If Stan trades up to draft Brady Tkachuk I would give him a figurative high five
- EnzoD

If Tkachuk is committed to Boston college how does he help this year? How can you be sure he'll not pull a Kevin Hayes?

Makes me leery. Go Stan!!!

Hughes isn't really a local kid - he just goes to college there. Born in Florida and lived in Boston for a little bit, but Hughes was raised since he was like 10/11 in Toronto, considers that his hometown, and the Leafs are his favorite team. Nylander lived with his family when he was with the Marlies.

Yes I’ve seen the reference to Orlando but much more to it as you point out. It was interesting in On the Clock part 2 - Hughes was saying to Kane at the Worlds - make sure the Hawks take me - with Kane replying - I’m trying.

Happy draft day everyone!

Live blog will be out later today and we can all play along in the festivities.

A chance a day Hawks fans will look back on in 10 yrs as the rounding out of the Core 2.0? A 40 goal winger, a #1 C, an elite puck moving Dman, two of them like the Ducks' 2003 draft when they got Getzlaf and Perry in rd 1, deep enough draft to do so?

Whatever Bowman does I’m really hoping they don’t trade the #8 pick. I don’t think this group has another run in them unless Keith Toews Saad and Seabrook all have big bounceback years. I think they need to get as much young talent as possible instead of thinking they can tweak the roster and make another run.

How is it "Dumb" when you have no idea of the return?
- PatShart

It is dumb .Q devalued Murph by sitting him out on one of the worst D in the league .And not using him in any consistent or meaningful role . It is Q MO to try and derail any move Stan makes , the proof is very evident . Best move at the Draft would be to fire Q just before it ,and make up for not doing it last year when he had a hissy fit and stormed out ..

Disco Dan comes in as the eventual replacement for Blashill, Detroit will soon find out how frustrating Dan's 'stand there and wait for the pass' system is, just like Buffalo did.

Good PP guy though.

What do you mean by "sitting him out"? Scratching him for 6 games? Poor, poor Murphy.

Maybe he should get some warm milk and cookies in between periods, to make him feel better?

Thank you... This is the issue with keeping Q on board. Murphy can be a fine 3-4 guy if allowed to play his game and used in a way that utilizes his strengths. This is a crucial time/draft for the Hawks. We cannot afford anymore Q bullschit with dumping guys simply due to them being dog-housed. If Murphy goes with the Hossa contract dump then that is a colossal failure. If he goes and an equal value or better D comes back? Fine.

Really not sold on Tkachuk myself .Would rather see the HAWKS Stan Pat with the 8th ,and hope to get Dobson Bouchard or Kotkaniemi .Merkley or Dellandrea would be interesting picks at 27 if either make it that deep

So....regardless of how Murphy played in AZ, and then here...he needs to get top minutes on the team, or hes being screwed. Same with Kempny

Q's failures are not pairing Murphy and Kempny and playing them 25min a game. Since he didnt he screws them over.

Got it.

Bro?! If you cant see what happened with that then we cant help you. Murphy played pretty damn good in the tournament. And all of a sudden Kempny finds a HC who knows the best way to use him. Hmmmmmmm

Thing about moving up inside 9 is there isn't that much perceived daylight between those players. Of course we don't know how all 31 clubs have players valued but it seems after 1 and 2 and inside 9 it's not worth say a 27th to move 2 spots.
- Mr Ricochet

MrR - great point - That’s the danger in this Draft. There is such volativity that other than the top 2 any combination of players could be available at #8 including the player the Hawks rate #1. However, that same volativity could result in the top 3 or 4 Hawks’ favs all being gone. I think any movement will depend on whether the Hawks have a very clear #1 that they like a lot above all others. Say Hughes. Might move to get him. Kelley has said that they feel confident at 8 as they have more than 8 players that they like which means no matter what happens 1 to 7 they will have a player or players they still like at 8. However, today I think we both know anything might happen.

I cant what happened, you're right. Whatever that means.

So...then when the Hawks got Handzus, for instance. Was he "not being used correctly" and getting screwed in SJ, prior to the Hawks getting him and him helping them win the cup? Or was it going to a different team, with a different need and he filled that role with his specific skillset?

Equivalent of Eklund citing a rumor the player is going to go anywhere but where they end up.

I really Don't believe being sat out of any games Heightens Murphy trade value , seeing the state of the HAWKS D last season ..

That rumored package of AA, Duclair, Murphy and Hossa is legit pretty wild.

Really curious what team that was discussed with.

I was thinking that, but no way that gets you Karlsson.

It has to be for like a dude and prospect or future picks or something.

Def just a move to get some money off the books. Clear some cap space and get a jabroni or two back.

Yes...absolutely!

Everybody I have talked to has calmed my anxiety of Dobson not developing to a really good player.

and lots to like left at #27 already.
