Aren’t they all lame? Unless you have the first pick the NHL draft is almost always boring/unsurprising.
- John McDonough

ive been watching since 1983 this one is pretty lame as far as good trades.

You know I was just thinking of this. I was livid, screaming my dog went running, when they passed over Fabbri to take a soft as an ice cream cone Schmaltz who I had seen play more than 5 times as a junior and he was allergic to any contact/confrontation.

Honestly it wasn't until Schmaltz' development in the NHL that taught me to defer to paid NHL scouts.

Again, I'm gonna defer to the paid scouts and let Dahlin prove them wrong...... Kid has elite skill.

- Mr Ricochet

I don't see much of anything regarding a lot of the prospect stuff. Maybe some highlight reels. I remember you being pretty vocal about the Hawks passing on Fabbri and grabbing Schmaltz.

I remember watching one of the international tournaments and Schmaltz was fairly invisible and Tyler Motte was all over the place (in a good way) so I was more excited about him at the time.

Who knows...like you said, I'll defer. I'm hoping he turns into the next Erik Karlsson but I'm not going to get too upset til it's readily apparent he sucks.

Rangers just did

EDIT: Guess not.

Yep, Velano still there at 23. This is where not having our 2nd rounder may hurt. No matter a really good prospect will be there at 27.

At 27 Bode Wilde ?

Might as well try to solidify D in the system.

Buy forwards in free agency ?

With Rocky saying there will be major changes if the Hawks don't perform this year, Stan drafts a kid who won't play for 3.
- tvetter

Other than Dahlin and Svechnikov - maybe Koktaniemi - who in the draft at #8 would have helped this year?

I’m ok with Boqvist being perhaps farther away from the Show than other defensemen because it seems his potential upside is higher than others.

Would like to draft him but already a lot of EVEN signed dmen. If Bowman had traded a dman prospect then maybe could have choose your guy.

Don't break my heart!! Unless they trade down for a 2nd rounder. Rather see em use that 27, lotta solid kids still left, Velano being the best, maybe.

Agreed. The draft choice wasn't one to solve an immediate problem.

I'm with you on this one. Boqvist eventually replaces Keith, Wilde eventually replaces Seabrook....

How bout this kid, Wiz?

14. Jesse Ylonen, RW, Espoo-Mestis

Oct. 3, 1999 | six-foot | 167 pounds

GP: 48 | Goals: 14 | Points: 27 | Shoots: Right

Skating: 60
Puck Skills: 60
Physical Game: 40
Hockey sense: 55

Ylonen has played the entire season in Finland’s second division pro league, being good but not great there, and he was the top scorer at both the U19 Five Nations tournament in February and U19 Four Nations in April. His stats aren’t wow-caliber, but I have little doubt he’s a high-end talent who can break open a shift. His skating is high-end, as is his playmaking. He’s incredibly elusive with his skating, able to jet up the ice as well as turn on a dime. He can dangle, but he also makes plays to his teammates well and shows very good instincts. That combination allows him to be a real nuisance coming through the neutral zone and to check overall. He’s more of a playmaker to me, but he has a fine shot and I’ve seen his one-timer and wrist shot be dangerous from a distance. My main criticism of Ylonen is he doesn’t always grind as hard as he should for pucks, and it doesn’t help that his frame is quite slender which led to him struggling when trying to win pucks from men. If he can add bulk to his frame and get to the inside areas a bit more, the sky’s the limit for him.
