players need to be unconditionally waived as a precursor. |

Kunitz needs to retire a penguin, would be a nice finishing touch to end his career in the black and gold. Let him spell one of the younger wingers in the top 9 from time to time, play 4th line full time and play on the PK. Martin, at least at this stage in his career, is not an upgrade over Ruhwedel or Oleksiak. |

So I know you're all probably sick to death of the idea of Lucic as a Penguin, but in the interest of that one guy that seems adamant about wanting him, how would this sound?
Lucic with 750k retained to Vegas for futures
Lucic with another 750k retained (cap hit of 4.5mil) to Pittsburgh for Sheary and a 5th
Sheary to Edmonton for a 2019 3rd |

Lucic makes 0 sense for Pittsburgh.
Lucic is a slower skater and big body. Pittsburgh's system calls for smaller and faster players, especially guys who are good skaters (Hagelin, Jake Guentzel, Hagelin, etc.) Lucic makes no sense and I think many of us would pass on him if you offered him to us for nothing. I hope he bounces back whether its in EDM or another team, but it makes 0 sense to bring him here. |

Does anyone think the Pens will try to resign Brassard, considering what JR gave up or more likely he is traded? |

They will certainly see how it goes this next season and what his asking price may be this time next year...if it doesn’t look like a deal will happen I can see getting a pick for his rights this time next year, but yes the pens will be interested in resigning him given he has a good season |

Would rather go after Simmons from the Flyers if we were to do a 3 team trade for a big winger

That one guy is literally the only guy that wants him. The handful of Oil games I watched last year, Lucic was awful and slow. It's wrong direction for us. We'd gladly give you Sheary for a 3rd.....or at least I would (some still like him around here). |

I don't see any way he extends with us. He's already made some noises about not wanting the 3rd line C role.
That's my dark horse move over the next several weeks. I think he could be traded. |

True. Can't imagine Brassard as our 3rd C for long unless Sully turns him into a winger. |

I don't understand why everyone wants to get rid of Brassard. It makes no sense. Dude was hurt in the playoffs, before getting hurt he was riding like a 6 game point streak or something. He's a good hockey player, and him as 3C and pushing Sheahan to 4C is really god damn good center depth. I like Skinner, but I don't think trading Brassard for Skinner is an upgrade. Brassard at 3M > Skinner at 3-5M IMO. |

Nah. I'd rather have Sheary. That Lucic contract is gross. |

I heard rumors that if Brassard was available Montreal was connected and would offer Patches + for him. Truthfully I would rather take Patches over Skinner due to his size for one and I feel he will rebound well with a good center. I am kinda wondering what JR is gonna do. We don't really have a lot of cap space and he is connected to rumors for Patches, Skinner, Faulk, and others. Besides Sheary, Hagelin, Sprong and maybe Jarry. I don't see us having much to offer teams either. |

It's not that I want to trade Brassard and my opinion isn't based on his injured playoff performance. It was obvious he wasn't 100%. I just believe there's a high value for centers and it's possible we could do very well with the return.....not to mention his cap hit is 3mil. I'm viewing it from the asset management angle. I'm assuming a team that acquired him would be able to give him his next contract. We can't.
Beyond that, he's not a traditional 3C. I don't think he's a good PK'r and I'd prefer a 3c that's good in that department. I think we need to upgrade at LW and 4C (if Brass is moved). I believe Sheahan can pretty much handle the things that Bones did for us. |

I cant imagine a plausible scenario where we have a 3C as good as Brassard for $3M without giving up more premium assets. If we trade Brassard and 87 or 71 get hurt, we are right back to Malkin, Sheahan, Rowney, ? as center depth.
Keep Brassard. I think by Christmas time when the lines are more fleshed out, a healthy Brassard will change most peoples minds.
Dont trade Brassard unless its for a 20-23 year old center with upside (like Lindholm). Unlikely anyone does that... |

If thats true then why dont you let Brassard center a 2B line and let Sheahan handle the "Bonino" role. We don't need two Boninos. |

Cause I think we can use Brass and his cap hit to upgrade the LW. I also think you need two centers that can PK. |

I personally dont think Sheahan is good enough to be a long term 3C... but if we did we use Brassard to get a LW upgrade.... how do we get an a 3C? or at least an above average 4C? |
