So far, indeed! Good for Isles fans, they've been suffering for a long while.

Agreed. 2 great picks. Tavares will resign. God for them. Just need to get the hell out of that dump in Brooklyn.

Or they picked the guy they thought was the best? Like, he's most definitely not the most ready, but he may have the highest ceiling of the d-men not named Dahlin. I was hoping they'd get Hughes because he's like Boqvist but not quite as off from the show.

No idea if Boqvist will end up being the best, just think it's wild so many are dismissing him. Kid is only 17, he's got some growing to do and then we'll see I guess.

Just would prefer a more ready now player. Or when a zadina dropped a bold move to flip picks and throw in the 27.

He could pan out. But he’s had how many concussions? At 17? That’s not s good start.

AFAIK, Toews had two major concussions before he got here. Not saying that's not a red flag, but we've seen at least one guy get a few Cups and play pretty well for about 8 years with that history.

What spot isn't an organIzational need? If the Swede was the best available on their board we have to live with that ........ Anyone that has the Athletic find the article that has advanced stats on the top 20 prospects. See how the Swede compares.
- Mr Ricochet

and there is no denying that Boqvist is a dynamic attacker, and sure, we don't have all that tape on him defending, because he just goes back snags it and flies out.

Gotta love it Tallon takes Alexander Semin clone....

So Boqvist is on the top left? Good game face. He is 6-0 so maybe can put on some weight. Wouldn't have been my first choice but willing to give it some time. None of the choices would have helped this year.

Wouldn't mind K'Andre Miller at 27 if we don't trade out.

From the Athletic

“He’s a Erik Karlsson/John Klingberg kind of player” a Swedish scout said. “He makes plays all over the ice. He’s got all the tools to be a superstar. He needs to get more consistency in his game. He will get more steady with the experience he will get from playing against men next season.”

The Athletic’s Corey Pronman ranked Boqvist as the seventh best player in the draft.
“Boqvist started off his draft season with one of the best Ivan Hlinka performances I’ve seen from a defenseman,” Pronman wrote of him. “He struggled at times at the pro level, but did quite well versus his peer group and projects very well due to his high-end skill set. His hands and IQ all get very high grades. He’s very skilled and creative with the puck, on top of displaying top-level, if not elite, vision.

“He also has great offensive instincts and knows how to jump into the attack and create chances. Boqvist made some of the best passes and most creative plays I saw from any prospect at any level this season. What I love about him is his attacking mindset. He’s always looking to jump up and make a play, looking for opportunities and wants to make a difference in the game. He attacks like a soccer player who will use one touch passes as a way to open seams to get a through pass.

“Boqvist skates well with the ability to lead a rush and he closes his gaps well defensively, but his skating isn’t as much of a standout trait as his brain. His shot from the point is quite good as well and he’s very skilled at getting it through traffic, showing high shot generation numbers everywhere he goes. On defense, he’s small and not that physical. I’ve seen him make stops effectively versus players his age — not at an elite level, but more than passable. Versus men he’s struggled to win battles as a small, slight player.”

You're right, LBR. Kid was ranked top 3-4 to begin the season, so the skill is there. I said and will keep saying I'm ok with the pick until he proves it wrong........ LB, can you post any fancy stats with your evaluation of them on Bovquist?

To add to this if you watch a Karlsson or Letang closely they don't shut people down.

17 years old, can still grow. Also on the show, they mentioned that just this year he's grown an inch and was only a little shy of 6' at the combine.

Not as small on his draft day and a year older, but Letang gained something like 18-20 pounds between 18-19. No idea if that'll happen, but if he could get to Karlsson/Keith weigh of like 191-192, that'll be solid.

Take Merkley if he's there. This regime, was it Stan, took a questionable character player in Beach.

Kaut just went.

Thank you. It's been said Boqvist has the offensive tool kit of any forward in this draft.

I don't think there is anything to get overly excited about. These guys are only draft picks. Any of them are capable of surprising folks either way. Nobody knows for probably a couple of years if this guy will work out, neither the guy drafted in front of him nor the guy drafted behind him. I think we have a very good scouting department and they are most responsible for these picks. I think (hope) the glass is half full this time.

People bagged on the Schmaltz pick...the DeBrincat pick...the Teravainen pick, etc.

I have no idea if the kid will work out or not but the outcry is par for the course.

Some good news

Mark Lazerus

@MarkLazerus

Q also said Jonathan Toews is totally healthy after whatever kept him out down the stretch. Said he's been working out just about every day and is in great shape.

Wheeler of The Athletic has Boqvist ranked 6th, Wahlstrom 5th and Hughes 4th.

6. Adam Boqvist – RHD, Brynas IF, 5-foot-11

By now, I have a pretty good feel for where Boqvist is at in his development and the conclusions I’ve come exist in two parts:

He is unquestionably one of the most talented puck handlers and creators in this class — at forward or defence — off the rush. He’s a brilliant distributor and a fabulous skater who takes a lot of risks and generates a ton offensively as a result.
He’s also still got a long way to go defensively, and that makes him more of a long-term project than a lot of the other high-end defenders in this class, and also more of a risk-reward proposition at the draft. He’s easily pushed around and he’s tentative in his engages, which results in a lot of lost battles.

Still, even if there is bust potential, the former is still worth betting on because there’s huge upside to his game and his first few steps allow him to create separation from forecheckers and exit the defensive zone with ease. He’s also got one of the better shots among the defencemen in the class (both in accuracy and in power, which he generates with technique and a nifty low-kick release rather than pure strength), and isn’t afraid to jump into the high slot to use it.
